Quick Trip to Bethany...!

Able to sneak away this evening for a quick trip to Bethany Lakes. Really nice evening with minimal wind. Made for ease of casting the fly rod. Bite was slow but still lots of fun. Caught a Bass and a Shellcracker on a Foam Grasshopper, and another Bass that went for a Near Deere. Bass were actively feeding on bait fish in the shallows, with lots of them opting for the “real deal” instead of our fishing flies! Hope to get out again before the weekend starts… else, if we cannot fish, we can always write/talk about fishing!   Two #bass and a #shellcracker this round. #foamgrasshopper and #neardeere …fun times #flyfishing A post shared by COAF Field Team (@coaf.field.team) on May 24, 2017 at 9:11pm PDT

Foam Grasshopper Worked Again!

Image
Had a fun time yesterday fishing Bethany using the 5wt Fly Rod and a Foam Grasshopper. Took a little to find where they were but once found able to catch a mix of Bluegill, Shellcracker and Bass.  Did lose the Grasshopper but did get a fish with a Pink Near Deere and another on a Rainbow Warrior. In the mix were several Bruiser Bluegill and Shellcracker as well as a couple of Bass that threw the fly. No worries… always a good time when fishing!   #flyfishing this evening. #bluegill #bass #sunfish #shellcracker this round! Caught most with #foamgrasshopper but did get one fish each with #neardeere and #rainbowmidge A post shared by COAF Field Team (@coaf.field.team) on May 10, 2017 at 8:42pm PDT

Caught a Shellcracker, then Back to the Lake!

Caught a Shellcracker Saturday morning on a PMC Emerger at Bethany Lakes, then got a call from our fishing buddy to load the jon boat and do some jug lining for Catfish. Hit Lavon and wound up catching four Catfish. Also found the Yellow Bass were lurking near the boat ramp. Went back Sunday with Ultralight Gear and Nightcrawlers and fun catching them, too. Videos in the works; more to come! Caught a nice #shellcracker Saturday #flyfishing at #bethanylakes then made a run to #lakelavon for #juglining and #catfish …video in the works. Quick trip after working the salt mines today! Still a chill in the air; bite was slower than yesterday but did manage to land a Bass, a Bluegill, and a Shellcracker that went for a Foam Grasshopper. Also, lost two others that we suspect were Bass. No worries… great way to end a workday! #flyfishing a #foamgrasshopper gets a #bass #bluegill #shellcracker this round! Cold Morning at Bethany... "Green Trout Anyone" #flyfishing

Image
The “illusive Green Trout” Was going for Rainbow Trout at Bethany Lakes this morning but was not able to catch any. Did catch a Shellcracker and two Bass aka “Green Trout”! Caught the fish using an Olive Near Deere. Did get two Trout to strike a Griffith’s Gnat but was not able to set the hook fast enough. Trout were in the pond and were actively feeding on the surface after about 8AM. However, wind and cold as well as the well positioned trees to hinder a back cast made it hard to cast where the fish were lurking. Cold morning but still had fun!

Quick Trip to Bethany with the Five Weight and a Foam Grasshopper

Lots of rain last week coupled with lot of work made for a tough time to go fishing. Started raining this afternoon, so had no plans to fish but then saw a break and made a run to Bethany. Grabbed the five weight fly rod (one that I broke and fixed last year) as it already had a Foam Grasshopper on it. Bite was steady with Bluegill, Sunfish, and Shellcracker. Did get one Bass to take as well. Lost count of how many but did get a few sample pictures posted on Instagram ( coaf.field.team )   Able to wet a line today, #flyfishing with #foamgrasshopper… #fish liked it! COAF Field Team Vlog #2 - Bethany Lakes

Image
Weekend in flux; not sure what to do or where to fish. No worries, fished Bethany Lakes and caught fish! Here is the second Vlog post from the Team! Still not sure what the plan is tomorrow but will figure a way to get a line in the water! Till next time… Good luck and good fishing!

Sunday Round at Bethany!

Image
Cooler Temps and rain these past few days may have changed the pattern. But, since we have not been able to fish since last Sunday, not sure what the pattern was in the first place! No worries, decided to give Bethany Lakes a try this morning. Started out with a Pink Near Deere and Rainbow Warrior Tandem Rig. Fish were striking on the Near Deere, so removed the Rainbow Warrior and fished the Near Deere. Lost the Pink Near Deere to a tree; tied on an Olive Near Deere and caught more fish. Not sure how many we caught and released but the bite was steady! Was using a Strike Indicator but removed it as the fish were wanting a short pull retrieve with a slight pause in between pull. Fun stuff! Grasshopper Does Well Again

Image
Headed to Bethany Lakes this evening. Grasshopper did well again. Caught Bluegill, Sunfish, and Bass in the Canal, Lower Pond, Main Pond, and Back Pond. Wind was strong and later the temps dropped slightly as a cool front rolled in. Lots of fun!
