What I Did Again To Limit Out Trout Fishing... 5 Steps Worked!

Image
Fished another pond for trout and limited out. Tried the five steps detailed in another video. Looks like they worked! Just needed to find the pattern. Check out the video! Link to other video... "What I did to limit out for trout." Followed the same five steps as outlined below: Step 1 - Observe Step 2 - What worked before? Step 3 - What is Different? Step 4 - Give them what they want! Step 5 - Catch a limit! Ended up limiting out on trout suing Silver Super Dupers! #baitfinesse #bfsfishing #troutfishing

Trout Fishing Murphy City Complex Pond | Livestream in Murphy, Texas

Image
After only a strike and a miss, decided to post a livestream while trout fishing at Murphy City Complex Pond. Saw lots of folks, with limits being taken on PowerBait and PowerWorms as well as lures. Gold Super Duper worked for some in the morning. Later, Silver Super Dupers were getting bit. Key was to cast mid-pond , let the lure sink, and retrieve slow... much slower than the retrieve that worked last weekend in McKinney's Towne Lake.

Derby Day Trout Fishing with the RIO Trout Max #flyfishing

Out and about trout fishing at the local derbies last weekend! Able to limit out on trout… used the MaxCatch 2wt Fly Rod and Orvis Hydros SL1 Fly Reel lined with the Rio Trout Max One-Handed Spey and OPST Lazar Line!

Switch Rod Practice in Preps for TRWD Flyfest!

Image
Decided to get the switch rod out in preparation for next Saturday’s TRWD Flyfest. Tend to use the switch rod while fishing for trout as longer cast are needed at times and like the ease of less and/or no false casting. Stopped at Towne Lake in McKinney and got a round of practice casts in. No trout but still good to bend the rod. Then, headed to City Complex Pond in Murphy and got lots of practice in… and even limited out on trout! Tandem-rigged Near Deere with a trailing nymph be it a GRHEN or Pheasant Tail Nymph worked this round. Fun times… hope to do a repeat next Saturday at TRWD Flyfest!

Trout Fishing Texas Pond in Murphy Texas!

Image
Short on time Saturday but lots of action fishing a Texas Pond in Murphy Texas for stocked Rainbow Trout! Forgot the GRHEN we tied the other day but luckily the Olive Near Deere fished under a Corqs Strike Indicator did the trick to catch a limit of trout! Windy day with a slight adjustment in the presentation going from a dead drift to short pulls on the line to get the trout to strike! Fun times….!

Quick Update - March 5, 2018 #flyfishing

Image
Not able to fish today but did get a round in yesterday. Went with the 5wt lined with the OPST Commando Head. Struck out at Murphy in the morning, but did get some great practice in. Later, stopped at Bethany and caught three little Bass on a Purple Damsel Fly, and a bigger one on a White Foam Grasshopper. Editing the video still but here is a quick update…

Trout Fishing Murphy, then One Rod, No Reel! #flyfishing #flycasting

Great time yesterday fishing city of Murphy’s pond – City Complex Park Pond. Limited out after figuring out the pattern… tandem rigged near deere and griffiths’ gnat! Afterwards, able to try the rod, no reel concept and caught several trout. Broke out the action in a second video… check it out at “One Rod, No Reel”.   Follow-on video to our trip to Murphy’s City Complex Park Pond where we test the concept of a quality line and a fly rod for trout fishing, and forego the reel. Used about 8 yards of line, the tandem rig that the trout were going for, and a $19 fly rod… also, fly line is quality line from Scientific Angler. Just picked up a deal when it was on clearance… only $1!

Murphy City Complex Park Pond This Round. #flyfishing

Having done well at Stoney Hollow Park Pond in Plano, decided to fish another pond that we have not fished since last trout stocking season – Murphy City Complex Park Pond in Murphy… just down the road from South Fork where the filmed the show Dallas way back when. Have caught some nice Catfish and Bass but always on bait – especially live Bluegill in the 3″ size. Was hoping the Purple Damsel Fly would get a Bass or two but as it turned out, it was a Bluegill. Switched to a number of fishing flies as well but mojo was off and kept missing strikes or hooking “tree fish”! Did break the streak when a Bluegill went for a Near Deere, and then started “river fishing” for Bluegill by the water fountain; water current being generated did a pretty good job of simulating the current in some rivers we have fished! Afterwards, fished the pier and caught more Bluegill. Was getting ready to call it a trip but decided to tie on the Damsel Fly Variant we ...

