Pond Fly Fishing | Liking the Redington Pursuit Fly Rod and Ross Flystart 2 for Bluegill | 8' - 4wt

Image
Pond fly fishing for Bluegill at the local pond. Started out fishing with the Bait Finesse Systems rod and reel combo, but the pond was too clobbered with greenery. Switched to an eight foot, four weight fly rod and reel setup and managed to catch a fish or two. Liking the casting ability of the Redington Pursuit Fly Rod, can get some distance with the little eight foot rod. Pairs well with the Ross Flystart2 reel with WF 4wt Floating Line! Drainage Canal Fishing | GoFish Cam Underwater Video

Image
Scouting the drainage canal with the @GoFishCam where I went fishing the other day. New there were fish but now have a better idea of what is lurking below. Did not see the nice bass in the culvert from the other day, but did see one that would have been fun to catch on the micro fly rod. Also, got some footage of the fish lurking in the pond, too. Did bot catch anything; it was cold but was able to stay out long enough to drain the camera battery down!

Fly Fishing with the Foam Grasshopper, TFO 6wt Flyrod, and Echo Ion Flyreel! #flyfishing

Image
Made it to Kroger Park on the commute home. Always good to have a fishing rod handy in the little pickup for times when traffic is slow and yours truly prefers to fish rather than drive in stop and go traffic. This round used the Foam Grasshopper with the TFO 6wt Flyrod coupled with the Echo Ion 6/7wt flyreel. Reel has the OPST Commando Head and the coated monofilament running line. Made for ease of casting and distance when needed. Pond was clobbered with lots of green stuff but did catch a few bluegill and bass. Fun stuff!

More Fish on the Fly... Fly Fishing at the Local Pond! #flyfishing

Image
Made a stop on the way home from work Monday. Rain was in the forecast but was able to catch a Bass and Bluegill or two or more before the rain arrived. Use the TFO 6wt Fly Rod; Echo Ion 6/7/ Wt Reel, and OPST Commando to cast Damsel Flies, a variant of one, and Tube Fly Poppers. The Damsel Fly Variant did well catching them… even had fun catch a nice Bluegill that bent the rod well!

Finding the Pattern Fly Fishing Kroger Park ... #Guadalupana Give Away

Image
Was trying to catch fish at Kroger park, specifically, Bass using the Tube Popper Fly that worked well at Stoney Hollow Pond. Switched to a Damsel Fly Variant when it did not work, then switched back to the Tube Popper Fly. No luck there, so went with a Guadalupana… it worked. Do check out the video for tips and an idea on the retrieve we used when working the Guadalupana. Liked the fishing fly but did lose two Bass that threw the hook out after the initial hook set. Decided to tie Guadalupanas to replace the one lost this trip. Then, decided to give away two of them instead of the Near Deere Give Away for this month! This Give Away… We picked a number between 1 and 200! First to guess the number, and with a US mailing address… WINS! This Give Away are two Guadalupana… in Size 8. Size 8 to better hook Bass instead of the size 10 we used. One Guadalupana has its hackle tied Palmer style. The other Guadalupana has hackles tied Dry Fly style. One guess per day… just post in the comments o...

Pond Fishing at Kroger Park with the TFO 6wt for Bass!

Image
Fished Kroger Park in Allen, TX Sunday, March 31, 2019. Struck out but did have a few strike fishing flies; just could not connect. Came back Tuesday, Arpil 2, 2019. Managed to catch a Bass on a Foam Grasshopper; shortly after lost the fishing fly to a snag. After trying different patterns, settled on a Damsel Fly Variant that kinda looks like a Dragonfly. Soon after caught two Bass and a Bluegill before calling it a trip as it got dark. Fun times… liking the 6wt TFO Fly Rod with the Echo Ion Fly Reel and OPST Commando Head!

Out and About Pond Fishing! #coaffieldteam

Image
Tough time fishing lately, even with time off from work… pulled away with other “fam bam” commitments. No worries, been having a great time enjoying good food, strong drinks, live music, and great friends! Day job has impacted things as well, but did hook the fishing partner with a new kayak… got my Heritage Featherlite back; partner gets a Pelican Catch 100… liking the chair, the stability, and the ease of standing up in it! Hope to get some video clips while we are out kayak fishing, till then… making do with some pond fishing at Kroger Park in Allen and Crowley Park in Richardson.

Size 14 Foam Grasshopper... Worked Well! #flyfishing

Fished Kroger Park and Bethany Lakes (Lower Pond) yesterday. Great way to enjoy Cinco De Mayo… fishing and then chillin’ later while grillin’! This round, decided to downsize the Foam Grasshopper from a Size 12 to a Size 14 since the many missed hook sets the other day. Figured the smaller hook size would increase our hook up rate as well as confirm our thoughts… smaller Bluegill striking or more like nipping at the Size 12 fishing fly. Ended up catching 16+ fish with a mix of Bluegill and Bass. Fun times!   Happy #CincoDeMayo …went #flyfishing with #foamgrasshopper caught #bluegill and #bass …now just chillin with cheap but tasty red #wine so ready for the #weekend A post shared by COAF Field Team (@coaf.field.team) on May 5, 2017 at 6:53pm PDT

Foam Grasshopper Again This Round!

