Murphy City Complex Park Pond This Round. #flyfishing

Having done well at Stoney Hollow Park Pond in Plano, decided to fish another pond that we have not fished since last trout stocking season – Murphy City Complex Park Pond in Murphy… just down the road from South Fork where the filmed the show Dallas way back when.

Have caught some nice Catfish and Bass but always on bait – especially live Bluegill in the 3″ size. Was hoping the Purple Damsel Fly would get a Bass or two but as it turned out, it was a Bluegill. Switched to a number of fishing flies as well but mojo was off and kept missing strikes or hooking “tree fish”!

Did break the streak when a Bluegill went for a Near Deere, and then started “river fishing” for Bluegill by the water fountain; water current being generated did a pretty good job of simulating the current in some rivers we have fished!

Afterwards, fished the pier and caught more Bluegill. Was getting ready to call it a trip but decided to tie on the Damsel Fly Variant we use to mimic a dragon fly. As luck would have it, caught a Bass! Fun stuff!

Fishing the Trinity River with the EmmRod Fly Rod! #emmrod

Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local pond for Catfish. Very convenient to carry around or keep in the little pickup truck. Ordered the Fly Rod, arrived yesterday but was not able to fish it till today. Had to make a run to Fort Worth, so brought the EmmRod Fly Rod and several Near Deere fishing flies just in case we had a chance at fishing today. Was able to fish with it on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Water was high with lots of flow from recent rains. Did manage to catch a few Longear Perch and Sunfish! Looks like the fly rod will be made readily available for more side trips while on the commute home from the day job!

Like in past seasons, yours truly modified the schedule posted by TPWD to sort by Stocking Date and the count of trout stockings planned for a location and its estimated trout to be stocked. Makes for ease of reference by allowing Readers to quickly see when the next trout stocking is planned. As changes are unexpected for various reasons like weather, do check for updates, changes, and corrections at TPWD’s website – 2021-2022 TPWD Trout Stocking Schedule . Note: Dates for trout stockings at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFCC) in Athens show 12/1/21, 1/1/22, and 2/2/22. More Kayak Fishing at Texoma... #kayakfishing

Cooler temps this morning but did make the run to Texoma and put in a Spillway Ramp. Had one school pass and was able to catch one Striper. Later, worked a school of shad and was able to catch a Gaspergou. All was quiet, trolling, jigging, and sight casting but no more schools breaking the surface like the other two trips. However, did get one more Striper while casting to point. Still working on the video; will get it out in the next few days. Turtles Skilled at Stealing Your Bait! #waterwolfcamera #waterwolf

Fished the North Pond at Celebration this evening. Brought bread for bait and the Water Wolf Camera to capture the underwater action. Got a number of video clips; still putting the video together. But, did want to get this clip out… it shows one turtle skillfully stealing our bait without getting itself hooked! Thought it was a fluke but, we saw several other turtles make the same move… position the baited hook in their mouth so the hook pulls free when they pull the line with their front leg. Ended up striking out; had one Catfish on the line but our light wire hook was not enough to hold the Catfish.  Luckily we did get it on video. Will get it posted later… likely next week. Trying to hit Texoma tomorrow!

Kayak Jug Fishing... DIY Marker Buoy Jug Lines! #juglining #jugfishing

Finally got it done but it’s done! Posted the article on how we made the kayak jug fishing lines and why we are switching to them. We still have our other jug lines, but for jug fishing in a kayak, these are much easier to deploy in the limited space of the kayak. Also, we like how they can be dropped in the water and left to set itself, while we move on to set the next jug line! Using the Jugger Jug Line design by Top Brass and combining it with the function of a Marker Buoy, we were able to make the Do-It-Yourself Marker Buoy Jug Lines using readily available material at our local stores. Plus with the relaxation of the white colored jug lines in Texas, any color but orange works but we are leaning toward pink/magenta… much easier to see compared to white especially when the wind is kicking up! Do check it out, and do give it a try at making your own for kayak fishing!

Had planned to fish Towne Lake in Mckinney but the stocking was postponed due to weather. Things cleared up and made the run to Frisco Commons and fished for trout. Like in years past, something was hatching. Managed to land four and miss several others using a Griffith’s Gnat and a PMC Emerger. See how to tie one at  PMC Emerger

Latest on the White Bass run on Somerville… commander1967: Re: Lake Somerville Newman's open for the HIKE in......I do believe creek walking is done for the year. But I am going to hit it ONE more time before ready'ing the boat. my son, wife and I are going to do the walk one last time. Hopefully find a few stragglers through out the creek. Happy New Years... Three Trout to Close Out 2016! #flyfishing

Happy New Years! What better way to end the last day of the year then going fishing! Took a little time but did get three trout to stay on the hook at Bethany Lakes this morning. Two went for a PMC Emerger, and one went for a Griffith’s Gnat. Lost the last PMC Emerger to a snag; will have to tie more to refill the fly box. Looking forward to more fun fishing in 2017!
