In preparation for the approaching Trout Stocking Season, put a video together about three Oklahoma rivers – two that offer year round trout fishing and one seasonal fishery. Do check it out; we also included some key items to be aware of in the the Trout Area Regulations and General Trout Regulations posted by Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation online at https://www.eregulations.com/oklahoma/fishing/trout-area-information. May be useful to first timers thinking about fishing this Season! Good Luck and Good Fishing! PS: Added a bonus tip at the end that my be for interest to some!

Lower Mountain Fork River: 2014 - 2017 #lowermountainfork #beaversbend

Here is a collection of fishing videos starting with our first fishing trip to the Lower Mountain Fork River in Oklahoma in 2014 and ending with our last one on August of 2017. Mainly fished the Beavers Bend State Park – specifically, the Evening Hole, Cold Hole, and Spillway Creek. Of note were the changes to the river due to several floods that changed the landscape and redirected the river itself. Still was good to get out there over the years, and we do hope to return again in 2018!

Videos of Interest... #coaffieldteam

Chilly evening and work has us sidetracked from fishing. Was hoping to finish the underwater video edits from this past Sunday, but was not able to… luckily, we can always relive past fishing trips through videos like the ones below!

COAF Field Team Vlog #42 - Beavers Bend State Park Fishing! #flyfishing #lowermountainfork

Had the trout fishing bug strike this past Saturday. So, in short order, made the run across the border to Oklahoma for some fly fishing for Rainbow Trout. Was warm and lots of folks out and about. Still a great time… caught two trout for dinner, let go a small trout, and missed several others as well as caught a little Bluegill. Did notice changes to the Cold Hole and the narrowness of Spillway Creek as it flows into the Cold Hole. Also, did some exploring around the upper part of Spillway Creek up to the tail race. Did not fish the Red Zone but next round, when it is cooler, will make the effort to fish it! Used a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and either a Pheasant Tail Nymph or a Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph. Of the fishing flies the Pheasant Tail in size 14 was getting bit the most. However, did have a trout take a pink egg pattern. Just could not keep it on the hook! PS: Uploaded the non-HD version since the video is longer than normal.

COAF Field Team Vlog #15– “Fishing the Lower Mountain Fork Part 2”

Below is the video of the afternoon’s action fishing the Lower Mountain Fork River’s Blue Zone this past Saturday. We were able to limit out with six Rainbow Trout. Had lots of fun fishing this one spot; we could see the fish lurking in the pool below the waterfall. In the video, we used an indicator to keep the fishing fly in the “money” zone where the fish were lurking. We also removed it when the fish started lurking deeper in the pool. And, in both instances the “twitching rod tip” seemed to get strikes more often than not. There was one point where we would let the line drift into the white water, and then we let the line continue downriver before beginning the twitching action. These seemed to work for several casts followed by flipping our line over causing us to fish with our rod underhanded. Shortly, after doing so, we would get a strike!

Had a great time Saturday fishing the Lower Mountain Fork River at Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma! Been a while since we last fished it. Luckily, found a break in the schedule and made the run north across the border! Fished the Red Zone in the morning in hopes of a Bruiser, and then the Blue Zone in the afternoon to try for a limit. Of interest this round were: The morning round resulted in no Bruisers but did see several nice ones lurking in places. None were interested in a fishing fly unfortunately including an Albino that looked about 18″ in length. Had lots of fun catching, missing, and seeing trout in a couple of places in the Cold Hole. Water was clear and could easily see the fish with polarized glasses. Trout seemed to like the Tandem Rigged Near Deere and trailing fly setup. More important, they tended to strike when the fly was moving fast either by a quick twitch of the rod or by swing the rod fast. The rapid, short pulls of the fly line did not get any strikes. Fly Fishing Presentations for Trout Fishing...

Image
Had a request from a Reader asking us about the fly fishing presentations we use. We looked at past videos of trout fishing trips to the Blue River, Lower Mountain Fork, Turner Falls, and Possum Kingdom and collated short clips into the video posted below. The video shows examples of what has worked for us in the past; however, we are prepared to adjust to a given situation as needed to catch fish! Once the Trout Stocking Season starts, will plan to create a follow-up video that better illustrates the fly fishing presentations we use when fishing for Rainbow Trout!

Lower Mountain Fork is Open!

Image
Looks like the Lower Mountain Fork River and Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma are open again…Hooray! According the the Lower Mountain Fork River Foundation, they have continued to stock while the park was closed. Sounds like there will be trout to be had! Like fishing the River but certain that we won’t make it this weekend. Too many things “tugging” out our schedules that precludes us from making the trip… but for those who go, all the best at hooking into a Bruiser! We sure enjoy the area…. Fun Stuff... On the Lower Mountain Fork River!

Image
Here is the video from yesterday’s trip to the Lower Mountain Fork. It was a tough day of fishing with lots of fish in the area as evidenced by the underwater video shots of Trout lurking in the area we fished. Did catch five and missed a lot more. All in the Red Zone, so we had to let them go save for the one Keeper that went 20″! All but one struck a White Midge Pattern that we think is called a Rainbow Warrior. The one exception went for the Y2K Egg Pattern. We fished the Y2K as a trailer to a Near Deere. The Midge was fished either as a trailer to the Near Deere as well as a single fly under an indicator. Great time even though it was frustrating to see them look and turn away from out fishing flies. Gotta go back for another round; we hope sooner than later!. PS: We knew there were lots of Trout in the pool we fished but after reviewing the underwater video, we saw there we a lot more! Lower Mountain Fork…!

Back to the Lower Mountain Fork River at Beavers Bend State Park

Made it back to the Lower Mountain Fork River at Beavers Bend State Park. Tough day with lots of fish in the area; just did not want to bite. Did manage to get a few to strike including one Keeper that went 20″ in length! Fun stuff… still working on the video; will post soon as it’s done. Got some great video of the fish lurking but not biting! Video is posted... see it posted at this link!

Great video of the action at Lower Mountain Fork this weekend! TarponFlyis also the fisherman where we learned about Near Deere Fishing Flies ! Great fishing fly for Trout!

Saturday's Fishing Action at Beavers Bend

Image
Here is the follow-up video from Saturday’s fishing trip to Beaver Bend State Park in Oklahoma. Was able to get an underwater shot of one fish lurking in the pool where we caught the 18″ Rainbow Trout Learned the camera works much better when it’s turned on Was able to get action shots of one fish that we lost when it threw the fishing fly Was able to get action shots of the two fish that were caught Although the second fish caught was smaller of the two, it took longer to land it due to several runs to the fast current The flood from earlier in the year damaged the area and changed key fishing areas but overall it was good to see the fish were still biting! Used a Five Weight Fly Rod/Reel and fished a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and trailing Prince Nymph. Worked several pools and runs along Spillway Creek. Hooked a couple of Trout but lost them shortly after when they threw the fishing fly. Also, hooked and landed two nice Rainbow Trout – 18″ and 15.5″ trout that put up a great fight (as...

A Few Changes at Beavers Bend State Park

Image
Fished Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma Saturday; did a little looking around and captured video of some of the changes that have occurred due to the flood damage earlier this year. Evening Hole, Cold Hole, and Spillway Creek are much different than when we were here last year. Also, Lost Creek is definitely lost with minimal water flow and lots of debris to clobber the area. Word is that it will not be rebuilt. Regardless, the new areas are definitely fish-able! Managed to catch two nice Rainbow Trout! Picture posted below is one of the two. It went 18″ in size! Must plan on another trip before year end. PS: Still working on the fishing video from Saturday; hope to have it posted in the near future!
