Denison Dam Tailrace Fishing | Things We Like To Have

Image
Here are a few things we like to have when fishing the tailrace at our local reservoir – Texoma lake and its tailrace referred to as Denison Dam. See details at COAF Field Team – Denison Dam Tailrace Fishing . As for the casting float we like to use, this is our favorite one. It is made by Flex Coat and when available you can get them at Walmart Online . This float can launch small baits and lures up to 100 yards away. On top of offering extreme distance, the Launcher has a unique flat top design that gives special lure action on the retrieve. Its splashdown and action attracts fish as it resembles the movement of schooling or feeding bait. The Launcher is guaranteed to expand the use of all lightweight baits and lures without needing special skills to do so. Look for it in a variety of sizes to suit all of your fishing needs. Dam Fishing - How we decide when and how to fish (Denison Dam)?

A detailed video on how we decided when and how to fish a dam by finding the pattern… of the water flow based on real time release data and generation schedules. Do check it out and do stay till the end to see who won the Paracord Fly Rod Tube Rack Give Away! Steps detailed n the video… Team decided to fish Denison Dam Saturday July 27, 2019 using fly fishing gear and spinning gear. Able to arrive at first light and catch a few small Striped Bass before they started generating power. Once they started generating, headed downstream and we managed to catch a Bass and a Gar, else no more Stripers. Overall a fun time on the Red River fishing Denison Dam! Striped Bass were caught with a crankbait Rattle Trap or a Clouser Minnow. Gar went for Shad; the Bass went for a Clouser Minnow!

Chilly evening and work has us sidetracked from fishing. Was hoping to finish the underwater video edits from this past Sunday, but was not able to… luckily, we can always relive past fishing trips through videos like the ones below!

Denison Dam for Fly Fishing Fun!

Planned to fish the Blue River for Rainbow Trout today but heard the recent rains muddied the river. Was still wavering yesterday on where to fish, so just in case decided to tie some Clouser Minnows to go along with the Near Deere, GRHENs, and Rainbow Warriors. Good thing we had the Clouser Minnows! Ended up catching several Largemouth Bass, Striped Bass, and even a Catfish. Had some “technical difficulties” with the camera but did manage to get video of the action to include a 29″ and 22.5″ Striped Bass. Ended the day with four Striped Bass on the stringer! Would have kept going for a limit but ran out of Clouser Minnows. Had tied five last night. Lost one to a Bruiser that struck the fishing fly and ran for the rocks. Could not turn it with the 5 Weight… lost another Clouser after fouling with someone’s old fishing line; remainder were lost to rocks. Luckily, did pick up some “new tackle” from the rocks, too! Overall, had a great time o...

Denison Dam This Morning

Image
Decided to make the run across the border and fish Denison Dam. The road to the Tailrace from Texas is still closed due to the damage from the water running over the Spillway. Arrived shortly before sunrise. We fished weighted Pencil Poppers, Bucktail/Fluke Jigs, Rat-L-Traps,… etc without a strike. Did have a Cormorant go for a Pencil Popper and ended up getting foul hooked. Luckily, with the help of another fisherman to hold the bird’s head down, was able to remove the hook! They do have sharp looking beaks that could leave a mark! Mainly fished the Texas side but as things turned out, should have fished the Oklahoma side as the Stripers seemed to be cooperating with the fishermen… observed several Stripers caught using Bucktail/Fluke Jigs as well as live Shad freelined into the current. Also, saw a nice Bruiser… no pictures or video – SD Card ran out of memory. That said, the video we did take is posted below. Do note the number of boats passing through t...