Can't Catch Them All...

Quick trip to Murphy City Complex Pond for a go at trout. Had one on the line but lost it using a PMC Emerger. Else, had one Sunfish go for a Guadalupana to save us from striking out. No worries, still a good time fishing!   Can’t catch them all. #flyfishing quick trip gets one #sunfish on a #guadalupana …did get a #trout on the line but lost it while bring it in. Back to Murphy for More Trout This Sunday Morning! #flyfishing #guadalupana

Image
Had a great time yesterday fishing Murphy City Complex Pond for trout. Went back again today with the same setup… Redington Pursuit 4wt-8′ fly rod and Ross Flystart Model 2. Used a size 14 Guadalupana to take a limit today! Fun stuff!     Log Book Entry: 2/26/17 Location: Murphy City Complex Pond (Murphy) Time: 07:30 – 08:30 Weax: Clear, “Sweater & Under Armour”, Slight Breeze Rod: Redington Pursuit 4wt – 8′ Reel: Ross Flystart Model 2 – 4wt Flyline   Comments: Lots of fishermen on arrival at the pond with a good number fly fishing! Action was steady with Super Dupers continuing to produce for spin fishermen. Guadalupana (as well as Wooley Buggers) did well for fly fishermen. Not able to determine bait preferences but it looked like limits were being taken by bait fishermen. Corn, Trout Worms, and Power Bait worked well at yesterday’s derby. Suspect the same held true this round.   Landed: 14 Rainbow Trout – 9″-12″ ...

Success... Action Shots with the Water Wolf Camera!

Image
Only one Catfish but was able to get the action shots we were looking for. Also, was great to see it was fish instead of turtles that were toying with our bait – live Bluegill! Really like being able to get frame by frame snapshots of the Catfish taking the Bluegill. Interesting to see multiple passes were needed before finally taking the bait. Also, was a nice surprise to see a Bass was also interested in the same bait. As for the other action shots taken, was very good to see Bass and Catfish were trying to take our bait; previously had thought the turtles were the culprits! Fun stuff!

Quick Trip This Afternoon....

Hope to go for a quick trip to Murphy this afternoon for Trout. Going to try a new fishing fly tied in tandem with a Patriot Fishing Fly as an indicator. It’s called a “Green Weenie”.  More to come… also, do check our Twitter timeline in the sidebar. Should see tweets on the Green Weenie as well as updates while we head out in a few. Update 8PM: Made it to Murphy but struck out on the Rainbow Trout. Saw others catching them but only managed two Bluegill. Trout were feeding on the surface on something that was hatching. Still a great time getting out of the office! PS: Game Warden was checking licenses, so be sure to have your’s at the ready when fishing. Here is one of the two Bluegill caught on the #fishing quick trip to Murphy this afternoon. pic.twitter.com/qgrviRy58J — StockerTroutFishing (@iFishRadio) February 26, 2016

Murphy for Trout This Round

Image
Checked out the derby hosted by the city of Murphy this morning. Saw lots of kids catching fish; us grownups had to wait till after the derby to fish. Warm weather was nice allowing for short sleeves and shorts. But, it looked like the Trout were having issues as a number of them were floating upside down and were dead or dying. Also, noticed schools of Trout cruising parallel to the shoreline and largely ignoring lures and baits. Last time we saw them acting like this, it was two years ago at Frisco Commons Pond. The weather was cold and the Trout seemed disoriented and cruising in schools parallel to the shoreline as well. We were able to get them to strike by working a fishing fly parallel to the shore. Although a school would ignore the fishing fly, every so often one would breakaway and chase and strike the fishing fly. Same held true today at Murphy! This round the Trout went for the Mardi Gras Near Deere. Caught two and lost one. Then, the bite slowed. Started switching fishing ...
