DIY Live Underwater Video Feed | GoPro to Phone Rig | Field Test

Image
Finally, I was able to test the DIY GoPro to Phone Rig that would allow me to control my GoPro using my phone as well as allow me to see the live video feed to my phone. Simple rig that used PVC, COAX TV Cable, a metal extension with a GoPro mount to hold the GoPro and another mount to hold the phone. While testing the rig in a bucket the GoPro would stay connected via Wi-Fi as far as 20 feet without the rig. However, in the field, the camera lost the Wi-Fi connection. I needed the DIY GoPro to Phone Rig to stay connected. The rig worked! I could start and stop the recording, turn it off and surprisingly… back on too! I watched the live video feed; no fish but it was a field test more than a fishing trip. And, even stay connected up to 10 plus feet away. I did not have to have the phone touching the cable. Below are links to what I used to build the rig… will host a live stream to detail how I built it.

Go Pro Hero 5 to Phone Underwater Camera Rig

Image
Been itching to get more underwater camera actions shots. Wanted to try a camera setup that uses the Wi-Fi connection to a mobile phone to get live action shots of what is happening underwater. Understood the Wi-Fi connection is lost soon as the Hero 5 goes underwater. The Go Pro will keep recording but you can no longer control the Go Pro with your phone. Found a workaround that uses cable like in Cable TV cable to maintain connectivity when the Go Pro is underwater. Made a rig and planned to field test is soon as the hand heals but while testing the rig my sinking the camera in a bucket, learned the Wi-Fi connection stayed connected. I did not lose connection until I was 20+ feet away from the bucket. Will have to test this in a pond. But, this is promising! Do check back, plan to try testing the connection with and without the rig to see if the Hero 5 stays connected!

Kayak Fishing for Striped Bass #TBT #SHORTS

Image
YouTube Shorts video where I went kayak fishing for Striped Bass in the little Heritage Featherlite Kayak one chilly October morning on Lake Texoma. Was a fun time, caught several Striped Bass with the largest going 6 pounds! See full video at https://youtu.be/H0YPsESUENw

What's lurking below at Texoma... | kayak fishing #shorts

Image
YouTube Shorts video of yours truly kayak fishing for Striped Bass on Lake Texoma – large reservoir that borders Texas and Oklahoma. Putting in at Highpoint Marina on the Texas side, I managed to get a strike or two but never landed a fish. Luckily, I had the old Water Wolf Camera – since lost in the waters of Lake Lavon our local lake! Trolling jigs and crankbaits, several fish had struck the lures. And, this short video, you clearly see in the murkiness a nice sized Gar! Check out more videos Kayak Fishing Lake Texoma: YouTube Playlist Full video of the YouTube Shorts: Struck Out at Texoma

Lower Mountain Fork Before The Flood #shorts

Image
Here is another YouTube Shorts TBT video to Beavers Bend and the Lower Mountain Fork River before the flood changed the river to its present state. It was a fun trip where I fished Spillway Creek, the Cold Hold, the Bluffs, and the Evening Hole. But, as luck would have it, I had lots of action, more like missed strikes at Lost Creek. Sure do miss Lost Creek! Check out the full video at More Fun Fishing the Lower Mountain Fork…! Suggested Fishing Flies – Trout

Fisherman Beware of Turtles!

Image
YouTube Shorts video where I place an underwater camera – WaterWolf Camera, under a float with a hook baited with bread. Soon realize… Turtles can steal a bait quickly! This was several years ago when I still had the camera; I lost it while kayak fishing and never recovered it. Since then I have replaced it with a GoFish Cam. It appears the WaterWolf is no longer available… BUMMER! The location was a pond in Murphy, TX that has a good population of Bass and Catfish that tend to be bigger than other ponds we have fished. This round was a bust though… the Turtles managed to steal my bait without getting hooked. Check out the video and note how the Turtle seems to position the bread to where he can easily remove it from the hook! Camera

TBT Beavers Bend Trout Fishing #shorts

Image
YouTube Shorts video of a TBT to Beavers Bend State Park before the big flood or was it floods that changed the entire river. Lots of brush and greenery with a few Rainbow and Brown Trout caught and released. See the full video at https://youtu.be/8KePd_ZH-ic In the past, designated Blue and Red zones were used to separate sections of the river. The Blue zone allowed bait fishing, non-barbless hooks, and more liberal daily limits compared to the Red Zone. As of 2021, the rules have changed. Strongly suggest checking out Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s eRegulations for the latest update before fishing the area. See the Lower Mountain Fork section of the eRegulations for more info. ( Trou t Area Information ).

Review These Fishing Regulations Before Fishing in Texas and Oklahoma | What's New in 2021?

Image
Decided to review the What’s New in 2021 section of the Texas 2021-2022 Season. Had a question concerning one of the new changes to 2021; contacted Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. They replied within the hour. Nice! Reviewed one new change to the trout regulations in Oklahoma. Was uncertain about the Daily Limits for the Lower Mountain Fork. Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation clarified for me. Had another on related to the Lower Illinois River. Interesting answer… suggest contacting them directly. New Trout Limits for Oklahoma!

Image
Looks like September 11, 2021 the trout limit will be three instead of six for Oklahoma. Previously, the Oklahoma Statewide limit was six which has some area fishermen conflicted in fishing for trout this upcoming trout stocking season. So far, it appears to be two opposing opinions: Those for the three trout daily limit look forward to an increase opportunity to fish for trout as more will be available to Those against the new daily limit explain the time and expense is not worth it when limited to three trout. That said, we anxiously await for the trout stocking season, and will follow the new rules in effect. See more at ODWC’s Website.

Happy Labor Day Weekend | Quick Update from the Team

Image
Fishing updates and related activities from the Team! Had a little ouch that has me slightly out of commission. Should be good to go in a couple of weeks or so. Till then, do check back on our YouTube Channel – COAF Field Team, and this website as we can always talk fishing! In the near future, will go back to working on the DIY Fish Bites Gummy Gum recipe, using the GoFish Cam to get underwater action shots, and the Tenkara rod to catch a fish or two! Also, will keep posting TBT YouTube Shorts to remind us that Trout Stocking Season is just around the corner as well as general fishing tips and suggestions that I find while in my rehabilitation period!

Tenkara Fishing a Small Pond

Image
Out and about this weekend in Oklahoma. Decided to fish a small pond is in Moore or possibly Norman… could be on the border, too! Trip started out slow with fish actively feeding on “bugs” on the surface. Also, noticed lots of turtles seemed to show up suspiciously near my fishing fly. I started fishing the pond’s perimeter using a Foam Grasshopper pattern without success. Then, switched to a Guadalupana fished under a strike indicator. The fish were barely nibbling… more like “pecking like a chicken” at my offering. Once I added the indicator, I was able to detect strikes but it still did not mean a hook-up. After multiple missed strikes, I managed to catch a little Bluegill. The remainder of the trip continued to be a strike or a miss but I did catch a few more Bluegill, Sunfish, and a Bass. The pond looks fairly new, so I anticipate more and bigger fish to come. Will keep this one in my back pocket to fish when I am in the area again. Do check out the video!
