Kayak Fishing Canyon Lake - Tough Day and Hot Temps, Too

Image
First time kayak fishing Canyon Lake. Water   was crystal clear and weather was sunny and hot. Only caught two litle fish but did get a good workout in! Did see some Baby Buzzards feeding on a dead carp. May have been a sign to try fishing another time. LOL!

Caught Few Catfish | Kayak Fishing #shorts

Yesterday, we struck out at Denison Dam but mentioned kayak fishing and juglining as a backup plan. Did well… with Catfish caught. Dinner Shrimp Etouffee over rice and Blackened Catfish! Tasty! Will get a trip video out later this week; do check back!

Are Your Juglines Legal in Texas? #shorts

Image
Making preparations for kayak fishing and juglining. Had to fix my juglines to make them legal in Texas. Rules require juglines to be at least 3″ wide and 6″ long. Good to go now! While at it, replaced the Name and Address Label with a Customer ID Label. Liking it much better than the old rules!

Closed Out 2021 Kayak Fishing Lake Texoma | One Striper, Two Carp or Buffalo? | GoFish CAM

Image
Warm temps had us setting out the kayaks for a go at the Striped Bass at Lake Texoma. Our Texoma Licences were good till 12/31/21 and the Annual COE Permit was good to go till August 2022. Foggy trip up the road from Allen but things cleared and we put in at East Burns Run with the plan to dead drift flukes and shad for the Striped Bass. Water was chilly, wind was not too bad at all, and waves were not an issue. The only issue we had were no Stripers. Not wanting to closeout 2021 on a strikeout headed to Denison Dam to fish the tailrace. Fishing Buddy hooked up with one Striped Bass and yours truly although did not catch a fish, did get some video footage of what was lurking below. What a difference a day makes,… or in this case months. Earlier in the year, we fished Denison Dam and put in the GoFish Cam. There were fish everywhere… this round, saw two fish only – looked like Carp or Buffalo. Here’s to 2022 and more fishing fun and more “Learn to Fish by our Trials and...

What's lurking below at Texoma... | kayak fishing #shorts

Image
YouTube Shorts video of yours truly kayak fishing for Striped Bass on Lake Texoma – large reservoir that borders Texas and Oklahoma. Putting in at Highpoint Marina on the Texas side, I managed to get a strike or two but never landed a fish. Luckily, I had the old Water Wolf Camera – since lost in the waters of Lake Lavon our local lake! Trolling jigs and crankbaits, several fish had struck the lures. And, this short video, you clearly see in the murkiness a nice sized Gar! Check out more videos Kayak Fishing Lake Texoma: YouTube Playlist Full video of the YouTube Shorts: Struck Out at Texoma

YouTube Shorts | Kayak Fishing | Juglining for Catfish

Image
YouTube Shorts video on a fun trip fishing for catfish using homemade diy juglines while out in the kayak on the local lake! Caught a big one that I had to land on shore… no net and windy conditions. Better to take it to the boat ramp. Add it to the COAF Shorts playlist – click to see more.

Lake Lavon Fishing - Kayaking and Juglining Gets Kayak PB! #kayakfishing #juglining #catfish

Image
Fun time juglining and kayak fishing Lake Lavon Saturday. Even caught a personal best Blue Catfish from a kayak… went 30 plus inches! Did catch a bigger one several years ago on Lake Lavon but that was in a jon boat and with a fishing buddy. This one was caught and landed by yours truly! Lots of fun… had to make a run to shore to land it. Lots of winds and waves and no net; did not want to risk losing it trying to land it in the kayak. Longer than normal video… includes details on the kayak jug lines used and setting up the first group of three jug lines. In keeping with the COAF Field Team’s motto… “Learn to fish by our trials and errors”

Kayak Fishing Lavon - Backpaddling Keeps Working! #kayaking #kayakfishing #lakelavon

Image
Here is the follow-on video of yesterday’s kayak fishig trip to Lake Lavon. Bought new kayak fishing sandals from the Columbia Allen Outlet Store to replace the ones that “blew a flat” last year. Had to give them a “test drive” and take them fishing. Decided on putting in at Lavonia South Ramp. Lots of boats and jet skis but did manage to catch a nice Catfish, several Yellow Bass, and a Crappie. All caught bottom bouncing a Slab and Jig Rig by backpaddling the kayak along a drop off near the boat ramp. Fun stuff… do stay tune for more videos and be on the lookout for the new kayak fishing sandals, our footwear of choice in the Summer!

