Another Quick Trip... Trout Fishing Towne Lake in McKinney

Image
Really nice day! Still have video to edit but did limit out at Towne Lake in McKinney; caught but released five Rainbow Trout that went for an Olive Near Deere using the same setup as we used yesterday at Murphy – Corqs Strike Indicator and a Near Deere set 3 feet below it. Dead drift worked as well as a few short pull retrieves. Short on time but still a fun time… plus Charlie the Maltese Puppy got to see his first… hopefully many more to come, Rainbow Trout! Video still in the works; will post on our YouTube Channel when done. But, for tonight, we are chillin and grillin steaks and winding down this weekend!

Perdenales white bass run

Report on the Perdenales!   Re: Perdenales white bass run [by ingvar3000] sws210, the lake is a bit above pool right now, so all the river structure is under water. I think if you find the spots where the channel is choked down to a narrower width you could do okay. Otherwise the usual advice applies: keep moving until you find something biting. Trout Fishing Texas Pond in Murphy Texas!

Image
Short on time Saturday but lots of action fishing a Texas Pond in Murphy Texas for stocked Rainbow Trout! Forgot the GRHEN we tied the other day but luckily the Olive Near Deere fished under a Corqs Strike Indicator did the trick to catch a limit of trout! Windy day with a slight adjustment in the presentation going from a dead drift to short pulls on the line to get the trout to strike! Fun times….!

1 of 3 Suggested Fishing Flies for Trout GRHEN #flytying

Image
Here is a quick tie of one of the three suggested fishing flies we like to have at the ready in our fly box when fishing for trout. Mixed up the video this time by adding background info, the recipe for the pattern, suggestions for fishing the GRHEN, along with the video of us tying one. This variant uses a bead head and pheasant tail instead of hares ear guard hairs for the the tail of the fishing fly. Do give it a try! Trout Fishing Frisco Commons with TFO 6wt, Micro Fly Rod, and Griffith's Gnats!

Image
Cold temps Saturday morning – February 16, 2019! Decided to go a round at Frisco Commons for some recently stocked Rainbow Trout. Trout derby was held last weekend; was not able to make it. Temps were in the low 30s, had to bundle up well… layered clothing did the trick but still forgot the gloves like last weekend when we fished Rowlett. This round, started fishing a Near Deere but switched to a Griffith’s Gnat when we noticed all the feeding activity was happening on the surface. Like in past Seasons, Frisco seems to have a “hatch” of some really tiny bugs. Trout love them to the point they rarely will strike anything else. Luckily, having learned our lesson we keep several sizes of Griffith’s Gnats in the fly box. Most times a size 16 will work but going up one or down one size is always a good idea in case the trout get picky. Fished from 8:30 to 4:30, caught and released five trout. Lost several others while bringing them in, and had a lot more ...

FW: New Post: Lampasas River Puts Out

News from the river, the Lampasas River! Lampasas River Puts Out [by Jaybonnett] Had an awesome 3 hours on the river yesterday afternoon. It was very muddy putting in and chilly to say the least but, the whites were ready and willing to feed my family. https://youtu.be/bc-XcTIZjZM   Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums

Perdenales white bass run

Report from Pedernales.   Perdenales white bass run [by catchnrelease] My neighbor fished Reimers on Friday. He managed 24 fish from noon to four. He was in his boat and went upstream towards the falls. He was using river minnows that he had previously caught. So I would safely say, that the fish are in there. But catching them is another thing. Time to get the boat ready and get out there. Tight lines all! Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums

Ukulele and Q&A and Near Deere Give Away!

Image
Starting an impromptu live stream for some ukulele fun and fishing Q&A! Plus a Near Deere Give Away with a twist… This round we are giving away two White Near Deere tied on 1/80oz fly jigs and one Marilyn Monroe Tenkara Fly. The extra weight of the 1/80 oz fly jigs helps fishing deeper spots when the trout are lurking deep. And, the white color is what we had the local trout interested in last Saturday when the temps were well below freezing! To win this round… we wrote down a number from 1 to 100 on our whiteboard. First to guess the number and post in the comments either on this video or on our Facebook Page wins the number we wrote down wins! Addendum: One modification to the rules, One entry per day to guess the number. We are located in the US Central timezone. We will provide comments indicating a Win, else will give a hint to the answer at least once a day. That is first to guess the number with a US address wins! Good Luck!

