Pond Hopping with the OPST Commando Head... One-Handed Spey Casting! #coaffieldteam

Image
Having fun pond hopping local ponds and getting lots of practice casting the OPST Commando Head that we like using on our 5wt Fly Rod. Able to demo different casts that we use while in the Field. Not sure if they are the traditional fly casts techniques… mainly go with variations of casts until we find one that works for us. Gear used: Echo Ion Fly Reel 4/5 wt: http://amzn.to/2ql1EhN Redington Classic Trout Fly Rod (9′-4pc-5wt): http://amzn.to/2rENFHu OPST Commando Head (200 grain): http://amzn.to/2zftMuC OPST Lazarline Running Line: http://amzn.to/2gTrjOU

Easy Loading Heritage Featherlite Kayak, Means More Fishing! #coaffieldteam

Image
Demo video that shows why we like the Heritage Featherlite Kayak. Coming in at 38 pounds, it is easy to load and unload, portages readily, and can be lifted one-handed onto our shoulder for ease of launching. More important, it means the ease and convenience to load/unload equates to more fishing! Fun stuff! PS: For more on tips on buying a kayak for fishing and trolling using a kayak, see out articles at:  Tips on Buying a Kayak for Fishing and  Kayak Fishing: Tips for Trolling

Renewed the Annual Pass... Kayak Fishing Time! #coaffieldteam

Image
Been awhile since we fished Clear Lake Park (Lake Lavon). Made it there Saturday; renewed the Annual Pass and fished the morning. Bite was tough but did manage to get video of some of the action. Lots of fun, despite the bite being slow, able to get a great workout in and go fishing, too! Fun stuff! PS: Made it back Sunday, no Bruisers. Less wind, made a long paddle to the “Glass House”. First time there. Do check back for the video.

Quick Tie - Foam Spider aka Bream Getter #coaffieldteam

Image
Picked up the Foam Spider Fly Tying Kit from Feather Craft. Simple pattern with all the parts needed in the kit save for thread and fly tying glue. Makes 24 fishing flies and looks really like the Betts Bream Getter we like using for Bluegill. Easy instructions included with pictures. In our video, we followed the instructions except used UV Glue and made the legs longer than the Bream Getter – about double the size. Being attracted to long legs swaying about in the water, figured fish would like them too! LOL! Do give this a try, easy and simple to tie. And, extremely effective on Bluegill! PS: There is a book dedicated to tying Foam Spiders – Foam Spider Fly Tying Book.

Road Trip to the Texas Coast... Plus Sidetrips! #coaffieldteam

Image
Finished editing the video from last month’s trip to the Texas Coast with sidetrips to the Texas Hill Country. Fished the Guadalupe River but only briefly. No Bruisers but did get to try the OPST Commando Head on the River. Works great… perfect for fishing the area! Tooks sidetrips to Austin to the Oasis Restaurant to enjoy the view of Lake Travis and consume tasty foods and cold frozen drinks. Also, made stops in New Braunfels – specifically, Gruene.: The Grist Mill for a bite as well as some chips and salsa and other foods. The Gruene Hall for beers and live music! Gruene River Grill for the best MEXICAN MARTINIS! Gruene Outfitters where we found a combination Nail Knot Tying Tool and Nippers as well as some awesome – no slip, cork strike indicators Went on to the Texas Coast by way of Port Aransas, fun times fishing: Packery Channel where we quickly learned Fish Bites make great bait for perch, pinfish, hardheads, etc On the Cap’n Paul Fishing Boat – we ended up catching Snapper, Ja

Jug Line Fishing Again... Plus Snippet of Last Week's Fun! #coaffieldteam

Image
Still sidetracked by the day job but luckily Saturday’s are open for now for some fishing. This round more jug line fishing at Lake Lavon. Was there on the Fourth of July and only caught one on rod and reel while kayak fishing. Had video but file was corrupted while transferring to the computer. No worries… this round, able to get the video to transfer and finished editing it! Also, still working on the fishing and side trips last month to the Texas Coast and Hill Country; added a snippet to the end of this video. Do check back periodically; hope to get it posted sooner than later!

Still Here... Quick Note #coaffieldteam

We are still here! Enjoyed a road trip to the Texas Coast last week with some side trips to places we liked along the way. Working the video still due stay tuned! Also, did get a round of kayak fishing at Lake Lavon. Only caught one Catfish but did see others catching them on Jug Lines and Trot Lines! No video but did salvage a few pictures. Lost the video when the data file became corrupted while transferring to a hard drive. Laid back day of kayak fishing, grillin and chillin,… even saw horses at the boat ramp at Highland Park. More to come from last week; for now…. Good Luck and Good Fishing!     fixed the flat on my favorite #columbia #kayaking #sandals …went #kayakfishing on #lakelavon …only one #catfish but still had fun! Had video to edit but file was corrupted. No worries… able to get the lawn mowed and trimmed, now just #chillin with a #newcastlebrownale while watching the grass grow. #mylifeisgood still!
