Lower Illinois River

Fished the Lower Illinois River Saturday for the first time. There are trout to be caught. Even better it is a year-round fishery in Oklahoma! Do give it a shot in the near future!

Blue River is Stocked!

Blue River is stocked with Trout again! Reports are steady with limits being taken despite the warmer weather!

Finally made it to the Lower Illinois River for some Rainbow Trout Fishing. Had a great time scouting the river and seeing new places! Although it was tough fishing, we did manage to catch a fish or  two. First Rainbow Trout was in the Special Regulation Zone (also referred to the “Watts” area); it went about 12″ so we had to let it go. Next fish was a White Bass that we let go. Then, after a few missed hook sets, caught a Rainbow Trout that went about 11″ and another that went 14″. We were able to keep them for dinner since we were no longer in the “Watts” area. Dave’s Bait and Tackle (Gore, OK) Also, did see a couple of nice looking trout but neither were willing to strike. And then, later in the day – late afternoon/early evening, did see others doing well catching them with fishing flies! Do hope to fish the area again. PS: Did get some video and posted it below. Will plan to host a Q&A Live Stream for Readers to join and ask questions about our fishing trip! Also, THANKS to th

On the Road this Weekend....

On the road this weekend. Hope to hit the Lower Illinois River for Trout Saturday! Never been, so it’s a new adventure. Wish us luck!   #flyfishing road trip! A photo posted by COAF Field Team (@coaf.field.team) on Oct 28, 2016 at 4:05pm PDT

Denison Dam

Striper fishing at the dam was good today. I caught about 20 with 3 weighing between 4-6#, all on my fly rod. I missed more than that, including one that broke my leader and was 8-10#. I caught three sandbass as well as two nice size skipjacks. They're not generating until 1:00 this week so it gives plenty of time to fish in the morning.   Regards, The Lake Lavon Fishing Team.   Retrieved from http://forum.lakelavonfishing.com

COAF Field Team Vlog #18 – “Back to LLELA!”

Made it back to Lake Lewisville Ecological Learning Area. Used the 6wt Switch Rod and fished downriver from the tailrace. Caught a Bass and several Longear (we think they were Longear). A Bass and one Longear went for a Clouser Minnow. Other Longear went for the Near Deere and GRHEN Tandem Rig that we used in the Red Zone on the Lower Mountain Fork several weeks ago. Lost a number of fish while reeling them in. They were able to throw the hook as soon as any slack in the line happened. Forgot the rig we were using was barbless per the Red Zone requirement. Overall, had a great time… at times had a section of the river to myself. Also, met another fly fisherman and a some good fishing things to talk about as well as a Bald Eagle flew by us! Cool stuff especially in the middle of the DFW Metroplex!

Lower Mt Fork River - Broken Bow,OK - Trout Fishing Report With Pics And Video

Always a great report from a professional guide on the Lower Mountain Fork!           TarponFly: Re: Lower Mt Fork River - Broken Bow,OK - Trout Fishing Report With Pics And Video Broken Bow @ Beavers Bend State Park Fishing Guide Report: Lower Mountain Fork River The fall colors are probably going to start popping out within the next week or two. I'm starting to see some of the trees turning red and orange splotches, getting ready to really pop. Should be a beautiful scenery in the next coming weeks. I think we're at the tail end of the monarch migration. That was a beautiful sight to see, with hundreds of monarchs all around you all day long. We shared one of our spots with a bald eagle all morning long one morning, perched right above our heads in a tree. I was out scouting in a couple places I've never been before and noticed an eagle dive at a fish. I remembered an episode of

Below is the video of the afternoon’s action fishing the Lower Mountain Fork River’s Blue Zone this past Saturday. We were able to limit out with six Rainbow Trout. Had lots of fun fishing this one spot; we could see the fish lurking in the pool below the waterfall. In the video, we used an indicator to keep the fishing fly in the “money” zone where the fish were lurking. We also removed it when the fish started lurking deeper in the pool. And, in both instances the “twitching rod tip” seemed to get strikes more often than not. There was one point where we would let the line drift into the white water, and then we let the line continue downriver before beginning the twitching action. These seemed to work for several casts followed by flipping our line over causing us to fish with our rod underhanded. Shortly, after doing so, we would get a strike!

Had a great time Saturday fishing the Lower Mountain Fork River at Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma! Been a while since we last fished it. Luckily, found a break in the schedule and made the run north across the border! Fished the Red Zone in the morning in hopes of a Bruiser, and then the Blue Zone in the afternoon to try for a limit. Of interest this round were: The morning round resulted in no Bruisers but did see several nice ones lurking in places. None were interested in a fishing fly unfortunately including an Albino that looked about 18″ in length. Had lots of fun catching, missing, and seeing trout in a couple of places in the Cold Hole. Water was clear and could easily see the fish with polarized glasses. Trout seemed to like the Tandem Rigged Near Deere and trailing fly setup. More important, they tended to strike when the fly was moving fast either by a quick twitch of the rod or by swing the rod fast. The rapid, short pulls of the fly line did not get any strikes. Used

COAF Field Team Vlog #12 - Water Wolf Camera Action Shots!

Image
Went back to Bethany Lakes Sunday. Brought the Micro Fly Rod and the Water Wolf Camera for chance at the Bass that we missed Saturday morning. Ended up with catching one Bass but did get some actions shots of Bass and Catfish that were lurking in the area. Always pleasant surprise to see what we missed after reviewing the video footage taken by the Water Wolf Camera. In this case, thought we detected only two strikes but as it turned out there were three others that we did not know about. Micro Fly Rod and the “The Simple Fly” (TSF) worked well on the Bluegill and Sunfish. Changed the pattern a little by omitting the bead and how we tied the chenille to the hook. Also, the smaller size hook made for more consistent hook ups on the little fish lurking in the Waterfall pool. Fun stuff!

COAF Field Team Vlog #11 - "Two-Weight CGR at Bethany Lakes"

Fished Bethany Lakes Saturday morning. Brought the Cabelas CGR 2-weight fly rod and the 2/3 Echo Ion fly reel. Fished a “The Simple Fly” (TSF) – a very simple fishing fly made with a hook, pearl chenille, and white chenille. If desired, add a bead head. Also, fished the Marilyn Monroe Tenkara Fly, a Red/White Tenkara Fly, and a Foam Spider (was a Grasshopper but the tail broke off). Caught Bluegill and Sunfish, and one Bass… then had one Bass take a little Sunfish that went for the Red/White Tenkara Fly. Just in case caught another little Sunfish and tossed it in the same spot. Managed to get another to take! Got some video but missed hook sets. Went back today – Sunday, and used a Micro Fly Rod and downsized the hooks. Caught more bluegill and sunfish. Also, brought the Water Wolf Camera and spinning gear and live-lined several bluegill and sunfish near Waterfall. Still working on the video but did catch one and missed others. Will post the video when done. Stay tuned… always a surpri

The Simple Fly, Other Fishing Flies, and Live Bait...!

Been sidetracked by work and things. But, did get a chance for a couple of quick trips yesterday and today. Managed to catch a few Bluegill, Sunfish, and Bass using “The Simple Fly”, Near Deere, and tiny Midges as well as live Bluegill and Sunfish to get the Bass to bite!
