Following up on yesterday’s post where we tested out a new pattern – the Bent back Clouser Variant, posted an online article ( “Fly Tying – Bent Back Clouser Variant” ) and fly tying demo showing how we tied the pattern. Do give it a try some time!

Tested out a new pattern… a Bent Back Clouser Variant. This one uses a weighted keel instead of dumbbell eyes or bead chain, and the hook shank is bent back slightly. Worked well today at Sonic Pond! Tried it at Bethany Lakes, yesterday with some success. Today was much better. Used a larger hook and flashy chenille instead of flashy tinsel. Stay tuned for the fly tying demo on how to tie one!  

Made it back to Bethany Lakes after work this evening. Only three Bass this time; still a great time. Was testing out a Bent Back Clouser Variant – this one uses a weighted keel and no dumbbell or bead chain eyes. Weighted keel is enough to sink the Clouser. Also, use Craft Fur instead of Deer Hair; tied the Craft Fur sparse, and then wrapped the hook/keel with holographic tinsel. Two Bass went for the Bent Back Clouser Variant; one Bass went for a Mardi Gras Near Deere. Did lose a nice one that went for the Bent Back Clouser Variant. Oh well, good excuse to go fishing again!
