What I Did To Limit Out on Trout... Five Steps! [2-23-2022]

Image
Originally published February 23, 2022 This round I demonstrate the five steps I follow that helped me limit out on Trout. Do give it a try, and let us know how it worked for you! Step 1 - Observe Where are the trout lurking? What are others doing that is/isn't working? Step 2 - What worked before? Try lures and retrieves that worked from past trips Do the same, else try varying the presentation Step 3 - What is Different? Did something change - warmer, colder? Has the wind changed? Step 4 - Give them what they want! Try different lures Change the retrieve Note any indication of a strike Step 5 - Catch a limit! Once you catch one, repeat If the bite stops, adjust by changing lures again Gear Used Shimano Reel 17 Scorpion BFS XG Right BPS Micro Lite Rod Wordens 3206-S103 Rooster Tail in-Line Spinner 3 Pack, Sz 1/16OZ Luhr Jensen Super Duper

Turner Falls Fly Fishing - November 28, 2018

Image
Trip 2 of 3 fishing Turner Falls Park in Oklahoma for Rainbow Trout. This round was tougher; started the day fishing downriver, then moved upriver later. Able to limit out, even did a “Hank Patterson” move when the fly reel fell off the fly rod while fishing… LOL! Goto 28:00 in the video to see that moment! OPST Commando Head was key again today. No wet wading though, brought the wading pants this time. PS: Echo Ion Fly Reels rock… a quick rinse in the river after dropping it, and was back in business fishing! Limited Out at Bethany Again Today...! #troutfishing

Made it to Bethany Lakes shortly after Noon today. Fished for about two hours and limited out. Caught three using a silver Kastmaster on a fast retrieve like we used the other day. Yesterday used Kastmaster in the 1/12oz size but lost them to snags. Picked up two more from Walmart but in the 1/8oz size. Used them today with no issue. After catching three, went to the Switch Rod and tried various fishing flies; kept changing flies until a consistent pattern was found. Results were… White Near Deere took one with several missed hooksets and one lost while lifting it up the high bank Prince Nymph took one and more missed hooksets Muddler Minnow had several takes but none landed GRHEN had three landed and numerous missed hooksets Overall, GRHEN was the consistent pattern! Later, decided to mix it up and grill today’s catch instead of frying them. Used a recipe posted online. Tasty meal!   #troutfishing today geta a limit using #kastmasters and #fishingflies …now #chil...

Griffith's Gnat on a Caddis Hook Keeps Working...! #flyfishing #trout

Image
Fished the Griffith’s Gnat on a caddis hook on Monday at Waterloo and was able to get a limit. Fished the same fishing fly at Bethany on Tuesday and limited out too! Monday we tried fly fishing an ultralight spinning gear. After trying different fishing flies, came back to the fishing fly that worked for us last time we fished Waterloo – the COAF Griffith’s Gnat . This time the trout wanted movement in the fishing fly and soon was able to limit out with five trout. For the ultralight spinning gear, we tried Super Dupers and Power Bait. Was able to land two using Power Bait. Did hook but lose two while landing them. Also, had one strike on a Power Worm. Tuesday with the weather being so nice, decided to fish Bethany. Was not sure how the trout were biting as the Cormorant have been feeding on them. However, we lucked out – the trout were biting! For us, sight casting to passing schools of trout and then slowly dragging the fishing fly in the water was triggering s...

One More Round at Waterloo!

Image
2015-2016 Trout Stocking Season is nearing an end. Decided to make one more trip to Waterloo for Rainbow Trout. Was able to limit out using a Tandem Rig – Near Deere and Griffiths Gnat before the wind kicked up. Left them biting but had to work hard for the last one.
