Pond Fly Fishing | Liking the Redington Pursuit Fly Rod and Ross Flystart 2 for Bluegill | 8' - 4wt

Image
Pond fly fishing for Bluegill at the local pond. Started out fishing with the Bait Finesse Systems rod and reel combo, but the pond was too clobbered with greenery. Switched to an eight foot, four weight fly rod and reel setup and managed to catch a fish or two. Liking the casting ability of the Redington Pursuit Fly Rod, can get some distance with the little eight foot rod. Pairs well with the Ross Flystart2 reel with WF 4wt Floating Line! Pond Fishing | Little Bluegill on a Fly Rod | Bethany Lakes

Image
Saturday started with rain but by afternoon all had passed, decided to go pond fishing at the local pond with the old Redington Pursuit 4wt Fly Rod with Ross Flystart 2 Reel. Fished a Pat’s Rubber Leg, Near Deere, and Guadalupana without success. Thought Bass would be biting given temps in the high 60 to low 70s. Wind was brutal, else a really nice day to be outdoors fishing! Ended up playing with the little Bluegill lurking by the Waterfall; strikes on a Griffith’s Gnat and Black Midge. No Bruisers but great practice for light striking trout!

Fly Casting Demo... Redington Pursuit 8 ft 4wt! Casting 50 feet or so? #flyfishing

Image
Lucked out catching a few fish with the PMC Emerger! While out on the local pond, decided to demo the Redington Pursuit 4wt – an 8 foot rod we picked up several years ago. Noticed on the Texas Fishing Forum a question about casting 50 feet or so with a 5wt 8 foot fly rod. Did not have an 8 foot in a 5 weight. But, did have this one in a 4 weight. Able to get 50 feet plus with a double haul cast,… even caught a fish while doing the demo! Fun stuff!

Quick Update - March 5, 2018 #flyfishing

Not able to fish today but did get a round in yesterday. Went with the 5wt lined with the OPST Commando Head. Struck out at Murphy in the morning, but did get some great practice in. Later, stopped at Bethany and caught three little Bass on a Purple Damsel Fly, and a bigger one on a White Foam Grasshopper. Editing the video still but here is a quick update…

Stoney Hollow Park Pond and the Purple Damsel Fly This Round! #flyfishing

Image
Fished Stoney Hollow Park pond in Plano this morning. Brought the 4 Weight Fly Rod and went with a Purple Damsel Fly in size 10. Varied the retrieve as needed to catch and release 11 Bass and one Bluegill. No pictures or video of the little Bluegill but did get some good video of several Bass. Largest Bass went 15″ in length! Fun times… great to see the Bass are doing well in the pond still!
