Lake Lavon Fishing | Slabs, Shad, and the Lazy Man Fishing Method!

Image
Fished Lake Lavon this past weekend. Saturday at Brockdale; Sunday at Highland. This is the follow-up video showing the action Sunday. Windy and lots of waves to deal with, luckily the twelve foot jon boat and 2.5 Suzuki Outboard made for an easy run to the Water Treatment Plant for some fun with White Bass. Later, made it back to the Point, found some Shad in the brushy areas with the cast net, and then fished a modified Sabiki Rig… replace the Slab with a weight and the Crappie Jigs with hooks. Caught several keeper size Catfish – largest went 19 inches, and White Bass as well. Also, released several undersized Catfish and White Bass as well as Yellow Bass. Overall, it was a fun trip. Did see the drainage area is flooded by the Water Treatment Plant… but most important learned the Lazy Man Fishing Method! PS: The 2.5 Suzuki Outboard works well as a pillow! Slab and Jig Fishing

More Cast Net Fun for Shad!

Image
Made it back to Lavon Sunday for more cast net fun. Was working the beach area at Brockdale. Was able to wade further out until the water felt cooler and cast. Caught smaller Shad compared to the ones caught at Highland. Did shift to Highland and was able to add more Shad, filling a Ziploc bag. Was using an 8ft diameter cast net that we repaired. Did get the chance to try a fishing buddy’s 14ft diameter cast net earlier in the week. It’s heavy but sure covers lots of water!

Kayak Fishing at Lavon... #shad #kayaking

Image
Short notice quick trip to Lake Lavon at Highland Park for a chance at catching a fish or two kayaking one of of the points. Windy conditions and some waves to deal with, else no issues other than no fish on our hooks. After fishing a double rig using shad for bait, switched to trolling a slab and jig rig. Neither had a bite, so headed back to the boat ramp. Good thing we were able to catch some Shad else the trip would have been a strikeout! No worries, one of the reasons why we like kayak fishing… if no fish, can at least get workout in!

Brockdale Park is Open... Struck Out But Still Fun Surf Casting!

Image
Setup the surf casting rod and made the run to Brockdale Park (Lavon). Thought the park was closed, planned to walk down from the gate. Arrived and found out it was open. Drove down to the parking area. Lake level is up. Able to get some great surf casting practice in. No fish but did have a few boats come close to the point where we were casting. Was casting well past the wakes they left. Next round… hopefully Denison Dam!

Kayak Fishing and Jug Lining at Lake Lavon...! #coaffieldteam #kayakfishing #juglining

Image
Kayak fishing last Sunday, putting in at Highland Park (Lavon Lake). Morning was calm, easy to deploy jug lines. Later, wind kicked up and it made for some fun conditions. Used Shad for bait and caught four Catfish, fishing partner had several bites using a fishing pole, and even caught a keeper size Crappie. But, yours truly lost it while putting it on the stringer! Jug lines worked well… both the Jugger jug lines bought from Academy Sports and the homemade dual use Jug and Marker Buoy Lines (see article at Kayak Jug Fishing )!
