Fishing Fly Give Away - Guadalupana... #flyfishing

Image
For this round, we are switching it up and giving away two Guadalupana Fishing Flies – a variant of the original pattern. This one is tied smaller than the original and use two peacock herls instead of three. It has been effective on stocked trout when we fished local ponds during the TPWD Trout Stocking Season as well as the year round fishery on the Guadalupe River where the pattern originated. Do join us in this Fishing Fly Give Away! Simple Rules: Post a comment to this video US Mailing Address Valid Email to verify the winner Start: August 26, 2019 @8PM Central End: September 2, 2019 @8PM Central Winner to be announced September 2, randomly selected by the TubeBuddy random selection tool! Bass On Fly This Past Easter Sunday! #flyfishing #bass

Image
Quick trips to two ponds this past Easter Sunday – Sonic Pond and the Lower Pond at Bethany Lakes. Caught a couple of Bass using the Guadalupana and the PMOT – Purple Marabou Orange Thing. Did have a nice one on the line briefly but lost it. Overall, great time fishing on a real nice day!

Quick Tie Guadalupana #flytying #guadalupana

Image
Here is a quick tie demo of how we tie the Guadalupana. Uses minimal material, and is simple to tie. Works on trout, bass, and bluegill. Do give it a try, and do keep guessing on our Fishing Fly Give Away of two Guadalupana fishing flies. One tied with a Palmer Hackle. Other with a Dry Fly Hackle. Both on size 8 streamer hooks. See more and comment in our video posted on our channel! PS: Do see more details on how to tie the pattern at COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly.

DIY Tube Popper Fly #flytying #popper

Image
Finally got the video edited… it’s the DIY Tube Popper Fly that we used the other day at Stoney Hollow Pond. The version we used at the pond was painted yellow. These are painted white. (This one is a variant of an earlier one we tied… Tube Popper Fly). Also, used the Mini-Balsa Wood Lathe we made several years ago along with a tube tying attachment on an old vise we keep just for making tube flies. Lathe is not required, can be shaped by had using hand tools and sand paper. Do check it out and give it a try fishing them on your local ponds this Season! Out and About Sunday Morning Pond Fishing! #coaffieldteam

Image
[UPDATE: Added the video of the evening round below and a link to google maps. Pond is in Fairview on Fairview Parkway.] Started Sunday morning with a swing and miss at the “Pond Behind In-N-Out Burger”. Tried the usual spots without a strike, but did see a nice Bass along the bank… that is, did spook a nice Bass! Windy and cold but not ready to call it a morning, decided to move to another spot just down the road… it’s the pond along Angel Parkway. Forgot its name; calling Angel Parkway Pond for ease of reference. Windy and cold still, did not plan to fish for long. But, then got a bite on the PMOT… turned out to be a nice Bluegill! Stuck it out for longer, even after losing the PMOT… snapped it off while casting. Switched to a Muddler Minnow, hoping for a repeat like yesterday where a Bass took it as it was “sputtering” just under the water’s surface. No luck! Was about ready to head home, but decided on “one more cast...

Dry Fly Hackle Wrap Works Well with Near Deere Too!

More fly tying this evening with two more Guadalupana to add to the others. While tying them, decided to tie a couple of Near Deere using the same Dry Fly Hackle Wrap as the Guadalupana. Looks good, may have to sneak away tomorrow and try them on trout at one of the recently stocked ponds in our area!   Been using the dry fly hackle wrap #flytying #guadalupana #fishingflies …decided to try it on #neardeere …looked good. Now gotta fish them! A post shared by COAF Field Team (@coaf.field.team) on Mar 3, 2017 at 6:05pm PST

More Guadalupana Fishing Flies...! #flytying

Busy work day; no fishing but did get a couple more Guadalupanas tied to add to the others! That said, the weekend is near and the Team is still uncertain where to fish. Will be playing it by ear but next weekend, TRWD Flyfest is next Saturday. Looking really good that we will be there! Fun times to be had!   More #flytying #guadalupana #fishingflies this evening. Adding to the others tied the other day! A post shared by COAF Field Team (@coaf.field.team) on Mar 2, 2017 at 9:11pm PST

