Quick Fishing Update... Finally Broke The Streak!

Image
Fished Lavon last Friday and struck out, then Denison Dam last Saturday and struck out, too! Went to Texoma last Sunday, and struck out again! No chance to fish until this Saturday… finally broke the streak by fishing Stoney Hollow Park Pond using the TFO 6wt Fly Rod and Echo Iion 6/7wt reel. OPST Commando Head did well casting into the wind! Managed a Bass, a fingerling Bass, and little Bluegill as well as a nice sized Bluegill. Used a Tube Fly Popper to take the Bass, a Foam Damsel Variant for the fingering Bass, and then a Red Marabou Damsel Fly and a Guadalupana for the Bluegill! Lots of fun! Feel much better having broken the streak!

Stoney Hollow Pond for Bass on the Fly... Tube Fly!

Image
Finished the day job and kicked off the weekend with some pond fishing for bass on the fly. Not sure where we were going to fish; plan was to stop at a pond on the commute home. Several options on the way; ended up fishing Stoney Hollow Pond in Plano. Went with the trusty 6wt TFO Rod, Echo Ion Reel, and OPST Commando Head that we keep handy. Started out fishing the Damsel Fly Variant that worked at Kroger Park the other day. Later, switched to other flies before settling on a Tube Fly… a Tube Popper Fly that we tied several years back. Managed to catch two bass with it then lost the fly to a nice bass that broke off. Thought we lost the fly but was able to recover it, unfortunately, did not have any more treble hooks. Only had fishing flies with the largest hook size being a size 8. After a miss with a small size 12 egg pattern to replace the treble hook, switched to a KDM minnow in size 8. Managed to land one more bass before it got too dark. Kept at it well after dark and guessed we ...

Stoney Hollow Park Pond and the Purple Damsel Fly This Round! #flyfishing

Image
Fished Stoney Hollow Park pond in Plano this morning. Brought the 4 Weight Fly Rod and went with a Purple Damsel Fly in size 10. Varied the retrieve as needed to catch and release 11 Bass and one Bluegill. No pictures or video of the little Bluegill but did get some good video of several Bass. Largest Bass went 15″ in length! Fun times… great to see the Bass are doing well in the pond still!

Struck Out On the Trinity; Did Get a Bass Elsewhere... #flyfishing

Fished the Trinity River this morning in hopes of Trout; no luck with them. But, did see lots of Carp… looked like they were spawning. Sight cast to passing schools and did get one strike but ended throwing the hook soon after. Later, decided to closeout the weekend with a quick trip to Stoney Hollow Park Pond in Plano. Caught a Bass using a Guadalupana and three Bluegill using a Foam Grasshopper. Was able to get video of the Bass; none of the Bluegill!   Struck out #flyfishing the #trinityriver in Fort Worth this morning. Was hoping for Bruiser trout. Did see #carp spawning, even had one on the line briefly!
