When You Can't Go Fishing, We Can Talk Fishing...!

Image
Rain and cold has me indoors. No worries, can always talk fishing. Meaning making preps for our next fishing trips. This time it’s about review past videos, current videos, and online scouting. In particular, Senkos for Bass, EmmRod for a commuter fishing rod, and current action on bass and white bass in the area! Of note are playlist mentioned in the video: Senko Fishing EmmRod – Ponds and Commute Heritage Kayak

Make Your Senkos Last Longer with Super Glue #emmrod #senko #superglue

Super Glue and Senkos still works for getting a few more bass on the same Senko. Do see how I use it in the video where I “test” the EmmRod Senko Fishing Rod at the local pond for bass. Skip to 4:50 to see the Super Glue being used. Skip to 6:40 to see another tip to make the Senko last longer! Was a tough go with murky water but it was promising with several strikes and misses. Luckily, the rain held off, and was able to keep fishing. Managed to hook but lose a Bass. Then, caught two in the “flats”, and one bass on its bed! All went for Senkos, all caught using the EmmRod Senko Rod – Kayak King handle and Stream Master rod section. No issues casting, even for distance when needed. Liking the setup… plan to be the “commuter rod” to keep handy while going to/from the day job! Moreover, only used one Senko this trip!

While cleaning out the closet and organizing fishing gear, pooled the various plastic lures we accumulated over the past couple of years. Of note were the Senko Worms we had both the commercially available one from Gary Yamamoto as well as hand poured ones we made. Also, while organizing things in the room, had a lightbulb idea… switch the EmmRod Stream Master rod section with the EmmRod Kayak King rod handle. In short order, we have the EmmRod Senko Fishing Rod. Hope to try it out sooner than later… raining right now and throughout the week. No worries, will be ready to try it out as soon as we see a break in the weather. Do stay tuned!

Casting the EmmRod Fly Rod with a Shooting Head or WF Fly Line #emmrod

Image
Fished with the EmmRod Fly Rod the other day using the OPST Commando Head that we have on out Echo Ion 4/5 Wt Reel. Was able to cast well and catch a few fish once we made adjustments to our cast. Adjustments made were to the hand hold of the shooting head and the amount of shooting head to let out before starting the cast. Also, had to contend with line management as the mono running line tended to snag on rocks and brush at our feet. Afterwards, decided to try using a traditional fly line – specifically, a WF 5wt. Thoughts were… No need to setup each cast based on a specific hand hold on the shooting head Less snags and tangles with the mono running line would make for more fishing and less untangling of line Since a Switch Cast or Roll Cast would be limited by the short length of the EmmRod Fly Rod, benefit of a shooting head was less. And, since the plan was to fish areas where a backcast could be used, overhead and sidecast would be used most often when fishing. To check whic...

Fishing the Trinity River with the EmmRod Fly Rod! #emmrod

Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local pond for Catfish. Very convenient to carry around or keep in the little pickup truck. Ordered the Fly Rod, arrived yesterday but was not able to fish it till today. Had to make a run to Fort Worth, so brought the EmmRod Fly Rod and several Near Deere fishing flies just in case we had a chance at fishing today. Was able to fish with it on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Water was high with lots of flow from recent rains. Did manage to catch a few Longear Perch and Sunfish! Looks like the fly rod will be made readily available for more side trips while on the commute home from the day job!

Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local ponds for Catfish. Hope to try it out kayak fishing sooner than later. Decided to order their fly rod model. It came in today! Opened the box and checked it out. Looks promising. Was trying to decide on mounting the 2/3 Wt Echo Ion Fly Reel with a Rio Trout Max shooting head or the 4/5 Wt Echo Ion Fly Reel with the OPST Commando Head and Lazerline running line. Still deciding but hope to fish it this weekend, too! More to come!

More Fishing with the EmmRod Kayak King!

Image
Tried for another big Catfish like the one caught last week. Took three quick trips but did get another nice Catfish on the EmmRod Kayak King! First try had a big one but the line broke. Then, sidetracked with a trip to OK for an awesome airshow. Then, back to TX and a second go at a Catfish. Struck out but did see someone else catch a fish… a Bass. Tried the following day and was able to connect. This one was about the same length as the Catfish caught last week but seemed fatter! Fun stuff!

Fishing with the EmmRod... First Cast, First Fish! #emmrod

On a whim bought an EmmRod in their Kayak King Spinning Rod model to use for kayak fishing. Put the order in while on a cruise last week. Rod arrived while we were having fun in the sun and ocean. On our return, rigged up an old spinning reel that we managed to get working again… 30+ year old reel, and then mounted it on the EmmRod. Took it to a local pond and free-lined bread “mashed” around a circle hook. After about 15″ caught a nice Catfish! Not bad for the first cast, first fish on the little rod. Cannot wait to try it kayak fishing! EmmRod Kayak King Spinning Rod