Our Favorite Kayak Fishing Sandals - Columbia Ridgeway! #kayaking #columbia #kayakfishing

Image
Been missing the kayaking sandals but finally found the replacement pair – Columbia’s Ridgeway! Water shoes were not cutting it; this will be our fourth pair of Columbia Sandals – First two were Santiams (I think), third one was the Riptide, and this one is a Ridgeway. Columbia is our favorite for fishing shirts and kayaking sandals…. will see how the Ridgeway works out this season and on! In the past, the sandals stay secure, can get wet but not slippery, and makes a cool tan line when you take them off! Do stay tuned for more kayak fishing videos… and be on the lookout for the Kayak Fishing Sandals!

Kayak Fishing Lavon - Back Paddling Technique Gets One

Image
Made it to Lavon for a chance at an evening round of kayak fishing the point at Brockdale Park. Another hot day but luckily not too hot to stop us from fishing! Arrived at the boat ramp with only one other boat at the park. Quick launch and was on the lake trolling shortly after. Fished a couple of hours without a strike, then shifted to the back paddling technique where we paddle the kayak backwards, and let the slab and jig rig bounce bottom. Managed to avoid a strikeout by getting one Yellow Bass. No worries… best thing about kayak fishing, can always get a workout in at least! Posted video of the trip, and then added past video from a trip last year that shows more details on the back paddling technique. Do check it out!

Kayak Fishing at Lavon... #shad #kayaking

Image
Short notice quick trip to Lake Lavon at Highland Park for a chance at catching a fish or two kayaking one of of the points. Windy conditions and some waves to deal with, else no issues other than no fish on our hooks. After fishing a double rig using shad for bait, switched to trolling a slab and jig rig. Neither had a bite, so headed back to the boat ramp. Good thing we were able to catch some Shad else the trip would have been a strikeout! No worries, one of the reasons why we like kayak fishing… if no fish, can at least get workout in!

Kayaking the Guadalupe #fishing #kayak #pelicankayaks

Image
Had a fun Friday on the Guadalupe River kayaking and fishing. Water flow was slow; mainly paddled upstream and observed the “tube hatch” as we kayaked to the 3rd Crossing. Did catch a couple of Bluegill and a little Bass. Caught one using a Kastmaster with its hooks removed and a trailing scud. Caught the other two using a Roostertail. Although the fishing was slow, gotta a good workout in paddling upriver and downriver! Happy 4th of July!

Kayak Fishing with the Lowrance Hook 3x DSI #kayakfishing

Image
Had a great time kayak fishing Saturday. Brought the Lowrance Hook 3x DSI depth finder to locate bait fish, structure, and changes in depth! Was the key to hooking up with White Bass, Yellow Bass, Crappie, and Catfish. Back Paddling to bounce the slab and jig rig worked as well as casting to passing schools. Sure hope to do more in the upcoming weeks

Kayak Fishing - Using the Back Paddling Technique to Catch More Fish #howto #kayakfishing

Image
Normally we troll Slab and Jig Rigs when kayak fishing. Works well for fish holding in the upper water column. But, when fish are holding deep, near bottom… what to do, what to do. We try the Back Paddling Technique! This round in keeping with our motto, “Learn to Fish by our Trial and Errors”…. Watch how we use a technique that we discovered by accident. And, do stay till end for the Bonus! Back Paddling allows the bounce and twitch of the slab and jig rig we are using It’s fished near bottom where the fish are holding… will cast and try jigging once it hits bottom. Then… back paddle, keeping sight of the rod. When done right… rod twitches. When snagged or bit… rod bends hard. If snagged, paddle toward it and will come loose. If bit, reel the fish in! Do see the full length video of Sunday’s Trip! Lot’s of “learn to fish by our trials and errors” action to watch. Plus, watch how we change our fishing tactics as conditions change!
