Gone Fishin'... "slack line" technique #waterlooparkpond #denison

Cold and windy Sunday – Christmas Eve… what did we do? Went fishing for trout at Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. Tried catching them with our fly rods but no go, trout were not taking fishing flies or lures. They did not want corn or salmon eggs. The key today was Power Bait – Rainbow Glitter Dough Bait and Pink Trout Nuggets, fished using either a Carolina Rig or the simple split shot and hook rig we use when our hands are cold. (for more on the rigs we use, see our article, “Power Bait Fishing Rigs for Rainbow Trout“.

Temps were in the 30s and climbed up to low 40s but the wind was killer and we did not bring gloves. In short order, we went to the “don’t hold the rod because we need to keep our hands in our pocket slack line technique”. Three of us fished, three of us limited out… one limited in 30″, yours truly limited in an hour, and the last one limited out in an hour and a half.

Overall, had a great time on a cold and windy day doing what we like… fishing! Merry Christmas!
