Gone Fishin'... "slack line" technique #waterlooparkpond #denison

Image
Cold and windy Sunday – Christmas Eve… what did we do? Went fishing for trout at Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. Tried catching them with our fly rods but no go, trout were not taking fishing flies or lures. They did not want corn or salmon eggs. The key today was Power Bait – Rainbow Glitter Dough Bait and Pink Trout Nuggets, fished using either a Carolina Rig or the simple split shot and hook rig we use when our hands are cold. (for more on the rigs we use, see our article, “ Power Bait Fishing Rigs for Rainbow Trout “. Temps were in the 30s and climbed up to low 40s but the wind was killer and we did not bring gloves. In short order, we went to the “don’t hold the rod because we need to keep our hands in our pocket slack line technique”. Three of us fished, three of us limited out… one limited in 30″, yours truly limited in an hour, and the last one limited out in an hour and a half. Overall, had a great time on a cold and wi...

Made it back to the Lower Illinois River Saturday morning for another round with the trout. Managed to catch two using fishing flies, else it was chartreuse Power Bait Trout Worms. Two of us fished; two of us limited out! Great time on a really nice day. Glad to have spent it fishing for trout on a river! PS: Shout out to Donavan; best place to meet a Facebook friend for the first time – on a river fishing!     Log Book Entry: 4/01/17 Location: Lower Illinois River (Gore, OK) Time: 09:30 – 14:00 Weax: Sunny, Long Sleeve but later Short Sleeve, Windy Rod: Redington Classic Trout 5wt – 9′ Reel: Echo Ion 4/5 – 6wt Flyline Comments: Trout were actively feeding but had a hard time catching them with fishing flies. Did get two to take a Near Guad. One struck while recasting it in a run downriver from the Waterfall. The other struck a Near Guad drifted in the fast water by the Waterfall; used a strike indicator and set it three feet from the fishing fly. Fishing bud...

COAF Field Team Vlog #25 - PBRG Size 14 To Get a Limit! #troutfishing

Image
PBRG in Size 14 Made it to Heritage Park – one of the three ponds in Flower Mound that were stocked with trout. Rain let up, so had to make the run down the Tollway for a go at Rainbow Trout. New place… so new that Google Maps does not show the pond. It looks like it is still being built. Regardless, there is a pond, and it was stocked with trout. It’s a small pond that may be the same size as the pond at Waterloo in Denison. Water was murky, and there was a hatch going on. Even saw a few risers go for them. For us, no luck with fishing flies. Had to resort to a PBRG in Size 14 to make a limit today. “PBRG” is Power Bait Rainbow Glitter molded on a size 14 hook. We usually keep a jar in our fishing vest for times like today when the trout wanted bait instead of fishing flies. Overall, the bite was steady with lots of folks getting bit. Power Bait and Corn seemed to be working; did see several taken with fishing flies but could not tell if anyone had strikes...
