Bottom bouncing slab and jig rigs set up Sabiki style, managed four fish – a Shad, a Crappie, a Channel Catfish, and a Yellow Bass. Kept the Crappie and Catfish and prepared them for the Catch and Cook by filleting them, seasoning with Garlic Salt, Season Salt, and Black Pepper. After marinating for a couple hours, added a sprinkling of Seasoned Pepper, and then melted butter in oil. Cooked the fillets for 5 to 10 minutes each side, and then served them with Fried Rice and Squash. Tasty!

Denison Dam Fishing | Catch and Cook Striped Bass | #flyfishing #stripedbass #catchandcook

Image
More fun fishing Denison Dam last Saturday for Striped Bass! Bite was slower than the weekend before but was able to catch a few; ended up keeping three Striped Bass for the Catch and Cook. Brought the Cabelas TLR 6wt Switch Rod with the Echo Ion 6/7 Wt Fly Reel again. And correcting from our last video, the fly line was a Rio InTouch Chucker with integrated running line. Stripers were hitting mainly striking on the Bennet’s Lunch and Craft Fur Clouser Minnows this round. Did catch a couple of White Bass as well, and found an anchor! Overall was a fun time! For ease of reference, here are key places to skip to in the video: Catch Section – 2:41 Cook Section – 9:17 Cleaning – 9:17 Seasoning – 12:52 Cooking – 15:37 Simple Recipe: Clean, scale, and remove head and fins Season liberally with Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, and Paprika Pan fry on high heat for 5-10 minutes each side Do give it a try! Catch and Cook Blackened Catfish Anyone?

Image
Mixing things up with the catch and cook recipes. This time going to cook the Catfish we caught Sunday at the local lake using a Blackened Fish Recipe. Recipe calls for the following: 1 Tablespoon of Lemon Pepper 1 Tablespoon of Garlic Powder 1 Teaspoon of Black Pepper 1 Teaspoon of Red Pepper (or less if you want less spicy) Salt to taste as desired, suggest less than a Teaspoon possibly 1/2 Pan fry preferably in a cast iron skillet using a 1/4 stick of butter and olive oil. Cook 1″ to 2″ for thin fillets, 3″ to 4″ minutes for thicker fillets on high heat. Fillets are done when white and flaky. Cook in 1″ increments each side if fillet does not flake with a fork. Do try it out first chance you get… it’s tasty!

Catch and Cook Pan Fried Habanero Trout

Image
Throw back Wednesday to celebrate “Hump Day” and get us through the midweek blues… how about a catch and cook of trout we caught last season? Froze the trout in ice, and they stayed as fresh as the day we caught them last Winter. Used a Rubber Legged Near Deere to get them to strike! For cooking, decided to try a new recipe – Pan Fried Habanero Trout! Ingredients: Salt Pepper Garlic Powder Chopped Habanero (with or without the seeds, proceed with caution) Stocker Sized Rainbow Trout fillets Directions: Season fillets with salt, pepper, and garlic powder Sprinkle chopped Habanero over fillets Let sit in the refrigerator for two hours or more Pan fry in oil on high heat for two minutes each side. Three minutes if crunchy fillets are desired

Catch and Cook Denison Dam Striped Bass #denisondam #stripedbass #recipe

Image
Had a fun time at Denison Dam – tailrace to Texoma, on Saturday June 20! Opted for live bait of Bluegill and Sunfish to try for Striped Bass and Catfish. Turned out only one Striped Bass. It was a nice one that went 19″ in length. Went for a 3″ Bluegill. Did a few more bites but nothing solid. Go to bait for others that were limiting out on small “schoolies” was frozen shad, shrimp, and chicken livers. Next round, will make it a point to bring bait and not go all in on live bait. That said, the Okuma 12′ MH Rockaway Surf Rod and Pflueger Spinning Reel worked well… can cast far with minimal effort. A much lighter combo compared to the 10′ Rodmaster and Penn Battle II 6000. Given only one fish this round, posted a catch and cook showing how we clean and prep and then cook a striped bass. For its size, we opted to steak the striped bass and skillet fry it… tasty! Ingredients: Soy Sauce Tuna Fish Sauce Ginger Garlic Fry 4″ to 5″ each sid...

