Trout Fishing Rowlett Community Park... #flyfishing #troutfishing

Fished Rowlett Community Park Pond Saturday. Been a while since we last fished the pond but luckily, had Google Maps to guide us there. Still have to pass through a subdivision to access the park. Else, it remains as we remembered it… baseball fields, a landfill, and two ponds. Brought the 4wt flyrod with the Trout Max Shooting Head and SlickShooter mono running line. Also, setup with an olive Near Deere set 4′ below a strike indicator. For the spinning gear, used Corn and Power Bait rigged with a simple split shot as well as a carolina-rig when the strikes were extremely light. Also, tried a Super Duper, too. Bite was slow with one big Shad foul-hooked on the Near Deere, and no fish taken with bait or with the Super Duper. Stuck it out for about an hour and half, then moved around looking for activity. Luckily, action picked up in a cove near a feeder creek. In short order had trout striking the Near Deere. Limited out with five, and released two others. Also, saw one fishe...

Tying the Olive Near Deere... #flytying #neardeere

Short video clip sped up to demo how we tie the Olive Near Deere – the fishing fly we used to limit out at a local pond this morning. Still working the video of the trout action, more to come! For now, do keep this fishing fly handy! PS: Playing a little Shakey Graves’ Roll the Bones in the background… Liking this artist!

Lower Mountain Fork River: 2014 - 2017 #lowermountainfork #beaversbend

Here is a collection of fishing videos starting with our first fishing trip to the Lower Mountain Fork River in Oklahoma in 2014 and ending with our last one on August of 2017. Mainly fished the Beavers Bend State Park – specifically, the Evening Hole, Cold Hole, and Spillway Creek. Of note were the changes to the river due to several floods that changed the landscape and redirected the river itself. Still was good to get out there over the years, and we do hope to return again in 2018!

Water Wolf Camera - 2017... #waterwolfcamera

Work week is winding down; heard rain is in the forecast but still have fishing rods at the ready for any opportunity to we a line. For now, put a video playlist of the tinkering we did with the Water Wolf Camera last year. Do check them out…   This one shows how turtles can steal your bait without getting hooked! Camera we used…

COAF Field Team Member Name Change... All-Righty! #handle

Image
Finally added the COAF Field Team to the back of our fishing hat! That said, to mark the occasion, one of the Field Team Members has opted for a name change of his “handle” or nickname. Fshng84 in the spirit of famous fly fishermen Lefty Kreh and Lefty Ray has changed his handle to “All-Righty” for two reasons… Since he is a right-handed fisherman, “Righty” kinda worked. It also sounded like the opposite of Lefty… then one of the other Team members kept noting Fshng84’s tendency to say, “alrighty” in videos as well as every day conversation. Therefore, with an added L and the hyphen, Fshng84 changed his handle to “All-Righty” as of January 22, 2018! All-Righty!

Trinity River Trout Stocking....!

Quick Trip to Bethany Lakes... #flyfishing #neardeere

Quick trip fly fishing Bethany Lakes this morning. Caught only a little Bass but was good to get out and get some fly casting practice in with the 4wt rod and the Trout Max Shooting Head. Still getting used to the slippery mono running line… still liking the extra distance though! The little Bass went for an orange Near Deere… Quick trip #flyfishing #bethanylakes …only one little #bass on a #neardeere …still good to wet a line! Corn or Power Bait... Underwater Video of Trout #waterwolfcamera #troutfishing

Fished Waterloo Park Pond Sunday 14 January. Two of us limited out on trout! Used Power Bait and Corn and took some video of the Trout reacting to the baits… looked like Corn won out this round! Water was clearer then the last time we fished the little pond. Was able to get an idea what the Trout were doing to the baits… which prompted us to use the Light Lining Technique to catch them! Fun stuff!

Light Lining with Corn for Trout... #ultralightspinning #troutfishing

Image
Limited out at Waterloo Park Pond on trout but used a light lining technique as the trout were picky! For bait, tried Power Bait but soon learned the trout wanted corn instead. Video below demos the light lining technique; rig used was a split shot set a foot from a size 12 hook. Light lining calls for using a small split shot that does not sink too fast when cast. In the video, we cast the rig, count to 4 or 5, then make a couple of turns on the reel to take up slack, and then watch our rig drift in the current. We repeat this until we feel the trout nipping at our bait, then we maintain line control while we watch our line. If the line slackens, the trout is running in on us and we will take up the slack but not set the hook immediately. If the line tightens, then the trout is moving away and we will give line and continue to wait to set the hook. Timing the hook set will vary, some times the trout will commit to the bait shortly after the initial bite. Other times, the trout will bi...

Fishing Addiction #8 - "Selective Memory Syndrome"

Image
Been a while since we last posted on our Fishing Addiction Series. Normally, we post videos on our YouTube Channel – see below for Fishing Addiction #1 – #7. This round for Fishing Addiction #8, we put pencil and paper in hand and decided to relive our childhood “stickman” drawings. Fishing Addiction #8 refers to “Selective Memory Syndrome” when said Fishing Addict can recall anything fishing related like when a hatch will start and what fishing fly to use on a given river, GPS coordinates of a Super Secret Fishing Spot, or where a Bruiser fish lurks… but something simple as an errand for his significant other seems to forgotten! “May they never find a cure… Fishing Addiction”

Lost Maples State Park Report.... #troutfishing

Image
Received a report from one of our Readers who fished Lost Maples State Park today and despite the cold and windy conditions, a limit of trout was had! One went for an Olive Near Deere and two went for a Guadalupana. The remainder went for a gold Panther Martin spinner. Great report!   #flytying #fishingflies this evening. went with a #guadalupana and two #neardeere to make a sample set! Catch N' Cook Trout! #troutfishing #waterwolfcamera #catchandcook

Image
Action Saturday, January 6 where we fished Waterloo Park in Denison,TX to catch trout for a Catch N’ Cook video requested by one of our Readers. Key bait was Corn. ower Bait worked but the trout really bit on the corn.  Also, caught a couple on the fly using the Micro Flyrod and a Guadalupana! Do check out our Catch and Cook video on our Channel! We clean and cook stocker sized trout by either cutting their heads and gutting them or removing their gills and then gutting them. Cooking them is simple… sprinkle the trout with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Let marinate in the the fridge for about an hour or two, and then pan fry in a cast iron skillet. When done, apply Season Salt to taste, and then “fillet” them with a fork after they are cooked. Simple recipe! Trout at Waterloo for Catch N’ Cook Preps…   Trout Catch N’ Cook Trout…
