Had an opportunity to get a round of fishing in at Bethany Lakes this evening. Went with the Four Weight Fly Rod/Reel and only one fishing fly – the COAF Guadalupana.
Two Bluegill went for the fishing fly followed by two fingerling Bass. Later, a Sunfish in the Canal took the fishing fly. Then, the remainder were Bass – two from the Lower Pond and five from the Main pond.
Total count this round – two Bluegill, one Sunfish, nine Bass, and a Happy Fisherman! Still no Bruisers; still lots of fun.
Report from Somerville! J-Moe: Re: Lake Somerville Lake level receded to 248 ft. 10 ft above normal and releasing 2167 cfs. It's raining again today. Hopefully, it won't get to heavy. The Brazos and the Yegua water shed are both taking on water though. I noticed the water below the dam had risen about 6 inches to a foot so the Brazos is still taking on some water from the previous rains. I went out to the lakeside of the dam last week to see if there were any white bass surfacing. Just before dark there were a bunch surfacing but they were all small. I suspect they were the crop from the spawn earlier this year. Looks like we had another good spawn as there were lots of them surfacing. I sure hope we get some good rains before December as the lake is over a foot low and I suspect the COE will have to flow some more water this summer. Another great report from Texoma!! texoma1231: Fly fishing Lake Texoma July 5th Put in at Eisenhower State Part this morning at 6:00am. Just missed the rain. Actually it sprinkled some as we were putting the boat in the water. We were using 8wt fly rods today in hopes of some larger stripers. Our first fish came just at the west corner of the cove at Eisenhower and it was a nice 2 1/2 lb small mouth. Followed by the same size large mouth. It was not long until we spotted some fish on the surface just out from the marina. We could tell that the fish were not large but it was the first top water action since fishing in Little Mineral trip a few days ago. We never got out of sight on Eisenhower and caught stripers and sand bass on top water most of the morning. We did catch some on clousers also. Last Friday, I waded up the Grace Burn, which runs through Healesville and caught/released a nice wild brown trout on a Berkley 1″ Nymph fished on an ultra light spin outfit. Never used the Nymphs before and was very impressed with their fish attracting qualities. On the retrieve before I hooked this trout I saw a boil near the lure and then hooked the trout on the next cast. I may even try these Nymphs on the fly rod. Later that morning I’d arranged with the local water watch group to collect bug samples in the Grace Burn. Pond is in Fairview on Fairview Parkway.] Started Sunday morning with a swing and miss at the “Pond Behind In-N-Out Burger”. Tried the usual spots without a strike, but did see a nice Bass along the bank… that is, did spook a nice Bass! Windy and cold but not ready to call it a morning, decided to move to another spot just down the road… it’s the pond along Angel Parkway. Forgot its name; calling Angel Parkway Pond for ease of reference. Windy and cold still, did not plan to fish for long. But, then got a bite on the PMOT… turned out to be a nice Bluegill! Stuck it out for longer, even after losing the PMOT… snapped it off while casting. Switched to a Muddler Minnow, hoping for a repeat like yesterday where a Bass took it as it was “sputtering” just under the water’s surface. No luck! Sunset at Celebration Park The weekend is here and a quick glance at the current temperatures shows a chilly 45 degrees Fahrenheit. No solid plans for fishing yet as the Team has non-fishing things to take care of before wetting a line can happen. No worries though as we will have a fly rod ready to go if the chance to fish does come up! We do note the Trout Fishing Derby at Oklahoma’s Blue River starts today. Hope to see a few Bruisers show on the Leader Board. Each year the Trout Stocking gets a supplemental stocking of some nice size Rainbow Trout to make things interesting! Good report on Lake Lavon! " I went out yesterday around 6:45. It was cloudy and looked like it could either storm or clear up. I started at the east side of the damn, and the wind laid down and it was nice weatrher. First cast, good little 14 inch bass. I kept working the damn and got a bite every other cast. 2 or 3 cranks from the rocks, it was a Largemouth bass. If I got 10 - 15 feet away from the rocks, it was usually a crappie (big crappie, 14-15"). I went to look for the Sandies to have a little fun, but couldn't find them biting. So, I went back to the west end of the damn by the water release. First cast, I thought I was hung up in the rocks. It was a very soft bite. then the line started slowly moving away from me. It was the biggest Largemouth I have ever caught. It was 22 1/2". I thought it might be 10 pounds, but from the conversion charts, it was probably 7-8 pounds.
