Fished the Lower Illinois River Saturday for the first time. There are trout to be caught. Even better it is a year-round fishery in Oklahoma! Do give it a shot in the near future!
Tested out a new fly pattern – no name for it yet. Caught a Bass and lost a Bass, then switched to damsel flies and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish. Will tweak the new fly pattern more, and “test” it out again. Was good to see lots of fish near shore in their beds. Looked like the bigger Bluegill were further out from shore this year. Regardless, makes for some good fly casting practice for distance… Fun stuff!
Rainy day, so did not plan to go fishing. Ran some errands and ended up having drinks at Mash’d in Plano. Fun time…even got a quick trip in at Bethany Lakes. Struck out but did get some great practice fly casting. For now, going to relive past fishing trips… in this case, kayak fishing on Texoma! rain is gone, still no #fishing …bummed, but getting #mashed at #mashd …hee, hee! Our favorite kayak fishing method is simple and requires no special gear other than what you may already have on hand! It calls for anchoring your kayak near a lake point, and then fishing with shad. Let the fish come to you! Check out the video and do give it a try! #kayak #anchor #shad
Great report from LMF! Mckinneycrappiecatcher: Re: Lower Mt Fork River - Fishing Guide Report with Video and Pictures This weekend was absolutely epic in beavers bend. cody (txpacker4) and I could only manage one walleye Friday night, but Saturday all heck broke loose, we caught smallies, spotted bass, trout, sandies, bluegill, and to top it off, a two man limit of both walleye and crappie. All were caught on the fly rod on neer deer flies. Mostly throwing it out 3' deep under an indicator and twitching it back to me. Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums
Posted an earlier video that shows the items we like to keep at the ready in our kayak fishing jacket. As a follow-up, decided to grab the jacket and show the items we currently have pocketed away like… a whistle, extra line, multi-tool, etc! Do check it out!

It’s live on Amazon! A fishing journal designed specifically for the Fly Fisherman. The journal provides guidelines for capturing specific data useful to Fly Fishing and will improve your fishing catch success rate. Included is a customizable Summary section to collate lessons learned about best patterns, locations, techniques, etc.
Tested out a new pattern… a Bent Back Clouser Variant. This one uses a weighted keel instead of dumbbell eyes or bead chain, and the hook shank is bent back slightly. Worked well today at Sonic Pond! Tried it at Bethany Lakes, yesterday with some success. Today was much better. Used a larger hook and flashy chenille instead of flashy tinsel. Stay tuned for the fly tying demo on how to tie one!
Received a three month subscription to the Mystery Tackle Box! First box delivered. Let’s open it up and see what is inside! I chose the Panfish and Trout package as the last time I had a subscription there were some great lures that I consider perfect for BFS ultralight fishing!
