Trout Fishing Rowlett Community Park... #flyfishing #troutfishing

Fished Rowlett Community Park Pond Saturday. Been a while since we last fished the pond but luckily, had Google Maps to guide us there. Still have to pass through a subdivision to access the park. Else, it remains as we remembered it… baseball fields, a landfill, and two ponds.

Brought the 4wt flyrod with the Trout Max Shooting Head and SlickShooter mono running line. Also, setup with an olive Near Deere set 4′ below a strike indicator. For the spinning gear, used Corn and Power Bait rigged with a simple split shot as well as a carolina-rig when the strikes were extremely light. Also, tried a Super Duper, too.

Bite was slow with one big Shad foul-hooked on the Near Deere, and no fish taken with bait or with the Super Duper. Stuck it out for about an hour and half, then moved around looking for activity.

Luckily, action picked up in a cove near a feeder creek. In short order had trout striking the Near Deere. Limited out with five, and released two others. Also, saw one fisherman land a nice Catfish!

Fun stuff with the added bonus of the trout being larger than ones caught a Bethany Lakes and Waterloo!

Was out fishing a local creek earlier this week. More on Squaw Creek…     Littlefeather: Re: Squaw Creek Tilapia I've not been to Squaw since Winter but caught a whole box of Tilapia and big channel cats. Squaw is the hottest water lake I've ever fished so Winter really pays off! Generally in the warmer months almost every fish in the lake goes as far up the river as they can go so they escape the hot power plant water circulating. Sometime you can just step from one boat to the next to the next up the river in the Summer. I wouldn't think the bank fishing areas would be very good right now but January and February should be non-stop action. We generally just use a slip float, small hook, and regular old worms. Cold Morning at Bethany... "Green Trout Anyone" #flyfishing

The “illusive Green Trout” Was going for Rainbow Trout at Bethany Lakes this morning but was not able to catch any. Did catch a Shellcracker and two Bass aka “Green Trout”! Caught the fish using an Olive Near Deere. Did get two Trout to strike a Griffith’s Gnat but was not able to set the hook fast enough. Trout were in the pond and were actively feeding on the surface after about 8AM. However, wind and cold as well as the well positioned trees to hinder a back cast made it hard to cast where the fish were lurking. Cold morning but still had fun!

Rain in the forecast and tied up with work related things. No worries, got a round of fly tying in to start the weekend. Opted for more Olive Dear Deere and San Juan Worm Balls.
