More beat the heat with TBT to Denison. See full video at Denison Dam Fly Fishing on YouTube! Got lucky… plan was to fish the Blue River but recent rain diverted us to the Red River – specifically, the tailrace to Lake Texoma at Denison Dam! Fun time fly fishing at Denison Dam! Lake Lavon Fishing - Kayaking and Juglining Gets Kayak PB! #kayakfishing #juglining #catfish

Image
Fun time juglining and kayak fishing Lake Lavon Saturday. Even caught a personal best Blue Catfish from a kayak… went 30 plus inches! Did catch a bigger one several years ago on Lake Lavon but that was in a jon boat and with a fishing buddy. This one was caught and landed by yours truly! Lots of fun… had to make a run to shore to land it. Lots of winds and waves and no net; did not want to risk losing it trying to land it in the kayak. Longer than normal video… includes details on the kayak jug lines used and setting up the first group of three jug lines. In keeping with the COAF Field Team’s motto… “Learn to fish by our trials and errors”

COAF Field Team Vlog #9 "Caught a Nice Catfish using a Micro Flyrod"

Image
Another Vlog filmed in the field. This round we decided on a quick trip to Celebration Park to try some Micro Fishing with the two-piece Micro Flyrod. Started out using small fishing flies – Rainbow Warrior and an Olive Midge, but later switched to a Guadalupana . While catching the little Bluegill, we noticed larger fish chasing baitfish in the shallows. Hoping for a chance at hooking one, tied on a Guadalupana. Caught a Bluegill soon after and then had a surprise when a Bruiser Catfish took the fishing fly and ran the reel to the backing. The Micro Flyrod did well and we were able to land the Catfish – estimated about 18″ in length. Fun stuff on ultralight gear! PS: Posted the Catfish on the Fishing Bulletin Board !

COAF Field Team Vlog #6 - "Denison Dam"

One Keeper…. This round we went back to Denison Dam Saturday morning for another go at Striped Bass. The generation schedule showed no planned generations until around 12:45PM. So, by the time we started fishing, we had at least three solid hours to fish the pools and runs! InTouch Switch Chucker Last week we picked up a Lamson Waterworks Liquid 4 reel from Cabelas. After a little research on which fly line to use, we went with Rio’s InTouch Switch Chucker line in a 5wt per Rio’s line selection app! Had to order online and wait about a week. While we waited for the fly line to arrive, we fished the 8wt Switch Rod on local ponds to practice casting. Even better, we caught a few fish while practicing… then, Friday the new fly line arrived, and in no time, we had it spooled on to the fly reel. The bite was steady but the Striped Bass were little. Also, we did catch a few Longear when we changed from a Clouser Minnow to a Near Deere. We had caught one little Stripe...

Caught a Nice Catfish... Got Some U/W Video, Too!

Image
Made more mods to the Water Wolf Camera for casting purposes. Was able to catch a nice Catfish while testing it out! Got to see what was stealing out bait as well – Panfish and Turtles. A couple more tweaks and hope to get more action videos of fish taking a lure or bait! Modification may also help when trolling for White Bass. Wrist still healing, so kayaking on hold for the short term. Soon as we can get back out there, will be testing the Water Wolf Camera out on Lake Lavon!

Field Team's 2015 Fish of Interest

Image
Looking over the year in review, 2015 has been a good year for the COAF Field Team. Of note are six fish of interest that were caught. Below are the videos we posted on YouTube of the fishing trips that resulted in a fish of interest! Do check them out as well as the iFishRadio Broadcast that talks of the Field Team’s Fish of Interest! Back in May  Fshng84 caught a three foot alligator gar while kayak fishing on Lake Texoma. Although foul hooked while trolling for Striped Bass, it still gave a good fight and was subsequently released to grow bigger! Then, in July, NucLaroche and Fshng84 caught a 33″ Catfish using juglines on Lake Lavon’s Bratonia Park. That same month, the Team headed to the coast and fished the Galveston Fishing Pier and the 61st Street Fishing Pier (also in Galveston). While fishing the 61st Street Fishing Pier, Fshng84 caught a 27-1/4″ Blacktip Shark! In October, on two consecutive trips to Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma, the Team was abl...