Fishing Ponds and Cooking a Tilapia #chillin #fishing

Image
Fished Celebration Park East Pond. Water was low and the bite was not on. Tried freelining a bread ball on the EmmRod Kayak King Rod. No luck. Went to Bethany Lakes and fished the Wapsi Bream Getter on the 4wt Redington Fly Rod. Caught Bass and a Bluegill. Since no keepers this round, fried a Tilapia that we picked up at the store. Cooked golden brown and topped with an Egg and Salsa mix… tasty, tasty, tasty! Charlie had to put his two cents in… bunnies were invading the backyard. Good thing he keeps a vigilant watch, protecting our domicile from those vicious creatures! It’s all good, especially with a sip or two of Samuel Adam’s Oktoberfest beer!

Cooking Yellow Bass anyone... bones? Forget About It! #cooking #kayakfishing

Image
Cooking Yellow Bass #cooking #kayakfishing Here is a brief video on how we cooked the Yellow Bass we caught kayak fishing the other day. Easy method when dealing with small fish… Step 1. Scale the fish Step 2. Butterfly the fish by splitting from the backbone Step 3. Clean and rinse the fish, removing guts and gills Step 4. Soak in a Vinegar, Water, Garlic, Pepper, and Salt brine overnight Step 5. Deep fry for about 5 minutes on high heat That’s all! PS: Worried about the bones, no worries… other than the large spine, little bones can be eaten as is!

Catch And Cook Striped Bass and Rainbow Trout #recipe

Image
Been getting sidetracked for some time since we fished the Lower Illinois River in Oklahoma last year. Been wanting to post the catch and cook video of the brunch we had following the trip. We caught a Striped Bass and two Rainbow Trout we kept for the table. Did get other fish but released them instead. That said, do check out the catch and cook video; and do keep in mind for those who may catch a bruiser trout this weekend at TRWD Flyfest 2019!

Pan Fried Trout Steaks and "Buttery Nipple Cocktails" #coaffieldteam

Image
Here is another way the Team likes to cook trout. This one calls for steaking the trout instead of filleting it. The trout was a rainbow trout caught the day after TRWD Flyfest 2018. It went 16″ in size and made for some nice steaks that cooked nicely pan fried in olive oil and seasoned with “Slap Ya Mama” Seasoning, Garlic Powder, and Red Pepper Flakes. We cooked one set for 8″ on one side, and then flipped them over and cooked for another 5″. Another set was cooked fro 5″ on both sides. In addition, we made a simple dipping sauce of Kikkoman Soy Sauce and Lemon, and served with Rice Pilaf and Season Green Beans. While cooking… yours truly enjoyed a tasty “buttery nipple cocktail” made with 99 Proof Butterscotch Schnapps and Amarula Liqueur. It’s a variant of the standard cocktail that carries a stronger punch… given the 99 proof of the Butterscotch! Overall, tasty and simple and quick to cook… do try Pan Fried Tro...

Quick Update - March 27, 2018 #coaffieldteam

Image
Slight rain delay in fishing but did note the OPST Commando Head demo is gaining interest from viewers! Liking the one-handed spey technique! Also, the broiled trout recipe is doing well… working another one… Pan Fried Trout with a little fortified buttery nipple cocktails to have while cooking! Hope to have it posted soon!

Catch N' Cook Trout! #troutfishing #waterwolfcamera #catchandcook

Image
Action Saturday, January 6 where we fished Waterloo Park in Denison,TX to catch trout for a Catch N’ Cook video requested by one of our Readers. Key bait was Corn. ower Bait worked but the trout really bit on the corn.  Also, caught a couple on the fly using the Micro Flyrod and a Guadalupana! Do check out our Catch and Cook video on our Channel! We clean and cook stocker sized trout by either cutting their heads and gutting them or removing their gills and then gutting them. Cooking them is simple… sprinkle the trout with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Let marinate in the the fridge for about an hour or two, and then pan fry in a cast iron skillet. When done, apply Season Salt to taste, and then “fillet” them with a fork after they are cooked. Simple recipe! Trout at Waterloo for Catch N’ Cook Preps…   Trout Catch N’ Cook Trout…