Quick Post - Tips for Fishing for Stocked Trout in Ponds

Here is a post to answer a question posted on Facebook about fishing for stocked trout in ponds. As a general rule, we like to use ultralight spinning gear lined with 4lbs or 6lbs mono when fishing with bait and lures. For baits, we tend to Powerbait, PowerWorms, Corn, Salmon Eggs, and Cheese, and Bread. Always good to have the “bait buffet” ready as trout can get picky at times. For lures, Copper, Silver, and Gold Super Dupers, Rooster Tails, and Mepps Inline Spinners are in our tackle box. For fishing flies and when not using a fly rod, will use a bubble fly rig and fish Near Deere, Wooley Buggers, GRHEN, Prince Nymphs, and Griffiths Gnats. Have other flies at the ready but these tend to get used more often than not. Below are links to articles, blog posts, and YouTube videos that may be of interest for those planning to fish a pond this Season for Trout. Good Luck and Good Fishing! How We Stay Aware of Fishing "Happenings"... #ifishnews

Image
Here is a website – http://www.iFishNews.com we maintain that is more a fishing information and news aggregator than a traditional website or blog. It has fishing info and reports from our area in North Texas and Oklahoma as well as fishing information around the USA and other parts of the world. We started it as a monthly newsetter/newspaper periodical but have since evolved to a more robust platform that allows us to get a “feel” for fishing related things like reports, trends, products, and tips. So far, it has allowed us to spend more time fishing and less time online surfing for what is new out there! Do check it out!

Nice urban carp

Carp report anyone!   Re: Nice urban carp [by J-Moe] Nice job Robert. Those things hit like a freight train. I'm usually fishing with 6 lb. line when I run into them. I believe I've been broken off more times than I have actually caught them. I found a community lake with some monsters in it this summer. I put on 12 lb. test and they still broke me off. Small mouth bass, hybrids and carp are on top of my list for great fighting freshwater fish. Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums

Lake Somerville Report!

Latest from Lake Somerville!   Re: Lake Somerville [by fishytx] I thought about something J-Moe. I wonder if these fish have spawned out and are on their way back towards the lake? I know it's early for this to happen but we had some crazy warm weather and the females have been spawning during the night and early in the mornings. I have had several anglers tell me that they were spawning everywhere in the mornings and I don't get there early enough to see it first hand, but sounds like it was really going on strong. Once those egg sacks are depleted those females have no reason to stay in this creek, it's time to turn around and get back to the lake and chase shad. Cold Round Trout Fishing Rowlett Community Park!

Image
Able to get a round fo trout fishing at Rowlett Community Park Saturday morning. Was a tough go with temps in the 30s and a slow bite. Fished a Near Deere in White, then Pink, and then back to White without success. Added a Berkley Powerworm and started getting strikes but could not hook them. Did see a couple of turtles that may have been the culprits. Was surprising to see them active on a cold day. After several hours found the pattern… a slow swing of the rod to move the Near Deere / Powerworm slowly through the water, had several bites, and then a trout struck and was on briefly before throwing the hook! Kept at it, and managed to finally hook and land two trout. Ended up losing the Powerworm but by then, trout were striking the Near Deere using a “twitchy” retrieve. Although the bite was slow and the temps were cold, still had a great time fishing… even better to have caught and released two to avoid a strike out! PS: Do check back, next Near Deere Give Away is for two...

Fished LLELA and Struck Out But…!

Image
Learned trout were stocked earlier this week at LLELA – Lake Lewisville Ecological Learning Area. Not been to LLELA for awhile, decided to give it a go. Brought the 6wt TFO Flyrod and the Echo Ion 6/7wt lined with the OPST Commando Head, Airflo Superfast Sinking Line, and the Coated Running Line. Great opportunity to fish a river and get an idea how the coated running line would do in the field. Gear did well with effortless and tangle-free casting. Just no fish…at LLELA. Did hear from another fisherman that he had several on the line that morning but missed landing them. Later, did see the same fisherman land one… so there are trout at LLELA. Just not on our hooks… Bummer! Should have got the hint when the morning started out misty and foggy. Luckily, things stayed dry and the fog lifted. Even then, no fish at LLELA. Decided to call it a trip but would stop at a pond on the way home in hopes of catching at least a fish so as not to call the day a bust. Ended up catching two bass...
