All done… now just need to go fishing. Hoping sooner than later! PS: Lots of rain has our fishing plans on hold but see an opening in the weather this weekend.

Quick Tie - Rainbow Warrior Midge #flytying

Image
Quick Tie demo of the Rainbow Warrior Midge that we used as the trailing fishing fly for a Tandem Rig last Saturday on the Blue River. Trailed behind an Olive Near Deere, the little midge had one trout take but for some reason, when we fished the Olive Near Deere without it trailing, we were not getting bit. Go figure!   Recipe: Red Dacron Tying Thread Size 16 Caddis Hook 2.3mm Silver Tungsten Bead Pheasant Tail Fibers Pearl Mylar or Tinsel White and Pink UV Dubbing Other Items: Peak Tying Vise: https://amzn.to/2NWQjUe 5-Second UV Glue: https://amzn.to/2C79STw   PS: Was the same fishing fly that took a nice 20″ Rainbow Trout at Beavers Bend State Park several years ago on the Lower Mountain Fork River!

Posted a new how to article – Bubble Fly Rigs , that details how the COAF Field Team likes to setup Bubble Fly Rigs when they opt to use spinning gear over fly fishing gear. Works for non-fly fisherman as well as fly fisherman, too! Article describes three rigs that have proven effective for the Team! Still working on adding a ‘How We Fish Bubble Fly Rigs” video.  Do check back; hope to post it once the weather clears and our work schedule permits! Added Near Guads and Foam Grasshoppers to the Flybox! #flytying

Did some fly tying last night and added more Near Guads – a variant of the Near Deere, to the fly box. Goes well with the San Juan Worm Balls and Prince Nymphs without the biots that we fished tandem rigged for trout at TRWD Flyfest last Saturday. This morning, tied more Foam Grasshoppers to replace ones we lost to break offs and snags as well as ones that were taking a beating from the Bass and Bluegill! May need to make a quick trip and do a little fishing now!   #flytying this evening. Added more #nearguad to the #sanjuanworm ball and #princenymphs without the biots to the flybox. Fly Tying This Evening... #flytying

Image
Did a little fly tying this evening. Last round we ran out of Griffith’s Gnat; several days ago made a variant of the PMC Emerger that combined the PMC Emerger and the Griffith’s Gnat. We called it the PMC Griffith’s Gnat Emerger or PMC GNE. This evening tied more of the PMC GNE’s and also more Griffith’s Gnats in size 16 and 18. If all goes well, next round we won’t run out of these fishing flies!
