Fished Murphy City Hall Pond this evening. Was cold but it was great to get a round of fishing in during the work week! Even better that we managed to limit out on Rainbow Trout. Used the Four Weight Fly Rod and the Olive/Brown Near Deere that worked the other day. Change in the retrieve compared to last time; long pulls and allow time for the fishing fly to sink instead of the faster retrieve we used on Sunday. Only fished for about an hour but it was enough time to catch and keep five, catch and release one more, and miss a lot more due to missed hook sets or thrown hooks. That said, looks like more cold temps and snow are in the forecast which may be a good thing to keep us focused on our day jobs! Made it back to Murphy City Hall Pond before the front arrived. Used an Olive/Brown Near Deere, PowerBait, and a Super Duper to limit out! Fishing Buddy hooked up with three on PowerBait, one on a Black Super Duper, and one on an Olive/Brown Near Deere. I took a limit on the fly with an Olive/Brown Near Deere. Saw others hooking up as well! Not sure what they were using but the Trout were biting! Now it's time to bundle up and prepare for the colder temps and freezing conditions.

Fun time in Denison today. Nuclaroche and I fished Waterloo Park Pond. After a lot of missed hook sets to rising trout feeding on little, black bugs, we figured out the pattern - a COAF Griffith's Gnat in Size 16! The Trout started out taking dry flies on a dead drift but as the wind picked up and the insects started "skittering" on the surface more, the Trout were wanting more movement on the dry fly. Fun day, especially being able to catch them on dry flies. Also, had lots of fun casting and catching fish using the COAF Micro Fly Rod !

Was able to find a break in the day for a quick trip to Sonic Pond. Tied several Olive Near Deere to re-stock the fly box; took one on this quick trip for a go at some Bass. Fished for about 30″ and caught and released three Bass. Good to see the Olive Near Deere worked! Really missing the Blue River to fish a few of these Near Deere! Yesterday we fished Sonic Pond with the four weight rod. Today, we fished Bethany Lakes with the four weight. Colder temps has the Winter Pattern in play; managed to catch a few using the same slow and steady retrieve that worked at Sonic Pond. Olive and Pink Near Deere continued to work as well; could not tell which was the preferred color as we lost the Olive one to a snag soon after catching the first fish. No more Olive in the fly box, so we went with Pink. Looked like the fish did not mind the color change!

Tied a couple of Near Deere and took them to Plano East Senior High School for a round of fishing. Was targeting Bass and Catfish; ended this round with Catfish and Bluegill! Caught two Catfish and three Bluegill fishing the Near Deere under a strike indicator. Good to fish with the Fly Rod/Reel again. Been having lots of fun kayak fishing but Trout Season is just around the corner! Fun stuff…. Catfish that went for a Near Deere!    

Happy Fourth of July… started out catching little fish, ended up hooking into to two nice ones… a Catfish and a Bass! Fished Murphy City Hall Pond this morning. Used a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and GRHEN to catch a number of Sunfish and Bluegill. Bite was good; even caught two at the same time on the Tandem Rig. Kept at it and started noticing some nice size Bass were chasing the hooked fish while being reeled in. Twice a Bass took a hooked fish, and twice we fought it before the Bass let go of the Sunfish before it could be landed. Kept on fishing until a nice size Catfish took the Nymph. After a good fight on the four weight rod, was able to land it. While unhooking it, noticed it had a Khale Hook in the side of its mouth. Looked like someone hooked it but it got away when the line broke. Taking advantage of the situation, quickly caught a Sunfish on the GRHEN, tied on the Khale Hook, and baited up with the Sunfish. In a short while, a Bass took it and put up a nice fight… went about ...

Nice weather and more daylight to fish after work. So, best thing to do is go fishing. Headed to Bethany Lakes with the Four Weight Fly Rod and an Olive Near Deere. Fished for about an hour. Was able to catch 10 Bass or so. May have missed the count +/- 1 but did not miscount the lost fish. Had two throw the hook, and a nice one that broke off. Still a great time; even better knowing the Olive Near Deere – same one that we used in Prosper for Rainbow Trout, works for Bass too!

Worked on the Micro Fly Rod for a little, and then headed to Murphy City Hall Pond when it looked like the rain was slowing down. Rod handle now has the reel seat and the hook keeper is in place. Next step is to wrap the rod guides. Was going to do work on them today as well but when the rain slowed, decided to throw on rain gear and head for Murphy City Hall Pond. Slower bite this round compared to other days. Tried an Olive Near Deere, Tandem Rig with a Soft Hackle, Tandem Rig with a GRHEN, and with a Strike Indicator. No luck with them. Went back to the Olive/Brown Near Deere, used a 10-12 count before beginning the retrieve, then used long pulls with a 4-6 count wait between pulls. Limited out with five but had one break off, lost two others to missed hook sets, and caught two Bluegill… Fun stuff! Reel Seat and Hook Keeper in place!

Made it to Murphy City Hall Pond for another go at Trout. Caught four and missed four more but still was good to get out for another round of fishing this week! Used a Tandem Rig – Olive/Brown Near Deere and a Soft Hackle. One Trout went for the Near Deere, remainder went for the Soft Hackle. Fun stuff! Made it to Murphy City Hall Pond today. Arrived just as the Trout Derby was winding down. Looked like a lot of folks hooked up with the Rainbow Trout. Gave it a try starting out with a Tandem Rig – Olive/White Near Deere and a GRHEN. After a few missed strikes, found my “mojo” and began hooking up consistently. Even did some catch and release with strikes on a Tandem Rig – Olive Near Deere and Soft Hackle, Olive Near Deere, BH GRHEN, and an Olive/Brown Near Deere. Overall, the Trout seemed to be striking at everything thrown at them. But, would say the Olive/Brown Near Deere seemed to get the most bites this time. Fun stuff… even broke out the Micro Fly Rod and caught a few with it. Plus, caught a Golden Trout that went for a Near Deere!
