Feeder Creek Looks Good!

 Been some time since we fished the Feeder Creek. Checked it out yesterday, and overall the creek is looking good.

Saw some nice looking Bass lurking in the area. Bluegill and Sunfish were also roaming about.

Went with the Foam Grasshopper and caught a number of Bluegill and Sunfish. Did get several Bass to look at our fishing fly, but all opted to move on instead of strike.

Lots of brush made it tough on casting, good thing we practiced roll casting last year. Came in handy this round!

Over-Lining Our Fly Rods

Not sure when we started doing this, but we tend to over-line (go up one line weight) on our 4-Wt and 5-Wt fly rods. I think we did this by accident when we used whatever fly line we had at the time we picked up a new fly reel. So far, have been good with the casting results by going up a weight. That said, was not aware of a debate about this, until I saw an article online by Field and Stream – “ Is Over-Lining Fly Rods Good or Bad? ” For the most part, would agree with Field and Stream that there are no set rules. Would go on to say, “whatever works best for you”!

Update: We just called Turner Falls Park. They are not stocking 21 November. They have the order in and hope to be ready next weekend – 28 November. Just in case before you go, call the Park at 580-369-2988 for the latest update! Mark your calendars! Looks like Turner Falls gets its Trout Stocking Saturday, 21 November. Last year was the first time the Team fished Turner Falls. Had a great time! Pond Fly Fishing Suggestions from an Average Joe... 😎

Back to the local pond for a quick trip fly fishing for Bass and Bluegill using the Martin Fly Fishing Kit. This round I am fishing Betts Hand Tied Poppers and continue using the OPST Commando Head for a shooting head added to the 5wt Level Fly Line that came with the kit. Short trip but still lots of fun catching a fish or two.

Beavers Bend Report from TFF...

Fished below where to upper foot bridge used to be, down to a place we called the Christmas Pool ( that was a long time ago and I don't think it's called that anymore- certainly not after the flood). The river is just littered with fish. There are a lot of fast, shallow runs now that I like to fish with a wooly bugger. I like to skip it on or just below the surface in the fast water and watch the trout smash the fly. You miss a lot more than you catch but it's fun to just watch the strike. I landed twenty and probably missed three or four times that many. Tpwd biologist said it was probably lack of oxygenated water from the slow release and the river turning over. I guess it's good and bad.
