Super Dupers and Bubble Fly Rigs at Bethany Lakes [12-22-2014]

Image
Originally published 12-22-2014. Bethany Lakes Fishing Report We received another report from Bethany Lakes from Glenn who noted the bite was mixed. Some fishermen were doing well catching their limit, while others were striking out. What worked this round: Silver Super Dupers worked well today Gold Super Dupers were also getting struck Sight casting to boils as well as a steady retrieve of the Super Duper helped get strikes As the bite slowed, switching to fishing flies helped A Bubble Fly Rig also helped in getting the distance needed to reach active fish feeding on the surface Below is a short video showing one fisherman bringing in a Trout using a Bubble Fly Rig! Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | Which Technique Works Best?

Image
Had some fun this past weekend fishing for Texas Rainbow Trout at Pottsboro Lake in Pottsboro, TX. Brought the @GoFish Cam to get some underwater video; able to capture some of the action. But, was sidetracked on a quest… Which technique works best for trout? We tried the “Cranky, No Yanky” technique that calls for keeping a tight line and reeling faster when the trout strikes. This one worked the best; no need to use the rod to set the hook, just reel faster. And, we tried the “Rip Thy Lips” technique… this was not the preferred method for limiting out. This technique calls for setting the hook immediately and with a strong pull of the rod at any indication of a strike. Was a fun time; windy conditions… but we limited out. Do check out the video; added underwater footage of the trout moving about at the end of the video.

More TBT time... Don't forget Trout Stockings at Turner Falls!

Image
Another fun trip to beat the heat; this one is a TBT to Turner Falls Park in Davis, OK. The OPST Commando Head made for ease of casting by the Waterfall using an “air anchor” to avoid the metal railing along the walkway. See full video at: https://youtu.be/n-vkX-REKkc

Trout Fishing at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center #flyfishing

Image
Made it to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) in Athens, TX for a go at the trout stocked recently! Was an interesting round; the trout wanted “green” fishing flies and lures fished fast. Tried various fishing flies and different retrieves before settling on a short pull, steady retrieve. Did miss a number of strikes as well as lost a few when they threw the barbless hook. That said, did limit out plus has a great time exploring the Center. Do check out the video, and do stay till the end for the bonus. PS: Was not certain if a fishing license was required. Later, confirmed with the TFFC that fishing is included in the price of admission… no fishing license needed!

Fun with Spreadsheets... TPWD 2019-2020 Trout Stocking Schedule #troutfishing

Fun with Spreadsheets 2019… Texas Parks and Wildlife Trout Stocking Schedule is posted on their website – TPWD . For ease of reference, modified the data to sort by date and to breakout stockings and counts to show estimated counts for a given stocking. Example: Place A is stocked two times this season. It is scheduled to receive a total of 100 trout for the season.  Estimate 50 trout to be stocked each time. Also, do note the following… 1. For the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, the date is not exact. Per the schedule posted, Athens is to receive various trout stockings in December, January, and February. 2. For Pottsboro Lake’s trout stocking scheduled for 12/11/2020. Suggest contacting TPWD to confirm the date. Date looks suspect as it carries over to 2020-2021’s schedule. 3. For Pena Colorado’s trout stocking scheduled for 12/18/2020. Suggest contacting TPWD to confirm the date. Date looks suspect as it carries over to 2020-2021...

Trout Fishing Texas Pond in Murphy Texas!

Short on time Saturday but lots of action fishing a Texas Pond in Murphy Texas for stocked Rainbow Trout! Forgot the GRHEN we tied the other day but luckily the Olive Near Deere fished under a Corqs Strike Indicator did the trick to catch a limit of trout! Windy day with a slight adjustment in the presentation going from a dead drift to short pulls on the line to get the trout to strike! Fun times….!

Trout Fishing Monday Beats the Work Week Blues at Bethany! #troutfishing

Image
Rainy day today but did some catch up work to include video editing yesterday’s fishing action at Bethany Lakes yesterday. Caught them on Silver Kastmasters and various fishing flies… did notice the GRHEN was the more consistent fish-getter this round! Did a little casting practice with the Switch Rod, mainly used it one-handed which was more than enough to reach out to the passing schools in the pond! Fun stuff!

Limited Out at Bethany Again Today...! #troutfishing

Made it to Bethany Lakes shortly after Noon today. Fished for about two hours and limited out. Caught three using a silver Kastmaster on a fast retrieve like we used the other day. Yesterday used Kastmaster in the 1/12oz size but lost them to snags. Picked up two more from Walmart but in the 1/8oz size. Used them today with no issue. After catching three, went to the Switch Rod and tried various fishing flies; kept changing flies until a consistent pattern was found. Results were… White Near Deere took one with several missed hooksets and one lost while lifting it up the high bank Prince Nymph took one and more missed hooksets Muddler Minnow had several takes but none landed GRHEN had three landed and numerous missed hooksets Overall, GRHEN was the consistent pattern! Later, decided to mix it up and grill today’s catch instead of frying them. Used a recipe posted online. Tasty meal!   #troutfishing today geta a limit using #kastmasters and #fishingflies …now #chil...
