Pond Fishing at Kroger Park with the TFO 6wt for Bass!

Fished Kroger Park in Allen, TX Sunday, March 31, 2019. Struck out but did have a few strike fishing flies; just could not connect. Came back Tuesday, Arpil 2, 2019. Managed to catch a Bass on a Foam Grasshopper; shortly after lost the fishing fly to a snag.

After trying different patterns, settled on a Damsel Fly Variant that kinda looks like a Dragonfly. Soon after caught two Bass and a Bluegill before calling it a trip as it got dark.

Fun times… liking the 6wt TFO Fly Rod with the Echo Ion Fly Reel and OPST Commando Head!

Over-Lining Our Fly Rods

Not sure when we started doing this, but we tend to over-line (go up one line weight) on our 4-Wt and 5-Wt fly rods. I think we did this by accident when we used whatever fly line we had at the time we picked up a new fly reel. So far, have been good with the casting results by going up a weight. That said, was not aware of a debate about this, until I saw an article online by Field and Stream – “ Is Over-Lining Fly Rods Good or Bad? ” For the most part, would agree with Field and Stream that there are no set rules. Would go on to say, “whatever works best for you”!

Sincerely, The Field Team For the first question, “What kind of spinning gear are you using (rod length & power, reel size & make)?”, the spinning gear we use are: A 4′-8″ Ugly Stik Ultralight Rod with a Shakespeare 20 Ultralight Spinning Reel (USP225A) 6′-6″ Berkley Medium Light Lightning Rod with a Pinnacle Tiny Deadbolt Spinning Reel(DUL20). Lately, when using fluorocarbon, we have switched the reels between the two rods, and mainly been using the Berkley Medium Light Lightning Rod and the Shakespeare Spinning Reel. Update: We just called Turner Falls Park. They are not stocking 21 November. They have the order in and hope to be ready next weekend – 28 November. Just in case before you go, call the Park at 580-369-2988 for the latest update! Mark your calendars! Looks like Turner Falls gets its Trout Stocking Saturday, 21 November. Last year was the first time the Team fished Turner Falls. Had a great time! Brockdale Park Again This Evening

Fished the point at Brockdale Park this evening. Last time we caught one White Bass. This time we doubled our catch and caught two White Bass. Used the same rig as last time – a Float and Jig Rig with a Purple Marabou Crappie Jig for the jig. Casted for a while and then finally started seeing surface activity as a school of White Bass passed by. Good thing the Daiwa Sealine Surf Casting Rod and Penn Squall 15 Reel was able to cast for distance as some schools were past the 100+ yard mark. Was doing good with minimal backlash, and then had three in a row. After a quick check of the reel, noticed the Launcher Float lost its lead weight, explaining the backlashes. Made an adjustment to the magnetic brake; no more backlashes. Overall, was a slow day but had lots of fun sight casting to passing schools even though it lasted about 30″. No worries… still lots of fun! Surf Casting Without the Surf!
