About Us

Welcome to Stocker Trout Fishing!

Our intent is to collate information about fishing for stocked Rainbow Trout – specifically, in North Texas.

In addition, we will include fishing reports when we make a dash across the border to Oklahoma, take road trips to the Guadalupe River in our home state of Texas, and on local trips to stocking locations in North Texas.

Moreover, we plan to post information we hope is useful to Readers interested in fishing for stocked Trout!

PS: Since the Winter Trout Stocking Season in Texas typically runs from late November/December to early March, do check back in the off season. We plan to shift to warm water fishing and will continue to post updates from the Field Team.

Also, since trout fishing is seasonal for our area, we will post off season fishing trips to our local ponds, lakes, and rivers as well as the occasional run to the Texas Coast.

More Urban Fly Fishing... #pond #fishing

More fun fly fishing ponds on the commute. This round it’s Crowley Park, Duck Creek, and Kroger Park! Crowley Park in Richardson yielded two Bass on an Indicator Fly. Lost the Wapsi Bream Getter to a Tree Fish! Duck Creek was a morning round that caught a few Sunfish, but did spy some nice Bass lurking by the bridge. Also, lost the Wapsi Bream Getter on the first cast. This was a new one we tied that morning. Finally, Kroger Park did well; able to fish the side of the pond that had been clobbered with greenery for weeks. Wind blew it to the other side! Took advantage and fished the clear bank and caught some decent Bass… using the Foam Damsel Fly. Tied another Wapsi Bream Getter but left at home…. no worries! Was still a great time!

Mardis Gras Near Deere Keeps Working

More fun catching Bass on the fly with the Mardis Gras Near Deere. Caught ten this time in just under an hour. But, had to call it quits early to go on a pizza run for dinner. No worries… still beats working! Playing the next few days by ear; will see what the change in weather brings. Pattern that worked for us yesterday and today was a fishing fly that simulated a small bait fish 1-1/2 to 2″ in length. If not fly fishing, would go with a small Road Runner of Crappie Jig on a steady retrieve using Ultralight Spinning Gear.

Saturday Switch Rod Practice at Bethany Lakes.... #switchrod

Decided to get a round of Switch Rod casting practice at Bethany Lakes this morning. Missed two Bass but did get two Bass. Lots of fun especially getting distance casts using the one-handed style we like. One Bass went for a Clouser Minnow; the other Bass went for an Olive Near Deere. The two Bass we missed went for the Clouser Minnow.
