More GoFish Cam Fish Scouting at the local pond. Was sidetracked from scouting for fish with the GoFish Cam when five hot air balloons were passing by. One seemed to be low but quickly climbed higher. Still learning the GoFish Cam but am liking the ability to scout likely areas holing fish. This round added a plastic tube to keep the baited hook from landing close to the lens and blocking our view of the area… seems to work. Mainly Bluegill and Sunfish again, but did get a glimpse of a Bass passing by! Do check back for more GoFish Cam Fish Scouting!
More info on Possum Kingdom! With the lake full and the flow good we caught almost trout till July this year up by the dam. Many had put on serious weight hope the lake stays full again this year. Tends to be best on the coldest days and a week or so after stocking. (Helps the crowd and let's new fish get acclimated) Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums
Back to a local pond that I have not fished for in awhile to “test” the Martin Fly Fishing Combo sold in a kit by Amazon. Using a Muddler Minnow that came with the kit. It’s beaten up but still catches fish. Lots of fun, and got a new idea for the next video in the series where I use only 32 feet of line to fish. The intent… you don’t need to cast long distances to catch fish to get started fly fishing! Stay tuned for more!
Was out fishing a local creek earlier this week. Caught a few Bluegill with the 2wt flyrod but was wanting for the tenkara rod as the creek was lined with brush and offered minimal access as well as casting room. Lots of roll casting and switch casting was the key. Unfortunately, lost the video… deleted it by accident. No worries, trip triggered your’s truly to search online for tenkara sales… and with luck, found Tenkara USA was offering a 30% discount on their rods. Nice! Noted the Iwana Tenkara Rod that we have been eyeing for several years was at our price point… $119 plus $14 for shipping. Order is in… now waiting for delivery. While we wait, will take out the old Tenkara Rod and wet a line or two. Due check back on updates on our Tenkara adventures!
Been itching to test the DIY Tanago Rod we made using an Ice Fishing Rod blank and a Wine Cork. Looks like it works on the little Bluegill and Sunfish. Next step is to try catching a little minnow!
Made adjustments with the GoFish Cam and rigging it for underwater video action shots when scouting local ponds for fish. Liking it but do need to make more adjustments to keep it level and floating upright. With a little more tweaking, should be able to get it where we like it. Do check out the video – left the underwater footage as is other than clipping out the reeling in and out of the camera. Fun stuff!
Rainy day, so what better way to spend a moment checking out the latest Feather Craft Catalog. Got reeled in and bought a foam ant tying kit that makes 24 foam ants like the Betts version. And then, bought the Hopper/Stone-fly Foam Cutter in size 10. Going to use them to make the Foam Grasshopper that we cut by hand. This should makes things goa little quicker. It’s a Stonefly pattern but plan to reverse the foam body so the narrow end is to the rear of the hook and the wider end is toward the front by the hook’s eye. Should make for some loud popping noises. So far, been liking the Beavertail and Damsel/Dragon Fly Cutters… this should do double duty for Grasshoppers and Stone-flies! Will post a pic of how they turnout once the package arrives!
Look like another Saturday with two Trout Derbies planned – McKinney Towne Lake and Murphy City Complex Pond . Should be a fun day with the kids! McKinney Trout Derby Murphy Rainbow Round Up
