Murphy City Hall Pond This Round

Made it to Murphy City Hall Pond today. Arrived just as the Trout Derby was winding down. Looked like a lot of folks hooked up with the Rainbow Trout.

Gave it a try starting out with a Tandem Rig – Olive/White Near Deere and a GRHEN. After a few missed strikes, found my “mojo” and began hooking up consistently.

Even did some catch and release with strikes on a Tandem Rig – Olive Near Deere and Soft Hackle, Olive Near Deere, BH GRHEN, and an Olive/Brown Near Deere.

Overall, the Trout seemed to be striking at everything thrown at them. But, would say the Olive/Brown Near Deere seemed to get the most bites this time.

Fun stuff… even broke out the Micro Fly Rod and caught a few with it. Plus, caught a Golden Trout that went for a Near Deere!

Red/White Tenkara Fly Did Well!

Liked the Olive/White Tenkara Fly; decided to try Red for the body and White for the Wing… end result is another simple but effective fishing fly pattern. Tested the pattern at Bethany Lakes this evening. Really windy day but did get enough casts to catch 12 fish this round  – two Bass and ten Bluegill! May need to tie more of these guys!

Fun Times... "What comes first...?" #flytying

Fun times… looks like the Elk Hair Caddis that we tied the other day has resulted in controversy – specifically, should the wire rib used be tied over the hackle or should it be tied under it over the dubbed body and then follow with the hackle? Since its up to the fish… going to tie them both ways, and see what happens.  Suspect the rib tied over the hackle will be more durable then tying it over the body, will see what happens.  More a matter of preference; have had the last Ellk Hair Caddis last a season without an issue. Nevertheless, going to tie two Elk Hair Caddis using both patterns; let’s have some fun and use it as an excuse to go fishing! LOL!

Happy "Non-Labor Day"

Enjoyed a morning walk on a “Non-Labor Day”… like to use this term for today since we are not working today. While on the walk, checked out a pond and its feeder creek for any fish. Did not see any fish in the pond but noticed a number of Bluegill and Bass lurking in the feeder creek. No fishing this round; did get a couple of videos and posted them below!   On a walk today. Here is simple, quick tie pattern that works well for trout…Simple Mop Fly!  We have used the pattern in various combinations of dubbing – white, pearl, pink, and orange. Micro Fly Rod Fishing at Kroger Pond

Micro Fly Rod Fishing at Kroger Pond this evening. Bite was good on little Bass and Bluegill. Foam Grasshopper in Size 16 worked well, but ended up losing the fishing fly to a “Tree Fish”! Switched to a Tenkara Fly and was able to continue to hook up with the little Bass and Bluegill.
