One That Got Away | Micro Fly Rod and GoFish Cam

Image
Fished the local pond using the Two Piece Micro Fly Rod to catch Sunfish and Bluegill for live bait. Plan was to rig up our GoPro and GoFish Cameras for some underwater action shots of fish lurking in the area. In short order, managed to catch (as well as miss) a fish or two using a simple Midge pattern. Later, switched to a Tenkara fly when I lost the Midge. Fun stuff, fly fishing with the Micro Fly Rod… was hoping for more fun with the underwater cameras. Ended up only using the GoFish Cam. Did not land a fish but did see what was in the pond lurking as well as got a glimpse of the one that got away… a nice Bass that looked like the 20″ one caught last week!

Two Piece Micro Fly Rod | How Much Line Does the Reel Hold?

Image
Live stream update from the Team! Answering the mail about the two-piece micro fly rod. Specifically, how much line does the reel hold. Never measured it; decided to do so live to answer the mail! Do check out the video, and do check back… heading back to the local lake for more kayak fishing!

Micro Fly Rod Fishing | Two Piece Micro Fly Rod Quick Trip

Image
Was out this morning and had saw a chance to fish the feeder creek at the local pond. Good thing I keep the Micro Fly Rod handy… this one is the two piece micro fly rod made from a broken 8wt fly rod. Saw a nice bass in the culvert that runs from the feeder creek to the pond. Also, saw several smaller bass but none wanted to bite. Did lose a couple of Bluegill and land one Bluegill that went for the Guadalupana. Did call it quits… too cold, but just in time to miss the snow that came in shortly after!

Fishing the Waterfall Pool with the Micro Fly Rod... Last Cast? #microflyrod #microfishing #microflyfishing

Image
For a change of pace, decided to checkout the Waterfall Pool at the local pond. Normally catch little Sunfish, Bluegill, and the occasional Bass. Brought the two-piece Micro Fly Rod and started fishing a Near Deere with the Corq Strike Indicator, but switched back to the Line Strike Indicator… fish seemed to be distracted from the fishing fly and wanting to strike the Corq. Also, tied a Scud on as the Near Deere was just too big for the little fish in the pool. Fun time catching and releasing the scrappy fish… but of course, had trouble with determining which cast would be the last cast for this trip… aka “one more cast” for your’s truly!

Micro Fly Rods Revisited... #microflyrod #microfishing

Image
Several years ago we modified a Pen Fishing Rod and made our first micro fly rod. It was a prototype where we used a crappie reel as the fly reel and electrical tape to mount it to the Pen Rod. Later, we made more modifications and published an article online detailing the modifications – COAF Micro Fly Rod . Since then, we have made others using the same Pen Fishing Rod but removed the rod guides and replaced them with larger rod guides. The original rod guides will work but we find the larger rod guides make for better casting. Also, when we broke a four piece 8wt fly rod accidentally, we salvaged the top two sections to make a two piece Micro Fly Rod. This one is fun to fish with and casts well but it does not collapse like the modified Pen Fishing Rod which we keep in our backpack… meaning the backpack we take to work everyday. Gotta be ready for any opportunity to fish! Last but not least in the our Micro Fly Rod arsenal is the Kiyotaki 18 Tenkara Rod. This one is compact and ...

Celebration Park Northeast Pond

Image
Stopped by Celebration Park this evening and fished for Bluegill and Sunfish with the two-piece Micro Flyrod. Caught several Bluegill and Sunfish using a Tenkara Fly. While fishing for the little scrappers, put out the Water Wolf Camera and fished for whatever would bite. Had a number of strikes but no hookups. Still working on the video but did post a short clip of one Catfish stealing our bait! PS: Video was lost in the web migrations; here is another video of a nice size Catfish being caught and released!

Two Piece Micro Fly Rod Worked Well!

Image
Tested the Two Piece Micro Fly Rod at Bethany Lakes yesterday. Rod worked well; was able to cast to the backing several times and had no issues reaching the fish that were in the pond. Used two fishing flies – a Damsel Fly Variant and a Grizzly Hackle Dry Fly. Both caught fish but will need to try a size 14 instead of the size 12 next round. The Bluegill were not as big as the ones we were catching at Kroger Pond the other day. So far, we are liking what we see with the Two Piece Micro Fly Rod. Will have to “test” it out more in the near future! 2-Pc Micro Fly Rod (L), Wine Cork Micro Fly Rod (C), Telescoping Micro Fly Rod (R)
