Trinity River Fly Fishing with the MaxCatch 2wt Fly Rod? #switchrod #flyfishing #trinityriver

Was in Fort Worth Sunday, fly fishing under a bridge on the the Trinity River. It was just down the street from the Fort Worth Zoo. Used the 2wt Discount Switch Rod aka the MaxCatch Fly Rod with Orvis SL1 Fly Reel and Rio Trout Max Skagit Head. Great combo when fishing under the bridge; was able to get the fishing fly where needed with minimal false casting. Mainly caught Bluegill and Sunfish as well as some Longear, but did get a couple a Bass, too – a small fingerling and another that went about 12 inches. All went for a White Damsel Fly fished wit varying retrieves. Do check it out! Fishing the Trinity River with the EmmRod Fly Rod! #emmrod

Image
Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local pond for Catfish. Very convenient to carry around or keep in the little pickup truck. Ordered the Fly Rod, arrived yesterday but was not able to fish it till today. Had to make a run to Fort Worth, so brought the EmmRod Fly Rod and several Near Deere fishing flies just in case we had a chance at fishing today. Was able to fish with it on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Water was high with lots of flow from recent rains. Did manage to catch a few Longear Perch and Sunfish! Looks like the fly rod will be made readily available for more side trips while on the commute home from the day job!

TRWD Flyfest 2019... Saw Other Catching Fishing!

Image
Fun time today at TRWD Flyfest on the banks of the Trinity River in Fort Worth by the Acme Brick Company. Lots of fly fishing related things to do and learn, tasty foods, and tasty beer. Although we did not catch a fish; had one on but lost it, did see others do well in the Big Trout Contest! Do hope to make it back out there for another chance at a Bruiser Trout!

TRWD Flyfest 2018... and After! #trwdflyfest #coaffieldteam

Had a great time at TRWD Flyfest last weekend. Although we had to leave early, still had a great time. Came back the day after and saw others catching nice size trout, managed to catch one that went 16″ too! Then, came back this past Friday, March 16. Was having a tough go, but then caught one that went 20″! Great fight on the 6wt Switch Rod… looking forward to another TRWD Flyfest next year already! Made it to 2016, 2017, and 2018. Gotta keep the streak going!

Trinity River Trout Stocking....!

Keep this one on your calendars… another trout stocking on the Trinity River in Fort Worth! Always a great time fishing for trout on a river.

Struck Out On the Trinity; Did Get a Bass Elsewhere... #flyfishing

Fished the Trinity River this morning in hopes of Trout; no luck with them. But, did see lots of Carp… looked like they were spawning. Sight cast to passing schools and did get one strike but ended throwing the hook soon after. Later, decided to closeout the weekend with a quick trip to Stoney Hollow Park Pond in Plano. Caught a Bass using a Guadalupana and three Bluegill using a Foam Grasshopper. Was able to get video of the Bass; none of the Bluegill!   Struck out #flyfishing the #trinityriver in Fort Worth this morning. Was hoping for Bruiser trout. Did see #carp spawning, even had one on the line briefly! Back to the Trinity...!

Enjoyed TRWD Flyfest this past Saturday. Decided to go back to the Trinity River for another chance at the Bruisers that were stocked. Saw lots of folks catching them… unfortunately did not get one this round. Had some on the line, but could not close the deal and land them. Trout are much bigger than the normal stockers we have been seeing stocked this past season. No worries… got some great video of “how not to land them” and action shots of others getting the job done and catching them! Not sure how long the Trout will be in the river given warm temps ahead… regardless if you can make it there this week, your chance at getting one is more likely compared to the the following week! Lessons Learned this round… Don’t leave the landing net in the car, bring one! When using spinning gear – a split-shot and Power Worm is good (see the video for a picture of the setup others were using) When fly fishing, keep the rod tip high at the twelve o...
