Fly Fishing Stoney Hollow Park #cabelas #cgr #fiberglass #flyrod

Image
Fun times fishing on a TGIF! Fished Stoney Hollow Park working the Foam Spider and Scud for Bluegill! Was a hot day but able to catch a Bluegill or two. Did work the whole pond’s bank; no Bass but did see a couple lurking in the shallows! Click on pictures to see more about Cabela’s CGR Rod/Reel Combo and deals they are offering!

More Fly Fishing Things at Cabelas with the Dallas Fly Fishers!

Image
Stopped at Cabelas in Allen to check out the Fly Tying Class that the Dallas Fly Fishers have been holding every Tuesday for the month of October. This was the last one for the month, then the Dallas Fly Fishers will shift to Fly Tying Demos on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Also, while there tonight, learned the Dallas Fly Fishers will be hosting a TPWD Basic Fly Fishing Class at LLELA – Lake Lewisville Ecological Learning Area, on Saturday October 27, 2018. Should be a fun time for those interested in learning to fly fish! For more details on the event and the Dallas Fly Fishers, see the links below: https://www.llela.org/Home/Components/Calendar/Event/29434/1507 https://www.dallasflyfishers.org/home.html Note: The live feed while at Cabelas had issues; added pictures and past video snippets of fishing trips to LLELA.

Cabelas Shipment Arrived!

Had a gift card that was expiring soon. Got a deal online with a 9′ 5wt Fly Rod, 11′ 8wt Switch Rod, Waders, and a Jacket! Fly Rod went for under $25; Switch Rod went for $60… not a bad deal! Hope to use them this upcoming Trout Season. Did sneak away and try the Switch Rod out. Heavier weight rod made a difference in casting the heavy weight forward fly line. Can cast a “mile” with ease with no back cast courtesy of the Switch Casting technique! Cabelas in Allen - Fly Tying Demo

Image
Been meaning to stop by Cabelas in Allen to see the fly tying demo hosted by the Dallas Fly Fishers. Finally made it this evening! Nice bunch of folks making different fishing flies and providing great advice on fly tying and fishing. Of note was the Hopper Pattern being tied; will need to add this one to the fly box and give it a go on the local Bass this Summer! Do stop by and check it out next time you are at the Cabelas in Allen. The Dallas Fly Fishers host the demo every Wednesday at 6PM and Saturday at 9AM.

Re-Stocked the Tackle Box....

Image
Tackle Box is filled! Stopped by Cabelas after work today to re-stock the tackle box with ultralight lures that we like to use when fishing for Rainbow Trout – specifically, Kastmasters, Roostertails, and Super Dupers. Did not have all the sizes and colors we were looking for but did have the key ones we like to have at the ready when fishing a recently stocked pond! PS: Audio starts after about 15 seconds. Working on getting it corrected on YouTube, still processing as of 8:50 PM Central, 12/15/15.

New Fly Rod to Replace the Broken One!

Image
Broke an Eight Weight Fly Rod yesterday; closed a car door on it. Intended to use it to target the Striped Bass at Denison Dam. Even put a new Fly Reel on it (the Echo Ion Fly Reel mentioned in an earlier post). Made a stop at Cabelas in Allen this afternoon to look for a replacement. Wanted a fast action rod with some backbone. Had narrowed it down to two rods. The Fly Shop Associate suggested another rod that was perfect except it was about $50 more than planned. As it turned out, it was actually discounted. Was able to buy it well below the budgeted price! Back in business… hope to catch a Bruiser with it!

Echo Ion Fly Reel 6/7 Weight....

Image
While picking up some fly tying material at Cabelas this evening, noticed the Echo Ion Fly Reel in the 6/7 Weight model was on sale for $55. Been keeping an eye out for a sale on the reel; wanted to mount it on an 8 Weight Fly Rod that has been gathering dust in the corner. Could not pass up the deal,… next step, go fishing! Cabelas... Rainbow Warrior Fishing Fly

Image
Stopped by Cabelas to pick up some fly tying material. Needed Pink Marabou and Pink GloBug “soemthing fluffy” to make Pink Near Deere and Pink Eggs. Found the Pink Marabou; no Pink GloBug. Did get see some Pink Micro Eggs, so bought it for now. Also, needed other material to make an attempt at tying a Rainbow Warrior Fishing Fly. Did not have the exact material but found what looked like it would work. Tied two for now… hope it look good enough to fool another 20″ Rainbow Trout! Rainbow Warrior Fishing Fly

Always Can Use Another Fishing Rod/Reel...

Image
Hope to wet a line today or tomorrow. For now, since the Team is preparing to shift to warm water fishing, might as well pick up another fishing rod/reel. This one was on sale at Cabelas and came with a rebate, too. It’s an Abu Garcia combo that we plan to use for fishing Senkos.
