Fished Stoney Hollow Park pond in Plano this morning. Brought the 4 Weight Fly Rod and went with a Purple Damsel Fly in size 10. Varied the retrieve as needed to catch and release 11 Bass and one Bluegill. No pictures or video of the little Bluegill but did get some good video of several Bass. Largest Bass went 15″ in length! Fun times… great to see the Bass are doing well in the pond still!

Decided to try another pond that we have not fished for some time. This time went to the pond behind In-N-Out Burger in Allen. It’s formal name is Eagles Nest Catch and Release Pond but we like to call it In-N-Out Pond for ease of reference. Brought the six weight Switch Rod this time, and fished Damsel Flies and a Guadalupana to catch Bass and Bluegill. Would have kept fishing Damsel Flies but lost what we brought with us to snags. Fun time… also, added a short snippet of the ponds along the Village Trail that runs between Allen and Fairview. There are three and all hold fish, just no Bruisers caught by us for some time now. Gear used:  Lamson Liquid 4 Fly Reel ,  Rio Switch InTouch Chucker Line #5 , and Cabelas TLR Switch Rod (11′-4pc-6wt / Model TLR-1106-4)  

Rain was pouring this morning, then we saw a break in the storm. Made the run to Bethany to see what was lurking by the Waterfall. Was working on another online article, hope to post sooner than later. But, when the rain stopped, got sidetracked and grabbed the first rod available – the 6wt Switch Rod that we used yesterday… LOL! In the past, we had good strikes using a Purple Damsel Fly under a strike indicator. Today was no different! Managed three Bass this round before having to cut the trip short… grocery store errand for the significant other. Quickly tied some Damsel Flies to replace the ones lost yesterday. Fished them at Bethany Lakes and managed five Bass! Do watch the hook sets and how we are triggering the set by the movement in the fly line!   Log Book Entry: 3/21/17 Location: Bethany Lakes – Main Pond (Allen) Time: 17:30 – 18:45 Weax: Clear, Short Sleeve, Windy Rod: Redington Classic Trout 5wt – 9′ Reel: Echo Ion 4/5 – 6wt Flyline   Comments: Caught four Bass in 30″-40″ using the Damsel Flies, then bite slowed. Managed one more that struck as the fishing fly was resting on bottom! Also, saw one fisherman bring in a nice Bruiser Bass!   Landed: 5 Bass – 12″-13″ – Purple Damsel Fly – Sz 8      

Bass seemed to have developed lockjaw on the Foam Grasshoppers. Tied three purple Damsel Flies, and then fished Bethany Lakes later in the afternoon… caught three Bass. Would have caught more but lost all three Damsel Flies! Used short pulls of the line, and then a short pause before repeating. Bass tended to hit the fishing fly when we paused between series of short pulls. The last fishing fly off broke off taking the Damsel Fly with it.
