Semi-Old School Today

Went “semi-old school today” and fished with an old Olympic Fiberglass Fly Rod and a newer Echo Ion Fly Reel. Rod was purchased from Oshman’s in Corpus Christi back in 1978. Echo Ion Fly Reel was picked up from Cabela’s in Allen in 2015. Started out fishing the Bent Back Clouser Variant that we used at the pond by Sonic yesterday. Had Bass looking but not striking for some reason. Did notice the “green stuff” is growing, so switched to a Foam Damsel Fly and hooked up with a Bass and a Bluegill!

Revenge of the Urbanites

Good read for those interested… Lovfldx: Revenge of the Urbanites Got off work a little early today, so naturally, took off to Bachman. fished the airport side, only caught one dink, but 3 decent hookups with respectable bass. Took off to the Lower Bachman Creek, and immediately got into some spotted bass, and one misplaced crappie. Got about 10 decent spots. Moved to WRC, upper end, looking for spawning sandies, it is apparently over there. Saw one bass in 5 lb range on a bed, and more carp than i care to talk about. water crystal clear. One huge orange koi cruising with the carp. Back to Bachman, Denton Drive levee. As I was pulling into rec ctr pkg lot, my old crappie fishing buddy, Bobby pulled up. He has been tearing up largemouths all over the lake on big flukes. We walked to Levee together. He sets up in one spot, I move maybe 20 yds down from him. FIRST CAST, BOOM A Massive monster female bass, easily 7-8 lbs, maybe more, annihilates my Rainbow Trout color...

Bent Back Clouser Variant Worked!

Image
Tested out a new pattern… a Bent Back Clouser Variant. This one uses a weighted keel instead of dumbbell eyes or bead chain, and the hook shank is bent back slightly. Worked well today at Sonic Pond! Tried it at Bethany Lakes, yesterday with some success. Today was much better. Used a larger hook and flashy chenille instead of flashy tinsel. Stay tuned for the fly tying demo on how to tie one!

Rowlett Creek 2016 - Limit this morning!

Someone limited out this morning in an hour and a half! Nice! CatfishBilly: Re: Rowlett Creek 2016 Been down here for an hour & a half & we already caught our limit.   Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums

Three This Time!

Image
Made it back to Bethany Lakes after work this evening. Only three Bass this time; still a great time. Was testing out a Bent Back Clouser Variant – this one uses a weighted keel and no dumbbell or bead chain eyes. Weighted keel is enough to sink the Clouser. Also, use Craft Fur instead of Deer Hair; tied the Craft Fur sparse, and then wrapped the hook/keel with holographic tinsel. Two Bass went for the Bent Back Clouser Variant; one Bass went for a Mardi Gras Near Deere. Did lose a nice one that went for the Bent Back Clouser Variant. Oh well, good excuse to go fishing again!

Bethany Lakes

Morning bite was slow but the afternoon picked up at Bethany Lakes. Bass were going for a Bent Damsel Fly and a Mardis Gras Near Deere!

Too Nice a Day; Went Fishing

Image
Morning started out cold, overcast, and windy. Braved the conditions and managed to catch one little Bass and lose two others at Bethany Lakes. Later, noticed the sun was out and temps were much better than the morning. So, decided to return to Bethany Lakes in the afternoon. Used a variant of the COAF Damsel Fly – we bent back the hook like we learned from the TRWD Flyfest Fly Tying demo of the Bent Back Clouser. It worked well, but ended up losing the two fishing flies we had to “tree fish”. Switched to a Mardis Gras Near Deere; fish continued to strike at it. Water was clear and polarized glasses were key especially with one bass caught on it’s bed and another bass that required repeated casts to finally catch itas it kept turning away at the last moment. Ended the afternoon with one Bluegill and thirteen Bass. Most were small but was a great time fishing on a really nice day!

Community Lakes - Bethany

Great update on Bethany Lakes… McKinneyLonghorn: Re: Community Lakes Originally Posted By: semicole How is it right now at Bethany as windy as it is? The wind makes things difficult but if you can get the lure to the fish they will bite. Best bet is to find places that are out of the wind, which is not too difficult with all the trees and buildings scattered around the park.   Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums
