Out and about this weekend in Oklahoma. Decided to fish a small pond is in Moore or possibly Norman… could be on the border, too! Trip started out slow with fish actively feeding on “bugs” on the surface. Also, noticed lots of turtles seemed to show up suspiciously near my fishing fly. I started fishing the pond’s perimeter using a Foam Grasshopper pattern without success. Then, switched to a Guadalupana fished under a strike indicator. The fish were barely nibbling… more like “pecking like a chicken” at my offering. Once I added the indicator, I was able to detect strikes but it still did not mean a hook-up. After multiple missed strikes, I managed to catch a little Bluegill. The remainder of the trip continued to be a strike or a miss but I did catch a few more Bluegill, Sunfish, and a Bass. The pond looks fairly new, so I anticipate more and bigger fish to come. Will keep this one in my back pocket to fish when I am in the area again. Do ch...

Fun time fishing the Dog Park Pond in Norman, OK while out and about this weekend. Bass were in there beds, and the pond was clobbered making it hard to catch them with the BFS fishing lures. Did get one on a Rapala Husky Jerk and another with the Denison Dan Dawber! Fun stuff!

Alrighty, fun time out and about this past Saturday at Medicine Park. Although we struck out on trout, did enjoy a great time outdoors before the temps started dropping below freezing. Even tried the World Famous Meers Burger and their Chicken Fried Steak… tasty meal! Today, as temps hover below freezing, decided to test the livestream on YouTube. So far, it has been a hit or miss affair for us. Today, we edge a little closer to success. Going with the topic, “Three Places to Fish for Rainbow Trout in Oklahoma” the session went well despite a few hiccups. Last weekend we made the run across the border from Texas to Oklahoma. Friday we hung out in Norman and had dinner at Torchy’s Tacos for tasty tacos and margaritas. Later, we stopped at the Guitar Center Store to checkout the ukuleles – big sale going on until 31 October on guitars and ukuleles. Always had a weakness for stringed “things” like fishing rods and reels, guitars and ukuleles, etc! Ended Friday, “chillin” on the sofa while watching several seasons of “Always Sunny in Philadelphia” in preparation for a round of fishing on the Lower Illinois River the next day. Saturday morning we headed west from Oklahoma City to Gore, Oklahoma to fish the Lower Illinois River – specifically, the tail race section below Lake Tenkiller. It was a nice day with temps in the 50s to 60s; because we prefer to stay dry when the temps are below the 70s, we opted for waders instead wet wading like we do in the summer. Fished Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma Saturday; did a little looking around and captured video of some of the changes that have occurred due to the flood damage earlier this year. Evening Hole, Cold Hole, and Spillway Creek are much different than when we were here last year. Also, Lost Creek is definitely lost with minimal water flow and lots of debris to clobber the area. Word is that it will not be rebuilt. Regardless, the new areas are definitely fish-able! Managed to catch two nice Rainbow Trout! Picture posted below is one of the two. It went 18″ in size! Must plan on another trip before year end. PS: Still working on the fishing video from Saturday; hope to have it posted in the near future!
