On a Whim, Micro Fishing... Kiyotaki 18 (TBT to January 14, 2015)

Burning the midnight oil this evening, the day job is quickly becoming the all day and night job. Regardless, I am done and have shifted over to more important things... FISHING! And, what better way to shift focus from work to fishing then to mindlessly surf the web for fishing information. Normally, I check out the Texas Fishing Forum, several fishing blogs, and YouTube fishing videos. This time, not sure how but I landed on a website called Micro Fishing. It's a website that is all about catching small minnow-sized fish using "micro-gear". Sounds interesting, so, on a whim, I decided to give it a try. First step, or more an excuse to get another fishing rod, I ordered a Micro Fishing Rod from TenkaraBum's web store. The model I ordered was a Kiyotaki 18. iFishNews Fishing Podcast #3 - Tenkara Fishing in Close Quarters?

Image
A follow-on video and podcast of our recent trip Tenkara Fishing a creek. In this fishing podcast, we talk about lessons learned tenkara fishing in close quarters where brush and overhead branches limit the use of fly fishing gear and have clobbered our back cast. Easily remedied with a fly rod and switch and roll casts, we wanted to try fishing with a tenkara rod… a 12′ tenkara rod lined with 12′ of fly line and 3′ of leader and tippet. We learned that the tenkara rod worked well fishing the creek especially the use of the “bow and arrow” cast. We also learned that shortening the fly line to 6′ would help in working the fly under the overhang branches in the creek. Do check out the podcast – be it the video or listen in at iFishNews.com to the podcast version of it!
