Lake Level Is Up...!

Image
With all the rain over the past weeks, Lake Lavon was just short by 2 feet of pool on Saturday. By Sunday, it hit pool! That said, more boat ramps are open on the lake. As we wait for Trout Stocking Season to arrive later this year, we plan to do more jug lining and kayak fishing during the Spring and Summer. To kick things off, we headed to Ticky Creek Park to do some jug lining Saturday. When we arrived, we noticed the boat ramp was looking really good. Much easier to launch the jon boat! After setting the jon boat into the water, threw the cast net several times. Did not catch any Shad. Good thing we stopped for bait – frozen Shad and Night Crawlers. Slow action Saturday with a lot of bait stolen by what we think were little Catfish and possibly Yellow Bass. We did catch three Keepers and let go several undersized Catfish. Sunday afternoon, I decided to go it alone and put in the kayak at Ticky Creek Park. Intent was to explore around as well as catch maybe one of the little fish th

Fished the Guadalupe River this Round

Image
Fished the Guadalupe River this round. We were targeting Bass and Panfish but struck out. Worked several pools down river from the tail race using a strike indicator and a Near Deere. After a while, went up river and fished the tail race. First tried the area by a big tree in the River. Had a strike on the first cast but missed it. Kept at it for about 30″ but did not get anymore hits. So, crossed over to the other side, and fished the seams, pockets, and the deep pool. After a couple of light strikes, managed to finally hook up with a Rainbow Trout! Did lose another as well but overall had a great time on the Guadalupe River!

COAF Damsel Fly Works, Too!

Image
Tied a White COAF Foam Damsel Fly and fished Kroger Park this morning. Saw several nice looking Bass chasing bait fish in the shallows but none wanted the fishing fly. Luckily, the little Bass and one Bluegill really liked the fly! Posted a couple of pictures of two below and a video clip of today’s action! PS: Checked out Bethany this evening; managed to hook up with four Bass.  All went for the COAF Foam Damsel Fly!

Grasshopper Does Well Again

Image
Headed to Bethany Lakes this evening. Grasshopper did well again. Caught Bluegill, Sunfish, and Bass in the Canal, Lower Pond, Main Pond, and Back Pond. Wind was strong and later the temps dropped slightly as a cool front rolled in. Lots of fun!

Simple Micro Fishing Size 22 Dry Flies

Image
After missing quite a few little fish that were feeding on insects hovering just over the water’s surface, decided to make a simple micro fishing dry fly that would “hover” just above the water. Using a size 22 dry fly hook, dacron tying thread, and a grizzly hackle, made the tail and hackle longer to create the “hover” effect. Hope to try them out this week and see if the smaller size hook and the “hover” makes a difference. Crossing our fingers! Simple Micro Fishing Size 22 Dry Fly

DIY Tanago Rod

Image
More tinkering around with ice fishing rod components. For ease of reference, calling it the Do It Yourself (DIY) Tanago Rod. Going to use it for Micro Fishing; hopefully to catch one of those “guppy” looking fish! Easy to make… used a 20″ solid fiberglass ice fishing rod, a 12″ wooden handle, and a braided cord for the lillian. Add some 2 pound test mono – smallest line in the tackle box, ready to try it out!
