Fishing updates and related activities from the Team!

Had a little ouch that has me slightly out of commission. Should be good to go in a couple of weeks or so. Till then, do check back on our YouTube Channel – COAF Field Team, and this website as we can always talk fishing!

In the near future, will go back to working on the DIY Fish Bites Gummy Gum recipe, using the GoFish Cam to get underwater action shots, and the Tenkara rod to catch a fish or two!

Also, will keep posting TBT YouTube Shorts to remind us that Trout Stocking Season is just around the corner as well as general fishing tips and suggestions that I find while in my rehabilitation period!

The big schools of females have made their push up most creeks last week and the week before, and with this rain a lot of hybrids will show up as well. Before I got there Keith was already at 103 Magnum Sandies. Took me less than 45 minutes to put 25 fat female mags on the stringer. The tent caterpillars are out now. Fun with Spreadsheets | Texas Parks and Wildlife Winter Trout Stocking Schedule for 2021-2022

Oops, I did it again… another Winter trout stocking season is soon to be here. Like in past seasons, yours truly modified the schedule posted by TPWD to sort by Stocking Date and the count of trout stockings planned for a location and its estimated trout to be stocked. Makes for ease of reference by allowing Readers to quickly see when the next trout stocking is planned. As changes are unexpected for various reasons like weather, do check for updates, changes, and corrections at TPWD’s website – 2021-2022 TPWD Trout Stocking Schedule . Note: Dates for trout stockings at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFCC) in Athens show 12/1/21, 1/1/22, and 2/2/22. These are placeholders as TPWD’s schedule indicates various stockings instead of a specific date. Before planning a trip do contact Athens TFCC – contact page. Mardis Gras Near Deere Keeps Working

More fun catching Bass on the fly with the Mardis Gras Near Deere. Caught ten this time in just under an hour. But, had to call it quits early to go on a pizza run for dinner. No worries… still beats working! Playing the next few days by ear; will see what the change in weather brings. Pattern that worked for us yesterday and today was a fishing fly that simulated a small bait fish 1-1/2 to 2″ in length. If not fly fishing, would go with a small Road Runner of Crappie Jig on a steady retrieve using Ultralight Spinning Gear.

Fishing the Trinity River with the EmmRod Fly Rod! #emmrod

Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local pond for Catfish. Very convenient to carry around or keep in the little pickup truck. Ordered the Fly Rod, arrived yesterday but was not able to fish it till today. Had to make a run to Fort Worth, so brought the EmmRod Fly Rod and several Near Deere fishing flies just in case we had a chance at fishing today. Was able to fish with it on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Water was high with lots of flow from recent rains. Did manage to catch a few Longear Perch and Sunfish! Looks like the fly rod will be made readily available for more side trips while on the commute home from the day job!

Kayak Fishing : Texoma

Good to know!     hurricanecraig: Texoma Fished Texoma this morning from 6:30 until about noon. Water was 61 degrees. We launched at Eisenhower state park. I was trying to catch black bass but caught crappie and striper before I caught my first ever smallmouth before leaving. It was tiny. Celebration Park East Pond...

Fished Celebration Park East Pond yesterday using bread for bait and the Daiwa Sealine Surf Casting Rod and Penn Squall 15 Reel. Made a change in how we normally fish bread; instead of forming a bread ball around a J Hook, wrapped the bread in cheese cloth and then secured it to a Circle Hook. Had a number of strikes but no hook ups until we removed the weight we were using and free-lined the bait. Good thing the surf casting rod/reel combo had no issues casting a weightless baited hook! Soon after started getting strikes and hook ups. Unfortunately, it was well past dark, so we were unable to get a video of the action and the cell phone battery was low so no pictures either. One Catfish was a Bruiser; the other Catfish went about 17″ in length. Decided to go back tonight and see if we could get another Catfish before it got too dark for filming. Another Quick Trip... Trout Fishing Towne Lake in McKinney

Really nice day! Still have video to edit but did limit out at Towne Lake in McKinney; caught but released five Rainbow Trout that went for an Olive Near Deere using the same setup as we used yesterday at Murphy – Corqs Strike Indicator and a Near Deere set 3 feet below it. Dead drift worked as well as a few short pull retrieves. Short on time but still a fun time… plus Charlie the Maltese Puppy got to see his first… hopefully many more to come, Rainbow Trout! Video still in the works; will post on our YouTube Channel when done. But, for tonight, we are chillin and grillin steaks and winding down this weekend!

Latest on the White Bass run on Somerville… commander1967: Re: Lake Somerville Newman's open for the HIKE in......I do believe creek walking is done for the year. But I am going to hit it ONE more time before ready'ing the boat. my son, wife and I are going to do the walk one last time. Hopefully find a few stragglers through out the creek. Fishing at Cottonwood Creek Trail Pond! #coaffieldteam

Fished the pond by Allen Cinemark Theater… officially called Cottonwood Creek Trail Pond, but Allen Theater Pond sounds better! Fished Tuesday using a 7-1/2′ 4wt fly rod and 4wt fly line and a Foam Grasshopper and caught Bass and Bluegill. Traditional fly line required false casting to get the fishing fly past the vegetation that clobbered the shallows along the bank. Action was steady but had to leave them biting and call the trip short. Interested in how the Rio Trout Max shooting head and one-handed spey casting would do, came back Saturday and enjoyed more fishing on the fly for Bluegill and Sunfish. No Bass but still lots of fun, especially spending less time casting/false casting and more time fishing and catching!
