Had an opportunity to get a round of fishing in at Bethany Lakes this evening. Went with the Four Weight Fly Rod/Reel and only one fishing fly – the COAF Guadalupana.
Two Bluegill went for the fishing fly followed by two fingerling Bass. Later, a Sunfish in the Canal took the fishing fly. Then, the remainder were Bass – two from the Lower Pond and five from the Main pond.
Total count this round – two Bluegill, one Sunfish, nine Bass, and a Happy Fisherman! Still no Bruisers; still lots of fun.

Here are a few pics of the ones I caught yesterday evening. Not very big but fun to catch on light line. Try some of those tiny flukes on 1/32 ounce jig head under a bobber about 4ft or so. While surfing the net, checked out Texas Fishing Forum’s fly fishing thread. Noted a question that got our attention. “How do I know if a cut off to much of my fly line……..? I’m a newbie and I’m wondering if I cut off to much. I am also looking for some lessons. I want to fish for trout in the future so I want to be able to lay the line down on the water softly. Thanks in advance” This video provides our suggestions and fits our Team’s goal… “Learn to fish by our trials and errors” which we have made lots of errors over the years. Short answer to the question… “Don’t cut your fly line… Please!”
Quick trip to Kroger Park this evening. Tied a Green Foam Grasshopper, grabbed the 5wt Fly Rod, and headed to the pond for a go at the fish. Number of hits from Bluegill, some Bass as well. Did lose a number to short strikes and thrown hooks. No worries… caught a number of them. It was actually a lot slower than I thought it would be.. Didn't see any hybrids caught or crappie but I'm sure they are in there somewhere.. I was only able to stay for hour or so.. Kayak fishing Lake Lavon Saturday morning. Slow bite but did catch four fish using the bottom bouncing technique. Did keep two fish for a catch and cook video!
Great info on Texoma!! texoma1231: Fly Fishing Texoma August 15 & 16th I fly fished lake Texoma the past two day and had a great time and caught plenty of fish. This past Tuesday I put in at Eisenhower State Park and was on the water by 6:30am. Headed west out of Eisenhower along the rocks and the sand bass and stripers were schooling on top in some of the largest schools that I have seen in a long time. The Sand bass were of good size but the stripers were of the smaller variety. We were using 6wt rods with floating line and charetruse/white clousers. Sometimes you would find larger sand bass and stripers mixed in with the average size. We caught fish all morning long and were off of the water at 11:00am. If you want to have a great time catching tons of fish, now is the time to go. Wednesday was an exact repeat of Tuesday!!!!! Tight Lines ...

I know it's early for this to happen but we had some crazy warm weather and the females have been spawning during the night and early in the mornings. I have had several anglers tell me that they were spawning everywhere in the mornings and I don't get there early enough to see it first hand, but sounds like it was really going on strong. Once those egg sacks are depleted those females have no reason to stay in this creek, it's time to turn around and get back to the lake and chase shad. Report from RC this past weekend. LakeForkGroupie: Re: Rowlett Creek 2016 Fishing was slow Sat morning. I had muddy water. I fished down by 66 bridge and noticed cars were coming and going, after hitting several spots, using several lures and colors, I found out why.. no fish. I left about the same time as others, they also blanked. Decided to head up to Firewheel and use the 4X4 truck in the mud. Finally found a few fish in the first pocket up the bridge, couldn't find them anywhere else. Ended up catching 12 small ones on tiny flukes dragged on the bottom. I have noticed the flood waters have moved around some underwater brush piles as I lost a lot of lures in new places. Also saw about 20 snakes. All water snakes.
