Guadalupana at Bethany This Round

Image
Had an opportunity to get a round of fishing in at Bethany Lakes this evening. Went with the Four Weight Fly Rod/Reel and only one fishing fly – the COAF Guadalupana . Two Bluegill went for the fishing fly followed by two fingerling Bass. Later, a Sunfish in the Canal took the fishing fly. Then, the remainder were Bass – two from the Lower Pond and five from the Main pond. Total count this round – two Bluegill, one Sunfish, nine Bass, and a Happy Fisherman! Still no Bruisers; still lots of fun. Bream Getter Cabela's Fiberglass CGR Fly Rod Rooster Tail Inline Spinners Mepps Trout Kit

Action was slow but steady with several Sunfish caught using a COAF Griffith’s Gnat , and then one Bass on a Near Deere , and six Bass that went for a COAF Damsel Fly . No Bruisers but still good to get out on a nice Sunday morning! No Bruisers… largest one today!

Micro Fishing at Bethany

Image
Made it to the local pond and fished Tenkara style with a Kiyotaki 18 Rod; caught little Sunfish and Bluegill as well as two Bass! Used a GRHEN, a Black Midge, and then a Guadalupana. Tried more aerial video with the drone; not much… need to practice more and get extra batteries! Still lots of fun! Update from Australia....

Image
Work schedule remains crazy right now but still making time to get the latest update from others in the field. One update in particular comes from Steve in Australia. Here is the latest update courtesy of Steve… Great report and pictures. Keep them coming! Last Friday, I waded up the Grace Burn, which runs through Healesville and caught/released a nice wild brown trout on a Berkley 1″ Nymph fished on an ultra light spin outfit. Never used the Nymphs before and was very impressed with their fish attracting qualities. On the retrieve before I hooked this trout I saw a boil near the lure and then hooked the trout on the next cast. I may even try these Nymphs on the fly rod. Later that morning I’d arranged with the local water watch group to collect bug samples in the Grace Burn. We spent a couple of hours collecting and counting bugs and I’m pleased to say that the Burn scored very well as a healthy creek, which didn’t really surprise me. There were plenty of stoneflies, hellgrammites. aq

Still Here... TBF for Now

Image
Hi Readers, Has been a tough week posting with more weeks ahead that will delay our fishing trips. Hope to get a quick trip in here and there. But for now, here is a “Throw Back Friday” picture from a Bass caught at Bethany Lakes’ Lower Pond before it was dredged out two years (maybe three years) ago.

Underwater Video... One Catfish

Image
Decided to try getting an underwater video of a Catfish taking our bait yesterday. Headed to Bethany Lakes, rigged up the GoPro for the shot, baited a hook with Bread, and set the rig out. Shortly after setting the rig in the water, had Bluegill in view despite the murky conditions. Soon after, they (or maybe something bigger) took the bait. Re-baited and had more Bluegill pecking at the bread but in the murkiness did see a Catfish come by several times and eventually it took the bait. Reeled in a skinny 17″-18″ Catfish! Later, lost a bigger one that broke the hook; was not able to get the underwater shot of it though. Oh well… Fun stuff still!

Only One at Brockdale This Round

Image
Late start of the three day weekend. Had to tie up some loose ends before starting the Labor Day Weekend. Did make it to Brockdale this round. Used a Switch Rod and a Crappie Jig and caught nothing after an hour. Then as is got dark, had a little White Bass strike. Fun stuff…! Only one just as it got dark!

Latest Report from Australia!

Image
Latest from Steve in Australia has rain in the forecast but Opening Day is just around the corner! Steve reports… Went up to Marysville again last Sunday, this time to fish a new lake I’d been told about. This small lake is on the edge of a huge government pine plantation and cannot be seen from the road because of the trees. A lovely spot. I fished an OZ Dragonfly Nymph on a spinning rod with a Crystal Cast float. This let me cast a decent distance and cut through the wind which was awkward at times. I hooked and released only the one fish but it was a beautiful wild brown trout.  At first I thought I’d snagged the fly on some underwater vegetation but then the”snag” moved. It’s always a buzz to catch wild fish. I saw other fish rising. I’ll definitely go back to this spot again soon.  Another thing of interest were the fresh deer tracks that were on the track around the lake. I very occasionally see sambar deer when I’m driving home from Marysville at night. Great report, great pictu

Frisco Commons On a Sunday Morning

Image
Change of pace… went up the road to Frisco and fished the Frisco Commons Pond. It’s the same pond that is stocked with Rainbow Trout during the Winter Trout Stocking Season. Have caught little Bass and Bluegill/Sunfish while fishing for Rainbow Trout in the Winter. Decided to see what was biting during the Summer. Started fishing around 8AM and kept at it till about 11AM-Noon. Water was clear, and we could see fish lurking in the “greenery” that was growing near the banks. Used a COAF Griffith’s Gnat, Near Deere, GRHEN, and Prince Nymph to catch Bass and Bleugill/Sunfish. No Bruisers but did see several nice size looking Bass swimming in the area as well as a few Tilapia! Heard there was Tilapia stocked in the pond during the warmer months so it made sense when we saw them! Had a fun time on nice Sunday morning!
