Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | What Worked This Round - Power Worms Crankie, No Yankie!

Image
Made the run to Pottsboro Lake in Grayson County Saturday morning for some Texas Rainbow Trout fishing. Recently stocked with trout, the Team brought fly fishing gear, ultralight spinning gear, and a GoFish Cam to fish the pond. The morning started out with lots of surface activity similar to the trout feeding on a “bug hatch” at our local pond in Allen – Bethany Lakes. In short order, had strikes on the fly using the Generic Black Dry Fly Midge fished with a slow retrieve Our fishing buddy was getting strikes on PowerBait but once he found the pattern – a Power Worm fished with a slow retrieve or a stop and go retrieve, he was able to limit out in short order. Yours truly soon switched to a Power Worm but kept losing the trout when I would set the hook with the rod… I was yanking the worm out of the trout’s mouth. Luckily, after several more misses, I started to hook-up consistently when I kept reeling or cranking the reel to set the hook. The lesso...

Blue River Trout Fishing and KFC Buffet... Doesn't Get Any Better!

Image
Made the run to Oklahoma this weekend to fish the Blue River! Trout stocking season is winding down, so decided to make a trip and try our luck. Was a tough go with murky waters but our fishing partner caught four but only kept three trout; all were caught on ultralight spinning gear and using PowerWorms! Did see others catch them using MealWorms, PowerBait, and Marshmallows, too! Given the murky conditions, was a tough go for yours truly. Did hook (although foul hooked) one trout; and then caught one and landed it but lost in when trying to put it on the stringer! Overall, was an awesome day on the Lady Blue! Made better with some nice trout for a tasty brunch Sunday morning. Do stay tuned for the catch and cook video! After fishing the Blue River, decided to stop at Pauls Valley at the Kentucky Fried Chicken where the Colonel’s Buffet was being served! What a day… Sunny, short-sleeve weather, fishing a river, catching and losing trout, and then all you can eat KFC! It doesn...

Wet Wading for Trout on the Lower Illinois River! #coaffieldteam

Image
Made it to the Lower Illinois River earlier this month – June 2, 2018. Had a fun time wet wading the river for a chance at trout and other fish! Went with the 5 weight fly rod and one-handed spey casting with the OPST Commando Head. Used an olive Near Deere for the fishing fly. Fishing partner opted for ultralight spinning gear and Power Bait Trout Worms. Tip broke on the rod but he did manage to catch trout using a bubble fly rig! Your’s truly only caught one trout but did miss several more. Did catch a White Bass and a Striped Bass (little one), too. Hot day but the water was cold. And, even though the water was murky, the fish were biting. Ended up calling the trip short because they started generating power. No worries… made it to OKC early and checked out Bricktown… cool place!

Trout Fishing the Blue this Round! #troutfishing

Made it to the Blue River in Oklahoma for the first time this year. Been tough to breakaway and make the run across the border but finally had the opportunity Saturday. Bite was steady for our fishing partner using ultralight gear an Power Bait Trout Worms in Chartreuse. The showed no interested in Pink or Natural… all they wanted was Chartreuse. Yours truly fished with the 4wt fly rod and used the Rio Trout Max shooting head. Tried several fishing flies without success… then got one to take an Olive Near Deere. Did get a few more strikes but my mojo was off and missed the hook set. Got the hint, and switched to Trout Worms. After missing one and losing another, caught one! This round one of us limited out; the other caught two… no worries though, did stop by Blake Shelton’s Ole Red Restaurant in Tishomingo for live music and dinner!
