Fly Fishing for Bass with the Bass On Bed Fly #bobtail #bobfly

Image
Back to the local pond catching bass with the variant of the BOB fly… this one has added plumes to keep the hook riding high while on the bottom. Calling it the BOBTAIL Fly. Caught a little Bass with a Foam Grasshopper and a Sunfish… switched to the Foam Grasshopper because it was hard to see the BOBTAIL Fly due to the angle of the sun and the wind waves roiling up the water. Spied a Bass lurking by the outflow of the waterfall pool… switched back to the BOBTAIL Fly and got his attention. Nice sized Bass that reminded us of the ones that used to lurk in the pond! Good Stuff!

Able to fish the local pond with the Bass on Bed Fly. First round struck out, had bass on either broke the line; was using 4lbs test. Or, missed the hook set, else Bass threw the hook. Next round, modified the Bass On Bed Fly by adding more marabou plumes tied on the pool bend. Caught two Bass, success! Not sure what to call the pattern… for now it’s the Bass On Bed Fly aka BOB Fly with a plume! Do give it a try!

Out and About Sunday, A Bass Takes A Griffiths Gnat, then A Strike Out, and then Hail!

Out an about Sunday, March 24… stopped at Bethany Lakes in Allen for a try at the bass on their beds with a fishing fly we made for trout but modified it some to go for bass. Change of plans though… bass did not want to strike anything on their beds. Instead, a hatch started and they started feeding on them… some little bug, so we went with a Griffith’s Gnat and caught one, lost others, and then on to another pond later in the day. Struck out at the other pond, plus had to call it early do to a passing storm. Looked like it was going to miss us, so started grilling along and chilling with a Margarita or two! It did not… storm arrived and hailed on us too! Bummer… at least we got the grilling done! Plus caught a Bass!

Fishing the "Flats" at Bethany! #foamgrasshopper

Quick trip to Bethany Lakes this evening. Opted for the Foam Grasshopper again. Tried White in size 16, and Yellow and Green in size 10. Bass seemed to prefer the larger size; had several Bass follow the smaller size grasshopper but none sealed the deal with a strike. No worries… did get five to take the size 10 grasshoppers. Here is a snippet of the action! #flyfishing the flats at #bethanylakes gets 5 #bass this round on a #foamgrasshopper A post shared by COAF Field Team (@coaf.field.team) on Mar 16, 2017 at 10:08pm PDT
