Pond Fishing | Little Bluegill on a Fly Rod | Bethany Lakes

Image
Saturday started with rain but by afternoon all had passed, decided to go pond fishing at the local pond with the old Redington Pursuit 4wt Fly Rod with Ross Flystart 2 Reel. Fished a Pat’s Rubber Leg, Near Deere, and Guadalupana without success. Thought Bass would be biting given temps in the high 60 to low 70s. Wind was brutal, else a really nice day to be outdoors fishing! Ended up playing with the little Bluegill lurking by the Waterfall; strikes on a Griffith’s Gnat and Black Midge. No Bruisers but great practice for light striking trout!

Turner Falls Park Fishing | Rainbow Trout Were Picky!

Image
Able to make it yesterday – Saturday – January 23, 2021 to Turner Falls Park for Rainbow Trout fishing. Was not able to fish the Park when they stocked Rainbow Trout late last year. No worries was there yesterday. The trout are still there but were extremely “picky”. Tried different fishing flies including the Pat’s Rubber Leg, Near Deere, Megaworms, Mop Flies, Dry Flies, and Midges. After removing the strike indicator, had several take an Olive Near Deere managing only one trout and missing the other two. Fishing buddy caught four on Powerworms fished with a split shot and near bottom. Water was clear and could see the trout react to different baits and fishing flies. Was different than past trips… more vegetation clobbering the river made for tough fishing. Had to locate open areas and fish the pockets and holes. Also, there were more campers and fishermen than in past trips. However, area was not crowded; trout were just “picky”! PS: Also, learned barbless hooks were required; diffe

Blue River Oklahoma Fishing | First Trout Limit for 2021!

Image
Fun time fishing the Blue River in Oklahoma. Made the run across the border from Texas to Oklahoma for a go at the trout in 2020. This trip is the first one for us in 2021 and it did not disappoint. Much colder than last time with ice forming on rod guides in the morning. The bite was steady but strikes were extremely light… luckily, we had the right fishing fly – a Pat’s Rubber Leg variant tied by Zach Flatt and available at Scotty’s Blue River One Stop. Fished an olive and a cream pattern with the olive being the preferred this trip. Key take away… fish it using a dead drift, use a small indicator like the Corq version, and set the hook at any hesitation in the drift. Do check back for more videos, this one was a fun one to day… especially when a limit of trout was had!

Pond Fishing | GoFish Cam and Scouting for Fish

Image
Another pond fishing video where I try to scout the local pond for potential bruiser fish. Turned out mainly small fish but did have a promising strike on a bread bait of a Catfish. The underwater video is tough to make it out but luckily, I was able to see it pass through the led light while standing on the bank when it struck. Took the bobber under and the hook broke off. No worries… will be back once the pond clears up!

Drainage Canal Fishing | GoFish Cam Underwater Video

Image
Scouting the drainage canal with the @GoFishCam where I went fishing the other day. New there were fish but now have a better idea of what is lurking below. Did not see the nice bass in the culvert from the other day, but did see one that would have been fun to catch on the micro fly rod. Also, got some footage of the fish lurking in the pond, too. Did bot catch anything; it was cold but was able to stay out long enough to drain the camera battery down!

Micro Fly Rod Fishing | Two Piece Micro Fly Rod Quick Trip

Image
Was out this morning and had saw a chance to fish the feeder creek at the local pond. Good thing I keep the Micro Fly Rod handy… this one is the two piece micro fly rod made from a broken 8wt fly rod. Saw a nice bass in the culvert that runs from the feeder creek to the pond. Also, saw several smaller bass but none wanted to bite. Did lose a couple of Bluegill and land one Bluegill that went for the Guadalupana. Did call it quits… too cold, but just in time to miss the snow that came in shortly after!

First Fish for 2021!

Image
Was out and about today. Too nice a day to stay indoors. Decided to make a quick trip to Waterloo Pond while passing through Denison today. Was hoping for a limit but it was not the case. That said, yours truly caught his first fish for 2021… a little trout that went for a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and GRHEN. Trout went for the GRHEN! Great start to 2021!