Image
Front was rolling in and temps were dropping and the wind was howling. Decided to try fishing Kroger Pond since the Significant Other sent Your’s Truly on a grocery errand… which equates to a stop at the pond at Bethany Ridge Park aka “Kroger Pond”! Managed to catch two Bluegill and a nice Bass. Had lots more misses but the size 12 Foam Grasshoppe r was too big for the little Bluegill that were nipping at the fishing fly. No worries though… the Bass put up a nice fight on the 5-Weight!   #flyfishing with a #foamgrasshopper this evening was slow with a front rolling in. Did get this #bass along with a couple of #bluegill though! #fishing A post shared by COAF Field Team (@coaf.field.team) on May 3, 2017 at 6:08pm PDT

Sidetracked While Running an Errand! #flyfishing

Image
Out running an errand after work today. Sidetracked with some fishing at Kroger Park (aka Bethany Ridge Park). Caught Bluegill on the 2wt Cabelas CGR Fiberglass Rod and the Echo Ion 2/3 Reel. All went for a variant of the PMC Emerger… the PMC GNE! Log Book Entry: 3/9/17 Location: Bethany Ridge Park Pond aka Kroger Park (Allen) Time: 18:00 – 18:45 Weax: Clear, “Short Sleeve”, Calm Rod: Cabelas CGR 2wt – 6’3″ Reel: Echo Ion 2/3 – 3wt Flyline Comments: Bass were active and in their beds. Had one strike the fly but no solid hook ups with Bass. PMC Emerger GNE did well with Bluegill lurking in the shallows and near the feeder creek readily taking the fishing fly. Did see several nice Bass and a large Catfish cruising the area! Landed: 5 Bluegill – 4″-6″ – PMC Griffith’s Gnat Emerger (PMC GNE) – Sz 16 Click on pictures to see more about Cabela’s CGR Rod/Reel Combo and deals they are offering!

More Switch Rod Practice....

More Switch Rod practice this evening at Kroger Park. Got some nice distance cast and caught a Bass and a number of Bluegill. Especially liked the Bluegill lurking mid-pond but well within reach of the Switch Rod! Caught the Bass on a Foam Grasshopper; others were a mix of the Grasshopper and a Near Deere!   More #bass & #bluegill on the #switchrod this evening! #neardeere &#foamgrasshopper were key! Switch Rod Practice Was Good!

Had fun practicing with the Switch Rod at Kroger Pond this evening. Caught a Bass and number of Bluegill on a Orange as well as an Olive Near Deere. Fun stuff!   #switchrod practice was good. Kroger Park to Test the new Fly Rod!

Image
Had an old Eagle Claw Fly Rod in a 5 weight; could not find it for sale anymore. Saw the Eagle Claw Fish Skins Fly Rod in a 5 weight, 9′ length, and two pieces. New rod arrived today, tested it out at Kroger Park… feels like the old Eagle Claw. Even can cast for distance quickly when needed! Had a fun time catching Bluegill and little Bass. Did get one Bruiser Bluegill; posted it on the Fishing Bulletin Board !

Only One This Round....

Image
Headed to Kroger Park after work this evening. Only had a short window to fish. Good thing… bite was slow! Only one this round – a Bluegill on a GRHEN. Water was cloudy and green. Lots of things growing in the water to clobber your lure. No worries; still had a great time getting away! Bream Getter Cabela's Fiberglass CGR Fly Rod Rooster Tail Inline Spinners Mepps Trout Kit

Micro Fly Rod Fishing at Kroger Pond This Round

Image
Kicked off the weekend with a round of fishing at Kroger Pond. Had not fished it for some time; good to see the water is clear at least in the Feeder Creek. Did see lots of “green stuff” clobbering the pond area. Regardless, fish were going for a Size 16 Foam Grasshopper . No Bruisers other than a nice sized Sunfish; no worries though, they all put up a good fight on the Micro Fly Rod ! Cannot recall how many fish were caught and released but over 20 would be a good “guestimate”… next question, where to fish tomorrow? Going to play it by ear for now!

COAF Damsel Fly Works, Too!

Image
Tied a White COAF Foam Damsel Fly and fished Kroger Park this morning. Saw several nice looking Bass chasing bait fish in the shallows but none wanted the fishing fly. Luckily, the little Bass and one Bluegill really liked the fly! Posted a couple of pictures of two below and a video clip of today’s action! PS: Checked out Bethany this evening; managed to hook up with four Bass.  All went for the COAF Foam Damsel Fly!
