Trout Fishing | Bubble and PowerWorm Rig Worked This Round (Dec 21, 2021)

Image
Decided to fish Pottsboro Lake in Pottsboro Texas this past Saturday. After a little rain in the morning, made it to the pond just as a cold front rolled in. Cold and windy, did manage three trout. Planned to catch trout using ultralight lures and a BFS Rod/Reel, but trout wanted PowerWorms. Good thing I had the Bubble and Fly Rig handy, just swapped the fishing fly for a PowerWorm. Bite was steady, just kept missing the hookset. Did get a few Bluegill and a Bass on the PowerWorms. Plus got some underwater video of what was lurking in the pond! Do check out the video! Great for Trout, too!

YouTube Shorts Video of underwater action shots of a Trout really liking a Berkley PowerWorm! Ended up catching three trout today but missed a lot more. Fished using the Kastking Zephyr BFS reel and a bubble fly rig but used a PowerWorm instead of a fishing fly. Windy and cold, still had lots of fun!

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | Which Technique Works Best?

Image
Had some fun this past weekend fishing for Texas Rainbow Trout at Pottsboro Lake in Pottsboro, TX. Brought the @GoFish Cam to get some underwater video; able to capture some of the action. But, was sidetracked on a quest… Which technique works best for trout? We tried the “Cranky, No Yanky” technique that calls for keeping a tight line and reeling faster when the trout strikes. This one worked the best; no need to use the rod to set the hook, just reel faster. And, we tried the “Rip Thy Lips” technique… this was not the preferred method for limiting out. This technique calls for setting the hook immediately and with a strong pull of the rod at any indication of a strike. Was a fun time; windy conditions… but we limited out. Do check out the video; added underwater footage of the trout moving about at the end of the video.

Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | What Worked This Round - Power Worms Crankie, No Yankie!

Made the run to Pottsboro Lake in Grayson County Saturday morning for some Texas Rainbow Trout fishing. Recently stocked with trout, the Team brought fly fishing gear, ultralight spinning gear, and a GoFish Cam to fish the pond. The morning started out with lots of surface activity similar to the trout feeding on a “bug hatch” at our local pond in Allen – Bethany Lakes. In short order, had strikes on the fly using the Generic Black Dry Fly Midge fished with a slow retrieve Our fishing buddy was getting strikes on PowerBait but once he found the pattern – a Power Worm fished with a slow retrieve or a stop and go retrieve, he was able to limit out in short order. Yours truly soon switched to a Power Worm but kept losing the trout when I would set the hook with the rod… I was yanking the worm out of the trout’s mouth. Luckily, after several more misses, I started to hook-up consistently when I kept reeling or cranking the reel to set the hook. The lesso...

Fly Fishing for Trout with Near Deere, Color Matters...! #flyfishing #neardeere #giveaway

Made the run to Pottsboro Sunday for another round of fly fishing for trout. Started late in the day due to the rain in the morning. Colder and windier than it was on Friday. Luckily, the trout were active and we were able to limit out. Since we knew the trout were there… decided to mix it up and fish different colored near deere – Olive, Pink, White… plus fished a Mop Fly, too. After changing fishing flies and trying different retrieves, this trip we noted: For fishing flies and color: The trout preferred Olive Near Deere over the other fishing flies. Mop Fly did get strikes but slowed when the trout wanted a “moving” fishing fly White Near Deere had a couple of strikes but not solid takes Pink Near Deere had a solid strikes but tended to get “bit” less frequently than the olive. For retrieves, When the wind was blowing strong consistently causing the bigger wind waves, drifting the fishing fly under a strike indicator did well. No need to add action to th...

Trout Fishing Pottsboro Lake! #flyfishing #tfoflyrod #cgrflyrod

Fished a new place yesterday – December 27, 2019… Pottsboro Lake located just north of Dallas in the town of the same name… Pottsboro. Stocked with trout earlier in the month, was not sure if the trout would still be there. It’s a small pond and may have had heavy fishing pressure. As it turns out, the trout were there. They were readily feeding on something near the surface if not on the surface. In short order, caught two limits. One of us was using a Chartreuse PowerWorm fished wacky rigged. The other used an Olive Near Deere with no indicator and fished with varying retrieves. Also, started with the TFO 6 wt Fly Rod with Echo Ion Reel. Then, switched to the Cabelas 2 wt CGR Fiberglass Fly Rod with an old 3wt fly reel. Lots of fun… PS: Ordered a new 1-3 Wt Orvis Hyrdos Fly Reel to use with the CGR going forward. More to come once it arrives! Do Like and Subscribe for the latest updates – COAF FIELD TEAM on YouTube! Click on pictures to see more about Cabela’s...
