Cold front rolled in and temps drop and rain rolled in. Gave it a week and things warmed and rains quit. Made a run to the lake for jug lining fun. Three of us this round, took the Jon Boat and the Kayak. No Shad to catch with the cast net. Bought some at a bait shop, pricey but they do work well for Catfish! Managed three Catfish and a Gar. Did get a few strikes and misses, then things slowed more. Decided to call it a trip… fun times!

Steps detailed n the video… Team decided to fish Denison Dam Saturday July 27, 2019 using fly fishing gear and spinning gear. Able to arrive at first light and catch a few small Striped Bass before they started generating power. Once they started generating, headed downstream and we managed to catch a Bass and a Gar, else no more Stripers. Overall a fun time on the Red River fishing Denison Dam! Striped Bass were caught with a crankbait Rattle Trap or a Clouser Minnow. Gar went for Shad; the Bass went for a Clouser Minnow!

Made it back to Bratonia for more jug lining. Caught six Catfish, largest went ~8 lbs!  Also, caught a little Gar on a jug line, and a Gaspergou with the cast net. Windy day with most of the morning spent trying to get Shad with the cast net.  Did get a couple of Catfish later in the morning as well as lose a couple more.  Later, near Noon the bite picked up and were able to get four more in the boat! Fun time working jug lines for Catfish!

After a delayed start Saturday morning – still had work things to resolve, we headed out for Texoma. Since Cabelas was on the way, we re-newed our Lake Texoma fishing licenses and picked up a new PFD for Nuclaroche. Good deal on the life jackets that were on sale – 30% off the ticketed price! As we headed up 75 North, we debated about where to “put in” the kayaks, but after a short pros/cons discussion we decided on Highport Marina just North of Pottsboro. The rocky shoreline near the Marina has been a consistent producer for us and the Islands where we had great action last year are readily accessible from the Marina. When we arrived at Highport Marina, we heard music in the background coming from the Island Restaurant; it looked like a special event (maybe a boat show) was ongoing.