Back to Murphy for More Trout This Sunday Morning! #flyfishing #guadalupana

Image
Had a great time yesterday fishing Murphy City Complex Pond for trout. Went back again today with the same setup… Redington Pursuit 4wt-8′ fly rod and Ross Flystart Model 2. Used a size 14 Guadalupana to take a limit today! Fun stuff!     Log Book Entry: 2/26/17 Location: Murphy City Complex Pond (Murphy) Time: 07:30 – 08:30 Weax: Clear, “Sweater & Under Armour”, Slight Breeze Rod: Redington Pursuit 4wt – 8′ Reel: Ross Flystart Model 2 – 4wt Flyline   Comments: Lots of fishermen on arrival at the pond with a good number fly fishing! Action was steady with Super Dupers continuing to produce for spin fishermen. Guadalupana (as well as Wooley Buggers) did well for fly fishermen. Not able to determine bait preferences but it looked like limits were being taken by bait fishermen. Corn, Trout Worms, and Power Bait worked well at yesterday’s derby. Suspect the same held true this round.   Landed: 14 Rainbow Trout – 9″-12″ ...

Fly Tying This Evening... #flytying

Did some fly tying this evening in preparation for tomorrow. Hope to see if these fishing flies produce. Opted for Near Deer, variants of the Guadalupana, and a PMC Emerger variant – the PMC GNE! Hope they work on the trout!   #flytying this evening… opted for #neardeere #guadalupana and #pmcemerger variant! Hope they work #flyfishing for #trout tomorrow! COAF Guadalupana #flytying

Image
While fishing in Frisco this past weekend, we met one of our Readers who asked about the Guadalupana fishing fly that we used while fishing the Guadalupe River several seasons ago. Has been awhile since we tied one but we do recall it was an effective fishing fly for us, working on the trout on the Guadalupe River, stocker trout in our local ponds, and Bass in the Spring and Summer months. Having reminded us about the fishing fly, we decided to tie a couple. This round we used the dry fly hackle wrap instead of the palmer hackle wrap that we showed in our article, “COAF Guadalupana Fishing Fly” . Both work well in a given situation, but just in case, we like to have them both in our fly box! Do give them a try when you get a chance! Palmer Hackle Wrap

COAF Field Team Vlog #9 "Caught a Nice Catfish using a Micro Flyrod"

Image
Another Vlog filmed in the field. This round we decided on a quick trip to Celebration Park to try some Micro Fishing with the two-piece Micro Flyrod. Started out using small fishing flies – Rainbow Warrior and an Olive Midge, but later switched to a Guadalupana . While catching the little Bluegill, we noticed larger fish chasing baitfish in the shallows. Hoping for a chance at hooking one, tied on a Guadalupana. Caught a Bluegill soon after and then had a surprise when a Bruiser Catfish took the fishing fly and ran the reel to the backing. The Micro Flyrod did well and we were able to land the Catfish – estimated about 18″ in length. Fun stuff on ultralight gear! PS: Posted the Catfish on the Fishing Bulletin Board !

Guadalupana at Bethany This Round

Image
Had an opportunity to get a round of fishing in at Bethany Lakes this evening. Went with the Four Weight Fly Rod/Reel and only one fishing fly – the COAF Guadalupana . Two Bluegill went for the fishing fly followed by two fingerling Bass. Later, a Sunfish in the Canal took the fishing fly. Then, the remainder were Bass – two from the Lower Pond and five from the Main pond. Total count this round – two Bluegill, one Sunfish, nine Bass, and a Happy Fisherman! Still no Bruisers; still lots of fun. Bream Getter Cabela's Fiberglass CGR Fly Rod Rooster Tail Inline Spinners Mepps Trout Kit
