Fun with Spreadsheets | Texas Parks and Wildlife Winter Trout Stocking Schedule for 2020-2021

Another Winter trout stocking season is fast approaching! Like in past seasons, yours truly modified the schedule posted by TPWD to sort by Stocking Date and the count of trout stockings planned for a location and its estimated trout to be stocked. Makes for ease of reference by allowing Readers to quickly see when the next trout stocking is planned. As changes are unexpected for various reasons like weather, do check for updates, changes, and corrections at TPWD’s website – 2020-2021 TPWD Trout Stocking Schedule. Spreadsheet Time Again... 2018-2019 TPWD Trout Stocking Schedule dated as of 11/4/2018

Image
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department posted the 2018-2019 Trout Stocking Schedule. Did some tweaking to the info and sorted by date and location, like last year – broke out number of stockings an an estimated “Total per Stocking” for a location and stocking event, and then posted the info below in pdf and included the links to TWPD’s directions if available for a location at the end of the schedule. Did notice two dates appear for December 2019; anticipate a typo error.     As a general rule, would check with TPWD before making a trip as well as check the  2018-2019 Trout Stocking Schedule  as the site is updated periodically during the season when schedule changes due to weather and other unexpected events happen. Looks like the first round happens latter part of November… woohoo! ( Link to PDF File ) Also, do see our article, “Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing – Community Lakes and Ponds ” for some items that may be of interest for th...

Spreadsheets and the Texas Winter Trout Stocking Season Schedule... #troutfishing

Another Texas Winter Trout Stocking Season is almost here. Texas Parks and Wildlife posted the stocking schedule, and as in past years, we like to play around with spreadsheets for easier reference. Last year, we used OpenOffice’s applications to modify the schedule; this year we dusted of the old laptop and modified the schedule using an older version of Microsoft Office. Taking the Winter Trout Stocking Schedule posted on 11/8/2017, we collated the Stocking Dates, added Total per Stocking and Number of Stockings for a given location, and then sorted the dates in ascending order. By doing so, it gives us a better idea of the next planned trout stocking. Although the dates change as the season progresses, some Readers have taken screen shots, printed them, and then made pen and ink updates… PDF Link We do hope this helps Readers again as in past years! PS: The Guadalupe River is represented as Canyon Tailrace and the last stocking location highlighted in yellow is suspect; the date ind...

Happy Thanksgiving! Did It Again... More Fun with Spreadsheets! #troutstockingschedule

The Field Team would like to wish our Readers a Happy Thanksgiving! Although we have not fished since this past weekend, we are enjoying the time off from work. We even found time to learn a few things with OpenOffice Base and Calc – the open source equivalent to Microsoft Office Access and Excel. Last year, we used Microsoft’s applications to modify the Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Winter Trout Stocking Schedule. This year, we used OpenOffice’s applications. We purchased a new computer and opted not to purchase Office 365. Taking the Winter Trout Stocking Schedule posted on 11/21/2016, we collated the Stocking Dates, added a Total per Stocking, and added a Number of Stockings for a given location, and then we sorted the dates in ascending order. By doing so, it gives us a better idea of the next planned trout stocking.  Although the dates change as the season progresses, some Readers have taken screen shots, printed them, and then made pen and ink updates… P...
